When people are looking at Cease's ERA you have to remember that he has one of the 4 worst defenses in baseball playing behind him. His ERA would see a fairly significant decline with a solid defense. The WSox have a -102 DRS from 2020-2023, credit to 1908 on another message board for looking that up.
If I am Elias I take that into consideration but I tell the Sox yeah sure.

Standing pat with our current starting rotation is certainly a choice...
They aren't a bad group.. you just don't know who you will get on any given day. All of them can go 6 giving up 2 or less from time to time.. or blow up in the first inning.

It would seem so. If those are your trade value expectations, you're going to be left to the bargain basement, scraping up the Joe Saunders and Rich Hills.
Not at all.. I am going to pass... I already have Saunders' and Rich Hills in my inventory.

I think he'd rather have an excuse not to make a big deal.
Thus far I can't think of a single trade in which I think the team getting the boost clearly overpaid.
Who has been moved that you think we should have gotten?

Seems Elias is waiting for these teams to break and if they dont he is taking all his chips off the table and going home with them.
My kinda guy.. he knows what he is willing to part with, if there isn't a match, just isn't the right time.

Soo innings pitched?.. the end-all be-all of pitcher effectiveness?
You're on another planet if you don't think Cease is a big boost to our current rotation as well as our future starting rotation outlook. Zoom out. Look around. Consider the context.
I'm not saying you throw it all away for this guy, but the way some here are talking about him as if he's another Miguel Gonzalez is just silly. Granted, he's not having the best stretch recently, maybe that's opening a window for negotiation in the Warehouse.
I'm on another planet then. Those stats aren't worth a top 5 perhaps 10 prospect.

I hate to tell you, but there aren't that many pitcher who average 6+ innings these days and even fewer who do it with the peripherals that Cease does. Also, you made me defend a White Sox player and now I'm super salty.
Likely true, sad, but true. But isn't worth a Kjerstad, Cowser etal. I'm not sure he averages 6 innings but it's close.

This guy isn't much of an upgrade...

Oh no! That thing that had a 1% chance of happening didn't happen. I'm stunned.
Be interesting to see what they sent NY as many here said Houston had no parts of any value to play with..

Irvin?
Would you trade Tyler Wells for him?

I have to think a Cease deal would have to include two of Mayo, Kjerstad, or Westburg plus a prospect or two further down the food chain. It would hurt to be sure.
No thanks.

That's not true. It used to be a verification that the user is who they say they are, verified on a case by case basis by Twitter staff. Useful when searching for Tweets of public figures/celebrities/news outlets, etc.
Blue check marks being useless is a new thing within the past year from Elon.
As far as I understand it you still have to prove you are the person being represented to get the Blue Checkmark.

I get that same feeling from all of this too. Negotiating is an art form and the jury is still out on how good of a negotiator Mike Elias is. He's superb at evaluating talent, but how good of a negotiator is he?
To Be Continued...
In is press conference the other day, Elias expressed that they have algorithms in place that have been success for years in assisting them with player evaluations when looking at trades. So I think he's removed some of the subjectivity from the equation on his side.

Carlson is definitely a good buy-low candidate. But I can't imagine Flaherty being the guy we wanted all along. He looked like an emerging front-end starter a few years ago but nowadays he is pedestrian in his headline numbers, peripherals, and stuff.
Yes I didn't mean them specifically.. but in that vein.

Me too. I think we bow out of a bidding war for JV and Erod… as we should.
The publicity of our part in a bidding war for Verlander etal help lower the price for who may really want, Flaherty/Carson?

Because those teams may not be willing to trade as much or he may not want to go there.
And as someone pointed out previously, they just reload with new FA's, Snell, etc.

I guess, but you might as well continue to not engage in the rumors at all, like he had been to date. It's not his job to set expectations. Just choose to only report confirmed stuff, that's fine. RTing this was actively petty IMO.
If ERod or Verlander get moved, does that drive the cost up or down on who's left?
