I for one was expecting him to OPS 1.400 for the entire year and break Ruth's record for single-season WAR.

He's still OPSing .883 in the past 7 days despite cooling off! Having good plate discipline helps him a lot.

would you trade for hunter harvey? He's been an elite reliever for over a year now that he's finally healthy. He's familiar with us and he'd cost way less than Miller. -

A barrel is dependent on both EV and launch angle, and the range of acceptable launch angles is dependent on how hard it's hit. He gave up a HR against the Brewers that barely cleared the 373 sign, and the EV was 99 MPH and the angle was 36. The range of acceptable launch angles for a 99 MPH batted ball is 25-31. -

Yeah and that's why the whole "trout can't hit the high heat" narrative is dumb, because if it's an inch too low he hits it to Mars. -

Hit his ankle or shin. He didn't appear to have his foot planted so it didn't look terrible, but he did grimace afterward. It's also a pitching change. -

I think that sort of thing is something that's a lot easier to train when you're in your teens or early 20s. When you're in the majors it becomes really hard to make the needed adjustments against major league pitching. On top of that I think some of that knowledge/teaching becomes crystalized and older players are less able to make wholesale changes. -

I wonder what kind of player Mountcastle would be if he developed under Elias' player development system. Every player that's come up in the Elias era has had at least average plate discipline. He might be a perennial all star if Elias' team would have been able to coach swing decisions to him. -

Wait, Sano was 330 last year???? -
Between 24 and 30, the median performance deviates like, 3% from the statistical peak. There are numerous players whose true peak is not at age 26. This completely misapplies the concept of peak, and ignores the weird development environment caused by COVID. It doesn't really matter if Kjerstad came up late, as long as he can prove he can perform now. It would affect his ability to secure a second contract after he hits free agency, but that is not what is being discussed.

K rate and whiff rate are significant pretty quickly, 60 PAs for K rate, and he would be the worst in the league by a country mile in K rate and whiff rate if he qualified. Even though he's short of a significant sample, when you're this bad, even regressing his small sample leads you to troubling conclusions regarding his readiness.

Take this how you want it, but Schoop was up here for 1: a lack of better options, and 2: because despite the fact that he was an offensive zero in 2014, his defense was almost good enough to make him a passable regular despite that. It's hard to call him rushed if he's providing positive value. A second point of nuance that I'll bring up is that it might be worth considering minor league park effects. This was pre-Walltimore, and pre-baseball change to the MLB baseball. The park effects in Norfolk were so severe that for hitters, your MLE OPS was almost identical to your actual OPS. So while his Norfolk numbers weren't great, the awful hitting environment there suggested that he might be ready for Major League pitching anyway. (He probably wasn't, but again, lack of better options.) If Holliday ends up being a +10 or +12 runs above average defender over the course of a whole year (and he very well might be, his OAA is already far above average) then you probably live with a .600 OPS from him, especially considering how big of a black hole 2B has been for the past 2 years. But of course he's far below that threshold at this point. I don't think any of this indicates that Holliday was rushed. Machado had worse minor league numbers than Holliday at close to the same age, skipping AAA all together despite only putting an 850ish OPS there, and Machado put up a 1.3 wins in 1/3 season and 5 wins in his first full season.

It was chilly today. It doesn't really warm up in LA until like July. But summer kind of lingers through October. -

its 390 to the middle of the power alley. I'm guessing 375-385 to the point Adley hit it. -
