  1. The Redskins already had the trademark revoked in 1999. It was restored in 2003 after a lengthy appeals process. Same thing will happen this time. This is symbolic in nature only as the Redskins don't lose any rights while it is (or soon will be) under appeal. Snyder will not go down without a massive fight. Not a big deal...carry on.

The name is going to change eventually no matter what... Snyder might as well get it over with.

  2. I haven't greeted a group of Native Americans as Redskins. But I did have a great, but short, conversation with a group of 8-10 Native Americans while wearing my Sean Taylor t-shirt at Red Rocks when we played Denver last season. It ended with a "Let's go Redskins" chant. I had a longer conversation with another Native American while tailgating. He's from New Mexico and seeing them in Denver and Arizona were his best opportunities to see them. He was much more emphatic about the generated controversy. Anecdotal? Sure, but these experiences shape my viewpoint.

Cool. I'm sure plenty of Native Americans aren't offended by it... but plenty are. If it's a word you would feel uncomfortable saying in common conversation, common sense says it's probably not a great name for an NFL team.

  3. Oh what an imaginative argument that totally addresses the actual points I was making.

The pejorative definition of the term Redskin is archaic.

Dan Snyder has the right to free speech.

That is really all there is to the topic.

Your interpretation of what "free speech" means is interesting. The government isn't cracking down on him so I really don't see what that has to do with anything at all.

You claim it's not a pejorative. If it's not a pejorative, you would feel comfortable using it in every day speech, right? Would you feel comfortable calling a Native American a redskin?

  4. Right, language evolves. And "Redskin" hasn't been used as a pejorative in decades. :D

So when the meaning or connotation of a word loses it's taint it's time to quit worrying about it. To keep harping on the outdated usage only serves to keep the outdated definition alive.

You should greet a group of Native Americans as "redskins" and see what they say. I'm sure they will all be cool with it since it's only white people making a fuss.

  5. This will be my first full season in New York. It'd be cool to meet some of you guys at an Orioles game in the Bronx or an IronBirds game on Coney Island.

Hey, another Richmonder transplanted to Brooklyn, huh? When did you move up? I've been here for about a year. I've already managed to catch Jim Johnson blow a save at Yankee Stadium, certainly not an experience I wish on anyone.

  6. Courtesy of Dan Connolly.

This is the longest Orioles game since -- wait for this -- the Orioles played consecutive 18-inning games on 8-24 and 8-25 1969

Really? I thought I remembered watching a 20+ inning game vs. the Phillies about 10 years ago but who knows, I'm borderline delusional at this point.
