  1. I'm not sure O'Hearn is here next year so Santander could move to 1B/DH with Mounty. OF could be Hays, Mullins, Kjerstead, and Cowser, no 5th OF. Santander could fill in. They need someone able to play credible CF other than McKenna (no options) or Hicks (np wheels, FA), I don't think there is a ready backup in AAA so probably some offseason pickup or maybe they were serious about Mateo being an option there. We just need someone to spell Mullins a bit.

  2. This is what we know from Forbes. They report Revenue, Payroll + Expenses, and Operating Income (Profit). There is likely some profit from MASN that goes to the Ownership group directly. The Revenue figure includes MASN rights fees I believe. Operating Cost I calculated to see if it was going up under Elias, it is. Payroll+Expenses (Player Expenses) are generally about $20 M over Salaries but some years they push $40 M. Don't know why. Clearly the O's made about $150 M in 2021+2022.

Year Revenue Salaries Payroll + Expenses Revenue - Expenses Operating Income Operating Cost

    2014 245 110 122 123 31.4 91.6
    2015 239 118.9 137 102 8.8 93.2
    2016 253 147.7 162 91 -2.1 93.1

This is my fear. She'll become owner and allow JA to keep "running" the team as quasi-owner.

During the Bros lawsuit it came out that Georgia had commissioned someone to look for buyers and one was found. John stepped in and stopped it. I can only assume because if PA dies, ownership passes to Georgia and she gets the step up in valuation so they dodge most Capital gains. I think JA is holding the sale post PA, over the politicians head re: increasing the $600 M so JA gets to build a monument to his ego at Camden Corner. They won't do it so JA sells ASA PA dies.

I have my doubts as a Boras client Gunnar will sign an early extension, but I want the Orioles to make a good faith effort to at least negotiate a contract extension with Gunnar. It would buy a lot of goodwill with the fans if John Angelos could pull it off.

Mike Elias would have to pull it off but JA would take credit for it.

I have yet to get tickets in my cart...keep getting the Opps message...like 200 times.wtf

I got the OPPS message all last night and this morning ( I'm 2024 FLEX). I got tickets to 1st WC game fine, then OOPS. I sent an email to Rep and this morning was told the system has a problem if the number of tickets you ask for is less than the number available in the Row-Section. I was asking for 2 but 3 were available together so no dice.

  6. I'm 2024 Flex and my window was Noon to 2 PM today. Logged in and got 2 tickets for a WC game. Logged out and in again but was unable to get any ALDS or ALCS tickets no matter how many supposedly available options were offered. I kept getting an error window that they weren't available and needed information was missing in a little text box. I'm going to try again tonight after work.

The 5 K's in 13 AB would definitely suggest that he's got some adjusting to do. And while I think HK has easy power to all fields, it's worth noting that last night's HR snuck into the first row of the cheapest LF in baseball. It's hard not to be happy with the early results though, and I haven't seen anything to move me off my expectation that he becomes a force in the middle of the lineup.

A couple of those SOs were called 3rd strikes. HK has a very good eye but he isn't going to get the benefit of the doubt from an ump as anewbie. Hell Adley isn't getting that and he has a great eye. They seem to be throwing more off speed to HK so I guess we see if they find a weakness. With his bat speed and eye I don't fastballs will be a problem.

Development and homegrown are 2 different things.

While I agree with you generally, for guys like Santander and Wells, who have ben in the O's system for so long, it get a little fuzzy for me. They are different than a Cano or O'Hearn where we "fixed" them. Maybe the separation should be drafted and developed vs homegrown?

And dont sleep on Coby Mayo...who may end up being our best power hitter for the future.

I think Mayo and Holiday get the Gunnar August 31 treatment in 2024 to preserve ROY status for 2025. 2024 is for HK and CC and Ortiz.

I think Kjerstad will replace Santander and maybe sooner than we think.

I kinda agree but there seems to be a feeling that Santander is the glue for this team and he has been around as long as Hays and Mullins. Maybe he is next year's "veteran" presence in ARB 3 and we keep his switch-hitting bat 1 more year and QO for a pick. That said, could Ant replace O'Hearn and share 1B/DH with Mounty? ME has some decisions to make.

