She also has the exact same cadence as Beth Mowins, which is irritating.

Currently matching the 1989 Why Not season. It's certainly possible.

He's not awful. He's not good either.

Newman is just awful and you're lying to yourself to think otherwise. Garceau is annoying, but he's not awful.

Look, he’s a solid hitter and a good clubhouse guy. Is he a star? No, but nobody said he was.
He was a great guy who handled adversity well, but his production is not going to be hard to replace.

Negative dWAR is irrelevant. An average defensive 1B or a DH has negative dWAR. That just comes with the assigned role. It’s all about how you hit.
He still has only had 2 seasons with above starting level oWAR

I think the issue is that no one from the Lopez deal looks, at first glance, as if they will eventually contribute to the ML team in a meaningful way.
Cano is undefeated right now.

Traded our highest batting avg hitter for what?
He's a 30 year old DH who has a negative dWAR and has only had two seasons where he was above starter level WAR with a career .1 WPA.

We got 6 pitchers in return for 1 and a 30 year old DH who has had a starter level WAR for only 2 seasons...and people are upset at this? I legitimately do not understand.

Liked it a lot for the return we got and never really understood the fascination with Mancini as a fan favorite other than being a homegrown guy who was the best player on a really bad team for a few years.

Why do you keep bringing up Odor? He won’t be traded because nobody wants him. He will likely finish the season, offer a little veteran leadership, and then not be brought back.
I mentioned him once in this thread, but if you seriously think this team is capable of "winning" this season, you should seek professional help.

I’m not talking about 2022.
Then we should be in good shape for the next couple of seasons. Jorge Lopez's first great first half of relief pitching not being on this roster doesn't change that.

We need to win.
This is just a hilarious take to me considering Rougned Odor is still batting 5th in this lineup. This team was never poised to be .500 in August. It was a pleasant surprise but we need to temper our expectations for this season.

Do you want depth or do you want to win?
You don't think they can use Bautista in the closer role and still win?

Lopez is 29, has no track record of ML success, and we got 4 pitchers for him. I think it's fine. It's not great. It's fine.
This is the correct take. He's had one good half-year in the majors and we got 4 pitchers to shore up depth in the minors.

3-4 years. Even though the COVID year was shorter, if you expand the numbers they were on pace for a 67 win season. Which is the current pace right now in 2021. I think they are 2 years away from borderline .500 and 3-4 until they are actually competitive. All of this is also based on the assumption that the guys who are supposed to develop, actually do develop into solid starters.

The first thing they did was put out a press release stating she was the first female PA announcer in Os history. They couldn’t wait to make a point in saying that.
So yes, I think that’s the narrative they were/are playing up to. Everyone else is, why not the Os?
I mean...she is the first female PA announcer in Orioles history. Seems like it should be something to point out. Also, I think they were looking for a reason to fire Wagner, and saw their opportunity to do it. People who have interacted with him do not have a high opinion of him. He's full of himself, and let that MLB fan cave "fame" get to his head.

You are funny. Cheap 26 year old that is tearing it up on a rebuilding team. Not likely.
Why not? This is his first year switching to a full-time lefty, and while the results are promising thus far, I think he'll slide back down to Earth shortly. The fact that this is a rebuilding team with a plethora of outfielders doesn't make this decision any harder.

I don't mind the changes other than Garceau doing play by play ending the Scott & Jeremy duo on 105.7. Replacing that with Jason La Canfora in any capacity means that I'll never listen to 105.7 again.

Something just seems different as of late with Davis. And it's not just is ball off of bat speed, or making contact and putting the ball in play. I'm not making some grand proclamation that he's back to his old form, but an even slight improvement from last year is huge considering how awful he was. Let's hope it continues.

I hope so, but if the OH is any indication, then I’m not too optimistic...
It's not. People are frustrated with Davis but not to the point where he'll get the Hyun-soo Kim treatment.

While I agree that his current bullpen usage is unsustainable I don't think the answer is defined roles.
I think it is for games like yesterday with a 4 run lead going into the 8th. That way you don't get a repeat of Sunday and have Givens pitching 50+.
-
Hyde's explanation made sense. I forgot that Hess pitched 40+ on opening day. That said, this juggling of the bullpen is not sustainable. Need to have a set set up guy and closer, IMO.

We really could use his .244 OBP since joining the Astros.
