  1. @Roy Firestone, I was just thinking of the similar number of AB of Holliday and Mays at this stage in Jackson's first four or so games. Mays did go 0-12 after that HR off of Spahn and Durocher moved him from 3rd in the lineup to 8th. So we were both on the right track. In my original post above, I remember that bit of info as I researched a paper on Mays in 3rd grade as my "most unforgettable character".
  2. Apparently we were thinking about the same thing. And @Moose Milligan, he was 0 for 12 until he got his first hit per what I saw. He broke his hitless streak vs. Warren Spahn with a HR over the roof at Polo Grounds. I was typing my Mays tidbit when you posted yours.
  3. I'm not saying Holliday will have a career like Mays, but I remember this tidbit when I wrote a theme about Willie as my "most unforgettable character" in 3rd grade. I still have the paper. I went back to check that on Wikipedia: "Mays appeared in his first major league game on May 25 against the Philadelphia Phillies at Shibe Park, batting third. He had no hits in his first 12 at bats in the major leagues, but in his 13th on May 28, he hit a home run off Warren Spahn over the left-field roof of the Polo Grounds."
  4. I feel for him and am pulling for him. That said, one of my friends, a Brewer fan just texted me and calls him ... JacKson I told him, "just wait".
  5. I have, and I am totally onboard. It moves fast.
  6. Nice to have a guy who can adjust and minimize the damage when that happens. Hopefully some of the young guys will pick up on it and add it to their bag of experience.
  7. First or second pitch, with those aces are often the most hittable you'll see. MIL proves it right out of the shoot.
  8. At sound check now. Looks like I missed the party. ie. The Brew Crew partying in our house. Glad I missed it. Last thing I saw while we were on the road was AR’s HR.
  9. They say hi from the backseat! It’s Laura’s birthday so I’m the designated driver on the late night drive home.
  10. Watching now on my iPad on way to tonight’s performance in Winston-Salem. Wife driving!
  11. I used to work with a guy 25 years ago, and he was in his early 80s then. He grew up in Pittsburgh and remembers seeing Honus coaching 3rd base for the Pirates. He called him the Bow-legged Cowboy, which I guess was his posture. He also told me he heard Babe Ruth play on the radio in that era.
  12. I think he meant in his lifetime, not yours! Ducking!
  13. I can't help but think Fatal Attraction when I see his name. I hope Franklin has better luck with his rabbit and his stove.
  14. Announcers are all about propping up the Brewers. Nice.
  15. From just the body language, it doesn't seem as if McCann was inflamed about anything. Maybe the finger was interpreted as a finger wag.
  16. McCann to Adonis. You're not the only swinging dick in town.
  17. Ortiz did get about 15 games and 33 AB game last year, so he got his jitters out, etc. and there's no huge spotlight on him. Jackson probably would love to be out of the range of the spotlight like Ortiz.
  18. I saw that, but I'm taking about the dad. The kid probably does what he wants. I think the only time I saw Matt in one was at the signing interview.
  19. Matt Holliday just won't wear an O's cap, will he? Twice in a knit cap (or toboggan where I'm from) and some Old English Script cap I can't make out tonight in that interview. Did Elias hurt his feelings that much?
  20. Ever since he played in Durham, I've been calling him that. Come to the Willy Adonis Show! Ladies Night!
  21. Write Apple and tell them you purchased it by mistake. You wanted the softball HR derby instead.
  22. Willy Adonis. Dang him and his strip club name.
