Rob Long expressed after the acquisitions by Toronto the O's will be facing some high level pitching talent for all 4 games. Not sure I agree....

Who, exactly, doesn't have a wart?
What perfect pitcher is worth a top 5! prospect?
Are there even a dozen pitchers in today's game that meet your criteria? You place a pretty high value on the fifth best prospect in the system.
Ok lets say top 3 prospects, much higher for a rental. Verlander took 103 pitches to get through 5.1 innings. You are correct there isn't anyone available that I would give any of our top 3. I watched Hader close yesterday.. he was disappointing to watch as well. But one game likely isn't a good bar to use.

Every available pitcher has some warts. If I am giving up a top 3-5 prospect, I want a wart free pitcher. Someone who gets past 6 innings regularly and at times through 7. Even Verlander only went 5.1 yesterday.. don't know if that could be related to trade possibilities.. but disappointing if not.

It's a long shot, but Cease (FA 2026) has been discussed frequently. If a move was made, I'd expect the return to be valued at something like Cowser and Ortiz. It's a tough pill to swallow, as we lose 6 years of each, but Cease has ToR stuff and is highly valued around the league. Maybe a Kjerstad and Norby pairing? Again, unlikely, but fun to speculate.
Pass...

Why can’t we just pay our fair share of the salary? We aren’t paying anyone else. The roster is only going to get more expensive as time goes on especially if we hope to compete with the best consistently. As we are seeing, other teams are not going to stand pat even in the future.
Latest On Justin Verlander
By Steve Adams | July 30, 2023 at 5:50pm CDT
Following the Mets’ trade of Max Scherzer to the Rangers led to further increased speculation about a trade of fellow high-priced, multi-time Cy Young winner Justin Verlander. Several teams have been tied to the nine-time All-Star, including the Rangers, Astros and Dodgers. However, Andy Martino of SNY reports that the Mets value Verlander much differently than Scherzer. They’ve placed a higher asking price in terms of prospects and aren’t willing to pay down salary to the same extent they were in order to move Scherzer.

What is Sig's role in the organization? He can only persuade?

Kjerstad minus or Ortiz plus. The money matters too - so adjust based on how much they’d want the Mets to eat.
Well the fact that we are losing Gibson next year helps.

Verlander is available, even if not an option for the O’s could be for someone like the Dodgers
We can afford the deal Texas got for Max? What prospect of ours would be in the neighborhood of what Texas gave up?

This specific area may be, and I emphasize may be, Adley's weakest area on defense. So if he is calling pitches this is on him. If Ben McDonald knows that information then Adley should know it. But we don't know who is calling pitches.
I will be interested in how they pitch to Rizzo today. Have they learned anything these last two games?
You'd think that Dodger game would have been cemented into their mind.

Jordan Hicks? Hard pass.
He's been pretty good since the middle of June.

Pitching is obviously a major need, but I will point out once again, our offense is not going to get us to the promised land. I posted recently that we have had 19 games with eight hits or less in the last 30, and last night, five hits, some of them in the same inning, Hitless the rest of the game. But I don't really know who's available that can make a substantial difference, so perhaps pitching should be the focus and try to win every game 3-2

McKenna can pitch right?

Fly ball Picher isn't where the league is at.

These Yankee hitters just aren’t going after the pitch at the top of the strike zone. Wasn’t happening last night either.
Is it just me? I think Wells will not be successful being a flyball pitcher.

He was awful as a starter, and I mean awful. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.
Was....

If we don't make any moves for a starter... would you consider trying him there again... or we're happy for him to fill his current role?

I both love and hate that nothing comes out of the Warehouse anymore. Elias runs a tight ship and the Lorenzen rumors are probably coming from an agent.

Weams vehemently rooted against the Pirates because of the "We Are Family" dudes takin' it to the Orioles in '79. He never got over that.
I'm still rooting against Elway... oops wrong arena....

Hard to believe at this point they don’t get it done.
Interesting to see how they play his player option for 2024. If the Rangers could get him as a rental for $15M that would awesome for them... but Max doesn't want that path based on previous remarks.

Are we seeing players with multiple years of team control being moved?
I’m not saying Orioles shouldn’t be trying to get better but deadline isn’t over.
And as you know we have no idea how much money Elias can take on.
Agreed. Can_of_corn's commentary no matter how true, still requires some parameters for it to work for us. But those in charge have to see a trip to the WS is in sight. Have to push the right buttons for it to be realized.

Interesting to me that this leaked.
I wonder if Mets are trying to pressure him to leave.
He already said he had plans to talk wit them about their future plans.. I suppose this is their answer.

Yeah but you have to think about the cost of these team’s organization. I am not giving up 6 years of Mayo or Kjerstad for 40 yr old pitchers.
Don't misunderstand me, I don't want Verlander at any cost. I want him at the right cost. I prefer taking on $$$ and keeping higher level prospects if that's an option. I would send Tyler Wells and Mountcastle back as part of a deal.. Would Alonzo agree to DH all the time? lol
Should the Orioles retire Mussina’s number?
