  1. The refereeing was pretty consistently bad today. But the Hoosiers fans probably don't want to hear about that BS double dribble or that foul on the shot clock violation. I still hate B1G refs, though.
  2. I've said this before but I dont think Turgeon inherited a significantly better situation than Gary, and certainly Turgeon has had to deal with a lot of fallout from administration ineptness and ancillary fallout from the football program having its head stuck inside its rear end. Gary tended to beat expectations, but his expectations were generally lower because of the caliber players he recruited.
  3. Wait, I thought Turgeon is doing great as far as recruiting goes. It's the results with said recruits that's the point of contention.
  4. I don't really think that being geographically close to talent has any benefit to attracting said talent to your school. Sure, it's logistically easier to plan recruiting trips, but the recruits don't give you any leg up when making their decisions. it's 100% program funding, support from school admin/leadership, and coach.
  5. I actually think this loss isn't one you should judge the team on. We got hosed this game by a lot of things, and it took a miracle inbounds play on their part followed by a super un-clutch defensive performance by Morsell to lose us the game. But if you had this opinion because of the Penn State, Seton Hall, and Iowa games (especially the Iowa game, holy crap that was a poopshow) I wouldn't blame you in the least bit. I certainly wouldn't expect you to change that opinion after this game. My only other comment here is that everyone in the B1G is losing on the road, so at least we're in good company.
  6. Has the inbounds passer always been considered live before he steps back inbounds? I've never quite seen a play like that before and honestly, assuming it was called correctly, I'm not a fan of that rule. I don't feel like the inbounds player should be considered in play until he is inside the court.
  7. He was the first player that came to mind on this topic, lol.
  8. Baseball has, in the past, largely turned a blind eye to in-game cheating with respect to hall of fame admission. I don't think this affects his HOF resume much, if at all. Though it's possible that in the twitter, righteous-fury, cancel culture of the 2010s, he does see a negative effect. A bit of thread derailment, but I feel like this is inconsistent with baseball's view on PEDs.
  9. That's not a hammer, that's a meteor. Holy hell. I honestly didn't think it was worth this amount of punishment.
  10. what in the world. 71-42. How does that offense score 42 points?
  11. They started fast. They decided to play like crap for the last 10 minutes of the first half this time.
  12. I wonder if the increased distance/time zone change as a result of being in the Big-10 versus the ACC has anything to do with the Terps sucking on the road every year.
  13. That wasn't Ayalas' fault, the feed took an eternity to get to him and he had to slow down to catch it. He went up with 2 hands, I don't think there's anything else he could have done to make it more high-percentage. Good play by the Iowa defender.
  14. Garza and Wieskamp are just sending us to school. They're just making unbelievable shots.
  15. I was tempted to downvote this just because I don't like the message and I'm sad to see you go, but I thought better of it. Congrats man! I'm going to miss your reports immensely.
  16. IMO Turgeon's ability to coach defense is his biggest strength. His teams always play excellent team defense, and they're unique in that they do so without fouling even as college refs seemingly let an absurd amount of contact go. I've almost never seen a truly bad defensive effort from a Turgeon team. I just feel like with the new rules to speed the game up, you can't just rely on lockdown defense all the time. You have to be able to score a little bit.
  17. I like the fact that we execute the plays correctly and made better decisions. That didn't happen in our two losses. The problem was more with sloppiness (bad handles - it looks like both teams had problems with this, maybe the balls were unusually slick) and decent shots that just didn't fall. I'm a lot more ok with this than I was with the other games where we just didn't execute our offensive plays and took horrible shots. We have to clean up the sloppiness though.
  18. Stix made up for it with the dunk and the strong board on the other end. By the way, I don't love the +1 on that play from Wesson. Was a good play by Wesson but I don't think Stix fouled.
  19. If you think he's a league average defender then he's a replacement level or slightly under replacement-level player. There's still some decent production to be gained with Iglesias. I think it's probably the kind of decent, cheap move you make if you're trying to feign competitiveness while rebuilding. I wonder if we're going to try and pick up a defense-first fielder at 2B as well. Villar didn't grade very well at 2B either, and preventing 30 runs on defense would be akin to about 0.2 on the staff ERA, on a team that sorely needs that run prevention.
  20. I don't know if you buy Martin's defense, but he put up below average defensive numbers according to every advanced metric out there, and he's a complete zero with the bat. He's not as big of a hole as Chris Davis, but he sure is close. This is a 2-3 win upgrade for peanuts, at least in baseball terms.
  21. Tony Batista, David Newhan. I have a thing for weird stances. Batista looks like he never saw a single game of baseball in his life until he hit the majors and somehow started hitting anyway. I remember Newhan going on his power surge, as a 5'10" 170 lb son of a writer. IIRC one of his home runs went like 465 feet and was the longest home run hit by an Oriole that season.
  22. The bright side is that Marial showed more in about 15 minutes than the Mitchell twins have shown all season.
  23. 2022-2023. No buyout. Realistically with our financial problems he's here until at least the end of next year unless he can be fired for cause. I'd argue that he's probably here until the end of 2021-2022. I'm willing to give him till the end of 2021 to see if he can figure out how to take the team to the next level. That's apparently more generous than most, but I tend to dislike coaching changes.
