  2. The London Majors are pleased to announce the signing of pitcher Cohen Achen, a senior at Lindsey Wilson College (NAIA) who has shined as a starter for the Blue Raiders over the last two-plus years. A native of Calgary, AB, Achen has gone a combined 13-7 with 186 strikeouts in 139 2/3 innings over 24 starts during the last two seasons. In 2023, he pitched to a 3.16 ERA and 1.14 WHIP and earned Mid-South All-Conference First Team honours. His strikeout prowess has stood out. After posting a very strong 10.4 K/9 in his sophomore season, the right-hander put up an eye-popping 13.4 mark last year. That number was tops in the conference and fifth-best in all of NAIA baseball. At the same time, he cut down on his walks, leading to a 6.11 K/BB rate (110/18). “Cohen has very good command of his fastball, and he also possesses a good arsenal of secondary pitches,” said Roop Chanderdat, the Majors’ GM and field manager. “This shows well in his low walk and high strikeout numbers in college. “He’s a guy we’re counting on to be a big part of our pitching staff.” The 22-year-old began his collegiate career at Big Bend Community College in Washington before the COVID-19 pandemic shut down the 2020 season. When baseball resumed, he made the transfer to Lindsey Wilson College, where he has thrived. After a few appearances out of the bullpen in 2021, the 6-foot-2, 210-pound hurler moved into a starting role. And he hasn’t looked back since. He was named Mid-South Conference Freshman of the Year in his debut – and a first-team all-star in the two years since. “I’m excited for the opportunity to go to a new team and create new relationships and experiences,” Achen said of joining the Majors this summer. “I’m looking forward to competing with a great group of guys and continue to play ball at a high level.” https://www.theibl.ca/news/majors-sign-rhp-cohen-achen https://lindseyathletics.com/sports/baseball/roster/cohen-achen/26038

  4. https://wsuraiders.com/news/2023/5/23/baseball-gongora-named-pitcher-of-the-year-raiders-reel-in-all-horizon-league-honors.aspx INDIANAPOLIS — The Wright State baseball program has received a conference-high ten Horizon League honors, the league office announced Tuesday, headlined by Sebastian Gongora earning Pitcher of the Year accolades and head coach Alex Sogard winning his third Coach of the Year award. In addition to the major awards, the Raiders placed six players on the All-League First Team, with Gehrig Anglin, Jay Luikart, Andrew Patrick, Sammy Sass, and Jake Shirk joining Gongora. Patrick Fultz and Joey Valentine collected All-Freshman Team honors. Gongora's award marked the fourth time in school history that Wright State captured HL Pitcher of the Year honors. Sogard won Coach of the Year for the third time in his five years with the Raiders, becoming the first WSU head coach to win three HL Coach of the Year honors. PITCHER OF THE YEAR Sebastian Gongora Gongora compiled a 9-1 record in the regular season with a 2.87 ERA and 77 strikeouts in 78.1 innings. The Dayton, Ohio native has gone a perfect 8-0 with a 2.89 ERA and 64 strikeouts over ten starts (62.1 IP) against conference opponents. He leads the Horizon League in wins, ERA, opposing batting average (.221), and hits allowed per nine innings (7.35) while also possessing top-five HL marks in innings pitched (3rd), strikeouts (3rd), and WHIP (4th, 1.23). Gongora took home Horizon League Pitcher of the Week after striking out seven batters in eight shutout innings versus Oakland (3/26). The left-hander enters the postseason with four or fewer earned runs allowed in five-plus innings in 12 starts.
  5. https://www.perfectgame.org/Players/Playerprofile.aspx?ID=523270 Andrew Tess is a 2024 C/SS, OF with a 6-0 186 lb. frame from Clearwater, FL who attends Calvary Christian. Prototypical, durable, catchers frame with lean muscle. At the plate, starts in a slightly open stance with hands close to his body. Employs a pull approach, trying to lift the ball. Shows an unfinished swing, cutting it off on the follow-through. Defensively behind the plate Tess starts in a side-saddle position. Replaces his feet well with smooth transfers on his throws to second base. Arm pulls down hard and creates some carry. Clocked a 7.0 60-yard dash. Excellent student.
  6. Slot bonus $562,000 Former Auburn right-hander Chase Allsup was selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the fourth round of the 2024 MLB Draft on Monday afternoon. The three-year Tiger pitcher joins the Orioles after posting a 6-5 record and 5.11 earned run average over 56 career games on the Plains. Although Allsup was never quite able to capture dominance on the mound over his collegiate career, the Dothan, Alabama native continuously flashed an above-average, high-velocity fastball, and devastating slider that helped him accumulate a 10.1 SO/9 during his time as a Tiger. While Baltimore’s major league rotation is fairly set with American League All-Star starter Corbin Burnes leading the pack, Allsup’s live arm could allow him to rise quickly up the minor league ladder as a bullpen arm. If the former Tiger is able to develop other offerings on the mound he could challenge for a spot at the back end of the Orioles rotation as soon as 2025 https://auburnwire.usatoday.com/2024/07/15/auburn-baseball-mlb-draft-chase-allsup-baltimore-orioles/
  7. It is very ridiculous and disappointing that we passed on Brecht. I wonder if Elias knows what he is doing???
  8. I keep getting error 403. I give up trying!!
  9. Boone trying to manufacture a run from that walk. Why don't we do that??
  10. I can't stand when we give a leadoff walk!! The way we hit, we can't afford to give away runs!!!
  11. Maybe this game is a win because we hit a home run!!
  12. I'm not sure the O's can beat anyone now! They had hitting opportunities and no one can bring a run home, and we let opposing pitchers off the hook. That last opportunity with runners on 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs and we don't score, may be the only opportunity we are going to get in this game.
  13. The Yankees scored the run with 2 outs, maybe all they need to win. Grisham a .173 hitter.
  14. How many runs will the O's score off Rodon? Kremer is not a shutout type pitcher! On a good day he will allow 2 runs which is good. Why doesn't Hyde try to encourage us to get on base anyway we can? Try to take a walk, slap the ball through the infield and maybe bunt to try to get on. Hyde just lets us just hack to try to hit homers!! I am wondering about Hyde's managing skills???
  15. Why does Hyde keep putting weak hitting Mateo, Urias, Mullins and McCann in the line up? That is guaranteed 3 innings of no scoring. Cowser is also a weak bat.
  16. Losing Bradish and Means has really hurt us. We were unbeatable with those guys. We are going through what the Yankees went through last year, with all their injuries. Injuries can kill any team in every sport.
  17. I worry Elias plan is no longer working! Our hitters weaknesses are being figured out as well as our pitching. Proper coaching is needeed help corrections!
  18. We are not the team we had last year! Disappointed!
  19. I'm pissed at our sudden collapse!!! All our weaknesses are showing now, bad hitting and pitching! I thought we were an elite team.
