The Rangers are going to be a dangerous team in the playoffs.

If Houston gets Verlander, our path to the WS will have been reduced a good bit assuming we hold. Unless Texas and Houston play each other somehow...

During Steven Matz's last 9 games (4 starts) he's pitched to a 2.56 ERA (2.84 FIP) and  has 35 K's in 31.2 IP.  I'm not necessarily beating the drum for Steven Matz unless the cost is cheap in prospects and the Cards cough up a lot of money, but maybe we should curb our enthusiasm for Cease and conserve our ammunition for the offseason when there will be a lot better value available.

Fair enough but he only makes it through 6 regularly.

Here’s the Rub …it would probably take something like 1/2 of the 21.5 for this year and probably $23 to $27 million of the $43 for next year. So they’d be looking for value plus $35.75 million in surplus trade value . My guess is that cost you what they perceive is 4.5 WAR in value plus. I’m think they’d want 4-5 of our prospects plus 3 really good ones minimum.

    I don’t see it happening

    Yeah, I don't either..

Good idea. Let's add Kate Upton-Verlander to the wives roster.

He's scheduled to start against Gibson a week from tomorrow. Would love to move Gibson to Sunday. He wouldn't even have to relocate.. ha!

Could also mean the Mets? They may have traded Robertson but it's easy to imagine some trepidation over trading away some of their big pieces with the way Cohen had expected to be in a better position at this point of their season. He seems like a competitive guy.

    I want Verlander..

Anyone else surprised the O's weren't in on Robertson given the low asking price the Marlins paid? (#20 + #24 prospects)

The crew on The Fan seem to think we passed on him because we're going after bigger fish.  Just their opinion, no sources.

I think the biggest reason we will not see Goldschimidt in the O's uniform is that he makes 24M per year through the end of 2024 and O'Hearn, Mountcastle and Mayo are/will make peanuts.

Is there another 1B we'd consider that is <=> Goldschmidt's production at a lesser price tag? I think we have our 2b 3b SS of the future already here,  where else can we upgrade our offense?

Elias has a habit of short rehab periods.  Results don't matter to him during rehab.  Just health.

I think Elias/Hyde see Mountcastle as a core player for the team.  He has been core for a couple of years.   And now that he is hitting most lefties they team needs players that can hit lefties.

With O'Hearn used most vs righties there is an opening for Mountcastle.   I don't think trading Mountcastle plays into it at the moment.    But it might went Mayo is ready for the majors.

Yeah... I was thinking we may entertain bringing on Goldschmidt who has another year until Mayo is ready and use our 1b resources to get some pitching.. but that would break up the clubhouse somewhat, how important do you think Elias considers that?
