I never wanted Hays there.. and thus suggested Stowers. Yet apparently Stowers is not allowed to hit for Mullins so all I’m getting from everyone is Hyde has to keep Mullins there.

Your choices are Hays, Stowers, Urias, and McCann. There's not much there. The game was lost when Cowser choked and gave Toronto the opportunity to pitch around Westburg.

Sure, if you’re fine with not giving your team the best chance of winning then by all means let Mullins hit.

Mullins isn’t proving anything right now other than he can’t hit.

Fine, go with Hays then, that better?

Is Mullins going to feel less worse if Hays pinch hits for him instead of a rookie? (Not sure if Stowers is still a rookie but you get the point.)

Hyde is going to respect the lefty/righty matchup every time. We know this. So, it was never going to be Hays. If there were one out, maybe you would see Stowers to try to hit a fly ball. But needing a hit, I don't like Stowers's chances coming in cold any better than Mullins.

  3. It's hard to complain about what Burnes has done and it's certainly not his fault the O's are 0-4 in his last four starts, but he came with a hype that's hard to live up to. So many analysts were saying "the Orioles finally have a real Game 1 starter for October!" but right now it's hard to imagine him mowing down the Phillies or whoever.

I'm fine with being patient when he's slumping like this but looking at a fastball down the middle in extra innings is pretty inexcusable.

Lotta people looking for the receipts on their cow costumes.

Eh I think it just highlights how good the pitching has been in those losses. If we lose, it's usually because we are facing someone having an extremely good pitching performance - good enough that Gunnar is shut down.

It's the opposite of when a couple of years ago ESPN, as I recall, showed a graphic about the Yankees' amazing record in games where Brett Gardner hit a home run. They were trying to make it sound like Gardner was a magic sparkplug for the team, and I couldn't believe how dumb it was even for ESPN. Come on, if the pitching is bad enough that Brett Gardner is taking them deep, then of course the rest of the team would be teeing off as well! The stat is showing how NOT important Gardner is!

The gameball doesn't go to the winner. Who had the bigger play? Santander is the only correct answer. We did nothing prior to or after his HR in regulation. We lose that game without him.

By the same logic if Westburg doesn't hit an RBI double in the second inning, Santander's home run makes it only 4-3 and the Orioles lose.

  7. With this win, the Orioles are officially .500 from 2021-2024. Yes, the 2021 team was so bad that it took a breakthrough winning season, a dream 101-win season, and ANOTHER hot month and a half to dig out of that hole. Hyde/Elias are now just 64 games under .500.