I kind of felt this before anyway but Kjerstad > Cowser. Now, that doesn’t mean I don’t like Cowser or don’t think he won’t be good or that I don’t want to hand him a starting job next year but if I had to trade one or the other, I’m trading Cowser and if I could only start one on OD next year, it’s Kjerstad.

I know Cowser may be the more complete player but I’m still taking Kjerstad’s power as the one skill I feel will translate the most/best out of any skill either possesses and they both possess a lot of skill.

This is the way I feel as well, but I have been a HK booster all along. I feel like HK's power is better but CC has higher SLG at AAA as well as higher OBP. Go figure. The thing is HK has a rep of below average speed but his Fangraphs Spd rating is higher than CC's. Westburg (6.6), Ortiz (6.5), HK (6.0), CC (4.9). Now their rating seems more tied to baserunning so decision making factors in. My eyes say HK is faster than CC but the sprint speed and scout ratings don't agree. I believe HK will be at least average in RF and his bat will play in 2024 ROY race.

I purchased the 1200 Birdland Flex for 2024 after all the ads on the Monday broadcast.  I got a confirmation receipt but I have received nothing yet by email  as to buying playoff tickets.

I am in the same boat, impatiently waiting

  13. Hell will freeze before I cheer on JA for anything other than selling the team. I could cheer ME for trying to emulate the Rays but I refuse to believe JA will let him. JA has already gone on record saying that increased spending depends on increased revenue. To me that says his baseline is current salary levels which allowed him to bank $150 M in profit the last 2 years. This year should be even better but I doubt ME gets another $30 M to spend.

Was in RF bleachers at Memorial when he led off 69 series against Tom Seaver with HR just over fence below us .. loved Buford. From older Oriole days .. I would offer up Jim Gentile and Milt Pappas , from 80s Scott McGregor and Mike Boddicker

We are NOT allowed to revisit '69 lol. How about Dave Johnson?

  15. As for Kjerstad vs Cowser, Heston seems to have recovered somewhat in September posting .317 .391 .463 (854 OPS) in 41 ABs vs Cowser at .273 .325 .576 (901 OPS) in 33 ABs. Cowser's SLG is driven by 3 HRs in 33 ABs. I thought Heston would get the Gunner treatment when he put up .387 .453 .640 (1.093 OPS) in July but he ran outta gas in August .229 .293 .362. Good to see him rebound in September.

    I'm 47 with a 3 year old & a 5 year old. I'll be in the ground by 65, assuredly.

Nah. have a little faith, lol. I'm 74, was 43 when we adopted two terrible 2s from Ukraine in 1992. I survived that, losing my research career which caused nomadic, cross-country relocations for a decade and they have become semi-productive young adults @ 32 & 33 in spite of it all. Hell I even survived divorce. You got this!!!

  17. I believe alot of the discrepancy between the models' prediction and our record is due to our bullpen, both during 2012-2016 and since last year. We win (won) a higher than expected number of games late and close. There is no way a model run in March can predict what happened last summer after Lopez, an Allstar closer, was traded. Nobody could predict Bautista becoming THAT guy after all his Mil struggles. Similarly, who could predict Cano, with a Mil stat line like Felix's, would find himself in ST, certainly not a model that forecasts based on past performance. Strong bullpens skew the results.

  18. Not withstanding all the posts above but after 1997 Peter Angelos let Davey Johnson go or rather pushed him out. Davey got the maximum out of his teams which is why he is in the HOF as a manager I believe. The reason, the Alomar spitting incident in Sept of 1996. Davey fined Alomar and sent the fine to a charity. PA objected to Davey selecting the charity and considered it insubordination.

  19. Yup that is life in the "sticks", 9 of my 10 acres look just like that. About the only difference is I have a Kubota tractor vs the 4 wheeler, don't use Stihl cause they are hard to sharpen, and my pic would have 3 German Shepherds running around, lol.
