  1. Man, with the Athletics, Mariners, Royals, Tigers, and Orioles (of late), the pitching this post-season is going to be intense.
  2. Imagine, if you will, the Detroit Tigers and Oakland Athletics playing the one Wild-Card play-in game for the right to go to Camden Yards. Who would each team use? Scherzer vs Lester? Price vs Kazmir?
  3. Ah well. Streak had to end sometime. Well done avoiding the sweep. Now the Orioles FINALLY get to play some below .500 teams! CHW CHC TBR (possibly) MIN CIN (possibly) TBR (possibly) BOS
  4. OK, so even without the Nationals game the Orioles have won six straight series (all 3-1 or 2-1). We definitely want to see #7 happen.
  5. Same deal with Oakland, in my opinion. I think they're slightly weaker overall after trading Cespedes.
  6. I'm looking forward to the point when they add the Magic Number to the standings.
  7. I really don't regret Toronto's Reimold signing at all. He'll tease them badly.
  8. Texas is good enough to take the series from New York
  9. Can't hit with every pick. Sadly for them Correa's hurt on top of Appel's struggles. I think there are more than 4-5 players that are keepers on this team: C - Castro 1B - Singleton 2B - Altulve 3B - Dominguez SS - Villar LF - CF - Fowler RF - Springer DH - Just looking at the lineup I think there are only two main holes. Robbie Grossman in LF is doing terrible but he wasn't bad last year; he might just need some more seasoning. Chris Carter at DH has tons of power and a terrible batting average - he can easily stick on the bench. And that's the real problem with the team right now - lack of depth. Marwin Gonzalez is an ok utility man but that's about it. And 1 or 2 pitchers, are you kidding? SP - Dallas Kuechel SP - Collin McHugh SP - Jarred Cosart SP - Scott Feldman SP - Brett Oberholtzer / Brad Peacock RP - Tony Sipp RP - Darren Downs Look at their numbers again and tell me you'd keep just one or two. Again this is about depth, particularly in the bullpen. The team is actually pitching above average right now (101 ERA+) and they have a better rotation than the Orioles. I think the better way to say it is that the Astros are 4-5 players away from being contenders.
  10. True. I think the AL West is going to dominate for several years. The future looks interesting because the team with the worst farm system in the division (Angels) is the biggest spender, although Seattle can throw some coin around too. Oakland is... Oakland, and Texas is suffering from a lull but has very good prospects in their own right. The two frontrunners for the MVP award (Trout, Donaldson) are both young and in the West. The top three players in salary (Cano, Fielder, Pujols) are in the West. It's a harsh landscape facing the Astros.
  11. Well the answer of course is they pushed a new shipment of B12 through into Canada.
  12. I am not scared at all of the MFY, they're operating on strings and duct tape. And Yangervis Solarte (?!?). They have little to offer in trade. Toronto, now that's another story. They're the team with the positive run differential. They have the pitcher going for his league leading 8th win today (Mark Buehrle), and just got a legit shutout out of another SP (Drew Hutchison). They still hit the tar out of the ball -- all they need is to plug a couple more holes in their pitching staff.
  13. To be fair, Philly has a pretty bad looking baseball team. Baltimore needs to respond in kind vs the Astros.
  14. You'd think that. The three best teams in the AL may all be in the West (Oakland, Texas, Anaheim). I know, the Tigers, but still. Throw the Mariners in there and the West looks heads and tails better than the East/Central to me.
  15. Man, a lot of recent Orioles are hot to start the season. Morse, pretty much thought he would have a good year if he moved to the NL. Which he did. K-Rod, didn't see that coming really. Guess he got used to pitching with diminished "stuff".
  16. It's not the number of injuries but which ones for Tampa -- a lot will hinge on how Alex Cobb does when he comes back. Boston's offense is predictably regressing but they've still got the best pitching in the division, statistically. Lackey so far is not taking a step back. Jon Lester and Jake Peavy are doing their thing and Clay Buchholz finally pitched a good game yesterday.
  17. I'll always have love for Mark Reynolds.
  18. Pretty telling to me, considering that the KBO supposedly doesn't like the Orioles anymore after the Kim Seong-min fiasco.
  19. I can only imagine Lombardozzi was not making the Tigers roster. Otherwise the trade makes no sense to me to this day. Lombo can play shortstop in a pinch.
  20. News and notes from people who saw action yesterday: Scott Feldman (2-1, 1.69 ERA) - got roughed up a bit by the Royals following his three prior outstanding starts. I think he'll be a tough luck pitcher with such an anemic offense behind him. LaTroy Hawkins (4 saves, 1.59 ERA) - remember LaTroy? Well, he's in his 20th season and doing well as Rockies closer so far. Nate McLouth (.087/.250/.130) - yeah, for all those pining for McLouth over Lough... at least McLouth is drawing a few walks. Michael Morse (.306/.382/.510) - the cup of coffee Oriole was a shrewd signing by the Giants this offseason. Mark Reynolds (.171/.261/.415) - hit 7th in the lineup for the Brew Crew but he's seeing plenty of time at 1B. Very... Reynolds-like numbers. Koji Uehara (3 saves, 0.00 ERA) - man it would have been nice to resign him. But nobody, not even the Sawx saw this coming.
  21. Derek Jeter (40): .295/.380/.364 Ichiro Suzuki (40): .370/.370/.407 Alfonso Soriano (38): .259/.295/.500 Carlos Beltran (37): .298/.339/.614 I cannot believe these numbers will hold up, though they could all finish reasonably close.
