HD camaras have really been influential on improving spin rates but pitchers elbows cant handle the torque. The only solution I see is to go back to pre HD analysis of spin and grip. Not sure when or if MLB clubs will do this.

Cat's already out of the bag there.  If the tech exists to get an edge, teams will use it.

  2. I've been without cable for almost a decade now.

In 2014 I did MLB.TV with a VPN.  I haven't felt compelled to do that since, and mainly just catch the games on the radio.

VPN is likely the best way to do it these days.

It still stinks that they don't air a weekly game on local TV like they did up until 2018.

Can’t wait. I remember how electric OPACY was in 2014 against the Tigers, and that was just watching on TV. Can’t even imagine what it was like actually being there. There’s nothing like playoff baseball at Oriole Park, it’s just a shame there have been so few instances of it.

I was at game 1 in 2012. My first playoff game.  Back then, we could get SRO for $30ish bucks.  It was an absolutely electric atmosphere, despite the loss.  Baltimore sports fans show up BIG TIME for the playoffs, and it's like a college football atmosphere.

    Right player, right price.

But is he still the right player?  Depending on what else we do, if he comes cheaply, I would consider it but he’s not at or near the top of my list.

I hope he gets a job back in the majors though and I hope that POS that drug his name through the coals goes to prison.  It’s the least they should do to her.

At least he's continued pitching overseas, and hasn't been totally out of baseball.

If the price is right, the Orioles should make an offer.  Bauer is an incredible talent, and an ace pitcher would really reinforce the rotation going into this window of competition.

Bauer was smart to sue her and get access to this evidence in the discovery process.  It's unfortunate that he was unable to make that happen 2 years ago before this thing got blown up by the media.  That girl needs to be prosecuted.

How do you post a pic here?

    Upload a downloaded picture.

Not sure if the HTML code will allow for image embedding.  Guess I'll try:

    Edit: apparently not.

But, you can just post the image link:

  6. Option 2.

Mussina was one of the best pitchers of the steroid-era, and the best Oriole's pitcher not named Jim Palmer.

He had more bWAR as an Oriole than a Yankee.

Other HOF players who split between other teams have their numbers retired by multiple organizations.  Frank Robinson, Nolan Ryan, Greg Maddux to name a few.

I think the O's should retire it, but continue to let Adley wear it as long as he's an Oriole (similar to Mariano Rivera wearing 42 after it was retired throughout baseball).  If Adley puts up a HOF career, then two #35's can be hanging over the left field seats.

But, it's ultimately the O's decision, and it doesn't matter to me if they decide to not retire it.

It seems there are never any parking passes available for any game. What gives?

Lots of people driving in, not enough parking.  It wasn't like this when the Orioles sucked, but it's been the case this year.

Elias has been exactly the same as any other Oriole GM in the last 25 years thus far in his tenure in the specific arena of trades .. small and non risk taking and unimaginative and always mostly dictated by the economics of Angelos et al.

I have patiently waited, supporting and understanding the rebuild process and have been beyond happy with this season to date.. but if he does not go bolder this month, no matter the rationale.. I will not be supportive of that decision

    MacPhail made some great trades.

Elias spoke for an entire inning about everything going on in the organization.  Couple big take aways I had, feel free to add on.

    - really impressed with what Jackson Holiday is doing, performing above expectations

    - Westburg sounds like the next man up, mentioned ability to play 3 spots on the infield and corner outfield (see ya Vavra)

    - DL Hall pitching much better this year, going to dial back innings while they focus on building strength in the weight room to ramp up velo

    - called out the good start from Basallo and Willems(sp) catchers in A ball

    - said Mateo is best defensive SS in the system but Ortiz not far behind him

Really unfortunate about Vavra.  Dude has a great batting eye, but absolutely no pop.

I won't be surprised if next year's offseason will end up like the disaster that this offseason was, even though it shouldn't be.

The Orioles are going to be in the difficult spot of defending the World Series title. It will be interesting to see what moves they make to try for a repeat.

This place is going to melt down when he hits his innings limit for the year, they shut him down while he’s in a ROY race and we’re in a playoff race.

He’s going to get 115-130 innings this year, it seems those are the estimates. Whether or not those innings are more valuable in the beginning, middle or the end of the year is anyone’s guess.

This is why I could see them keeping him down for a few months. Service time + innings control.

Here's a hypothetical for you.   You're the assistant GM.   You know your team is cheating with the video/garbage lid system.   You don't think it's right.   The players and manager are ok with it and the GM is ok with it.   Do you keep your mouth shut or be the guy who turns your own team in?

    We're looking for honesty here!

I'd keep my head down and have my resume ready for a job elsewhere. Perhaps in Baltimore, Maryland.

Agreed.  While I don't like hearing about the cheating on his spouse, Elias has given me every reason to like him as a baseball fan.  And that is what I care about.

I met Allie before I met Mike. There didn't seem to be any smoke there, let alone fire.

  14. Every encounter I've had with Mike Elias and his wife have been great.  Really nice, respectful people.

Granted, people can be different than they present, but the allegations of personal misconduct would be quite shocking to me.

Regardless: things like politics and personal life are just noise.

I care about the Orioles and their progress on the field, and I've been very impressed with the turnaround the franchise has had thus far under Mike Elias.  By that metric, I don't think his job is in jeopardy.
