  1. Not if he gets traded. Plus if Mountcastle is all bat and doesn't adjust, while the league does, it could make his bat useless.
  2. No one wants to talk about how it was mentioned that Mountcastle will probably be moved across the diamond or in the outfield too? Also @Luke-OH, when the players were venting, it was towards the end of the season after Mountcastle had been there for over a month and a half. It was less "man, he is struggling there to adjust" and more "he is struggling and not learning."
  3. Big difference in how the issue was presented. Buck about Hays and Stewart (essentially): I gave them some advice on things to work on. It went well. Buck on Mountcastle: I gave him some advice on what to work on. He took it as a joke so I lit a fire under him. So Buck isn't allowed to say anything less than stellar reviews of players that are in the Orioles system, from the DSL to the MLB level?
  4. That's how it seemed at first, but taking into account what @Tony-OH has provided too, it seems like Mountcastle laughed in the "don't tell me how to hit" manner. There was probably more said too, but this is what was made public.
  5. There might also be the difference in how the player responded. If he talked to Davis behind closed doors and Davis laughed at him or told Buck off, it might have been made public. Just like how he talked to Mountcastle and Hays about the same issue. Mountcastle laughed, it gets made public. Hays took the advice seriously and it was never revealed until now.
  6. This was a bit of a reason for his struggle in Bowie. He was super aggressive on bad pitches, but due to his bat speed and coordination, he was able to make contact instead of striking out.
  7. If he was brought up to start vs. LHP, don't you know what the other teams rotations might be and NOT call him up if you see, or figure, the other teams would be starting righties? I wish they had let him stay in Bowie for the playoffs, atleast then he could have gotten constant at bats. Might have even helped the Baysox. I'm also wondering what Santanders role is. Switch hitter who is a Rule 5, so either see what you have or cut bait. Guessing he is getting a plane ticket to Arizona in the Fall though.
  8. I didn't watch the game, only the gamecast. I'll agree with that, but he can work on it.
  9. I think all 3 of his in play outs have been to short. Not bad. Once he gets the timing down a bit, those are going to be in the gap in left center or in the bullpens in Camden.
  10. Possibly. Between Billingsly, Clare, Ring, and McCoy, there have been some promotions that could show signs of life in the org.
  11. McCoy was added to Bowie prior to the game today and is wearing #15. Not in the starting lineup.
  12. Looking at it now, they probably pulled him up because both Baltimore and Bowie are at home. If Bowie had opened up in Altoona, then he might not have been called up. But since he wasn't far away, they went that route, even with the impending weather issues so they could get him up and with the team before the long road trip.
  13. If I'm reading the rules correctly, he would be eligible because he was not on the 40 prior to September 1st and is replacing someone who went on the DL. Similar to what the Royals did a few years ago when they put Raul Mondasi Jr. on the roster for the World Series.
  14. Helping Baltimore make the playoffs, then what? He isn't a pitcher. Again, you can have the entire lineup hit and put up a lot of runs. But then you trot out a starter who gives up twice as many. Would it have really been a bad thing to keep him in Bowie for the playoffs, then bring him up after? Or is it to try and exploit the roster rule for him to be post season eligible? Fair enough about the control. Guess we will see what they do there. Buck tends to stick with vets. When Davis has been struggling, who was at first? When Trumbo struggled, who was getting his at bats? The roster expanded and Santander is texting Kim about how to properly throw sunflower seeds at home run hitters. Playing him once a week, or just in the last inning or two of a blowout isn't going to prove anything. Then you might want to start taking up a collection to buy Buck a nice watch. I predict Rickard will still get a majority of the playing time.
  15. I'm happy for him and all...But the timing of this makes zero sense to me. First and least importantly to the Orioles apparently, is that Bowie is about to start the playoffs. They mentioned a while back they wanted these guys to play in a playoff environment in the minors if given the chance. Well, he was...Then had it taken away. Second, you start his service clock early, which will cost them time with him. Not a smart idea, when combined with... Third, when are you going to play him? Unless Santander still isn't healthy and they are masking it by making him the new Kim, they are having a crowded outfield. He's not Rule 5 eligible this year, so no need for him to have been on the 40. The offense hasn't been an issue much, it's been the pitching. You can score 8 runs, but when pitching give up 9, it doesn't matter. Do you think Buck is really going to put him over Smith/Rickard/Trumbo combos? You have Sisco and Alvarez, who have a combined 1 inning played so far since being called up with 0 at bats. He's not a pinch runner. Yaz would have been a better (and more expendable at the end of the year) option when you want might want to create an extra 40 spot for someone (Rule 5 eligible that you want to keep, Rule 5 that you keep, free agent signings) while providing good defense, a possible good bat, and more speed than Hays. I really can't wait to follow this for the rest of the season though to see how this plays out. Hoping he gets a lot of time to play and continues his pace from Frederick and Bowie.

  17. I don't see him coming up this year. Could he help them with defense and late at bats? Possibly. He could continue his tear, or he could pull a David Washington. But, even if he comes up and goes on a rampage, his presence alone won't win the World Series. Now, next season with several other pieces and hopefully a better rotation...
  18. Sedlock has been shut down for the season with a forearm issue. Will be assigned to the Instructional League in mid September, along with Keegan Akin.
  19. You get more pitchers with MLB experience in AAA, even if they are AAAA guys.
  20. He's been facing all Double A pitching. Never saw Triple A with better arms. Probably needs some time.
  21. Santander with his second home run of the game. Solo shot this time.
  22. Just launched a 2 run home run in the first. Flash was on base at the time.
  23. Lifted in the 4th with 2 outs and a runner on. 69 pitches total. Giggity.
