I would be in favor of taking a splash and signing Correa. Don't think it's going to happen.  You add Correa and Rutschman to the team and the O's might actually be competitive in 2022.

2023 would be a very interesting year. 2022 will still involve some growing pains for the young core coming up. The games would be much more fun to watch, that's for sure.

I find all of this quite fascinating from a standpoint of following the minor leagues for so long. The Orioles are clearly trying something new by bringing in so many coaches and managers who never played or coached professionally.

It's really interesting to see how all of this works out. Mercado seems like a really hard working guy who loves baseball and has obviously impressed a lot of people who have met him. I'm very interested in meeting him and all these new young coaches this year. Hopefully with COVID lightening up it will be easier to get down to the affiliates this year and talk with them.

Probably fresh people who aren't set in their ways, that can be crafted to execute the development plan from the top.  No egos, no resistance.

From the article:  "The Mid-Atlantic Sports Network will continue to serve as the club’s exclusive home to all television game broadcasts."

Just to reassure people that all none of the "Orioles content" that WBALTV airs will include actual games.  MASN monopoly.......still intact, sigh.

It wasn't too many years ago that the Orioles would air 1 game per week on local OTA TV.

I wish they would go back to this.  I'd love to be able to watch a handful of games per year.

With the on again, off again rumor that John Angelos might move the team to Nashville, I came up with an interesting idea. Don't know if this has been floated around the hangout yet because I haven't been active much in the last 7 or so years. It's not an original idea because it has happened to this fan base before with our former NFL team, but that situation work out in the worst possible way. If the younger Angelos' game plan is to ultimately move the team, why not do a franchise ownership swap with another owner who is looking to get out of his situation. Rays owner Sternberg, as we know, has had it with the poor stadium situation in St. Pete. With their dismal attendance, they still manage to put a competitive product on the field with a low budget. You'd think that Sternberg would love the prospect of owning a team with a much better ballpark, and fans who would show up knowing there would be a competitive team on the field, and the Angelos' no where near it. Then John can take the Rays to Nashville. Just my 2 cents.

I'd take a Sternberg Orioles ownership in a second. Sternberg O's would be the beast of the east.

I'm moving from them anyways. Moving the message board to an IPS run server so they will do all the upgrades and then I'm looking for a new server for just the Wordpress site and images. Just looking for a cheap option since the wordpress site doesn't draw much resources and traffic is much lower than the message board.

Wordpress is great because it's platform-agnostic, and can be run on very low overhead.

Oracle has a free tier. Maybe go that route?

  6. All of OVH's network is DDOS protected. I've always liked working with them.

Their mitigation is really good. My server was DDOSed multiple times, and it went into automatic mitigation without losing any uptime.  Lost a little bandwidth while they distributed the attack across their network, but I never got null-routed or anything like that.

  7. I'd be all about Greinke at $15mil plus an option.

O's aren't going to contend this year, but having a veteran who can pitch decently and eat innings is valuable, especially if more young pitchers get promoted this year.

Greinke is probably going to latch on with a team in contention, or expecting to contend at the back-end of their rotation, so it's a moot point.

Baltimore had a very good independent minor league team, also called the Orioles, for many years before the Browns moved to Charm City.   I have the impression not many Baltimoreans really had a big rooting interest in a major league team.   Don’t forget DC had the Senators before Baltimore had a team.  Some people probably rooted for them.  I think we had a thread on this a year or two ago.

They were in the international league, affiliated with the Phillies at the time. I wonder if Major League Baseball would have just promoted them as an expansion franchise if the Browns never relocated here.

Edit: I don't know if my family still has it, but my maternal grandfather had a baseball signed by the 1944 championship squad. I remember seeing it when I was younger, I just don't know if we hung onto it or donated it.

That's a good point. I guess MLB's version of that is marquee pitching matchups, Scherzer vs. Kershaw for example. But, those are pretty rare due to injuries and things not lining up with five-man rotations. When they do happen, they often don't last past the 6th inning.

Maybe I'm just romanticizing things, but I feel like MLB was better at drumming up the Petite vs. Pedro matchups of yesteryear. Now you don't really hear that type of marketing as much.

You're also talking about 20 years ago. Nearly everyone had cable TV. Not only did they do a good job of drumming it up, most people had an accessible means to watch it.

I think we're already expecting too much out of AR.  He might help a little in those areas but unless the sheer talent level of the pitching staff changes, AR isn't going to magically take what we have to some unforeseen heights.

Agreed. It's pitching talent at the end of the day. The Orioles have some good pitchers on the farm, but they're going to have to find a way to supplement that.

While the Orioles have had some poor results bringing in starting pitchers via FA in Ubaldo and Cobb, they have found guys that worked well in Chen and Gonzalez, both of whom were well worth their contracts.

It will be interesting to see the direction they take this off-season. My guess is more reclamation project pitchers ala Harvey.

now would be a good time to supplement with veteran talent outside the organization.

It might be a year too early to compete, but like you stated homegrown talent isn't going to be enough to get the Orioles over the hump. Especially playing in the AL East.

Agreed. If a good player is available that fits need, and their market price is within operational budget, the Orioles should absolutely make a competitive offer.
