  1. Yet another case of Frobby thinking about something and then doing his homework... it's the incarnation of Bill James spirit on the homefront... thanks for all that...

ps: You're the one doing all the work, so I don't wanna push this much... but I think The Rickster has a point about adjusting the SP's numbers somehow... saying BOS lost more than 250 SP-games in one season is kinda weird despite knowing how you got it...

  3. So my now ex told me she wanted to break up with me today through a text message and has since been upset at me and claiming I didn't care about the relationship because I didn't try to convince her otherwise.

The thing is, this is probably the 4th time she's done this, so I'm tired of it, and it didn't seem like things were going to work out anyway, so why am I going to fight for it?

  4. My daughter (first child) was born tonight. And I didn't pass out!

Congratulations. For the next several years, she will think you know what you're doing ;-)

Poor thing, cute little girl going through life with the name Eddie Murray Backwardsk.

Now, that is great!!! Well done...

My daughter is smiling alot now it's awesome! When she smiles like that I get a big smile on my face to.

Reminds me of the end of the sci-fi movie, 2010... "My God, it's full of stars!!!"

  6. I realised this morning that, for the first time in my life, I am older then any player on the Orioles.

You think that's fun, just wait until you're older than the GM and almost as old as the manager...

  7. And how about the check writers?!> Ugh! Who the hell writes checks anymore in stores, much less when you have 20 people behind you in line at the grocery register!

I know what you mean, but it's a free country (more or less), so they can write checks if they want.

What bugs me is when they stand there doing nothing until the total comes up, and *only then* do they start digging around in their purse... like it's a big unexpected surprise. "What? Who, me? I need to pay? Is that how it works?" You know it's coming... we all know it's coming. So don't just stand there like a bump on a log, get yourself ready to pay the dang bill, woman!

  8. Having grown up and learned to drive in the DC area, I am used to crazy drivers. I am one myself. But I saw a new low today on my way out of College Park.

4 lanes: 3 going straight, one turning left. I'm in the middle lane going straight, behind this minivan. We've been sitting at the red light for about 2 minutes. The green arrow goes on for the folks in the left turn lane. The guy in front of me glides forward a bit, then just takes off through the intersection! I don't even know what to call this. It's way past "running" the light. It was solid red for 2-3 minutes at that point and he just up and drove straight through. Somehow the oncoming cars making their left turns didn't smash him to bits. Nobody honked. We were all too :eektf::confused:

People do amazing things for no reason. I once saw a guy in a VW Golf, who was trying to hurry up and get into the RH lane from the middle lane, look back over his shoulder to make sure nobody was coming, and then swerve into the RH lane... crashing directly into a large white work van that was driving along right next to him. It wasn't in his blind spot, it didn't come out of nowhere, it was right there, driving along right next to him (and being very large) the whole time.

  9. Not sure what the DMV is like in Florida, but it's probably not too much to ask to pay 70 cents more to avoid the hassle of driving to the place and standing in line.

Only if they're trying to serve them and not you. It's cheaper for them to do it online or through the mail than it is to deal with you in person. They should give a discount, not charge a premium.

My wife's business has to pay lodging tax to the city, county and state. They share one online system and they do give a discount. Not much of one, about 1% or less, but a discount nonetheless... which is almost proof that it's cheaper for them...

  10. I think my grandfather's last two boats were bought by Europeans. Not sure why but they really seem to like buying second hand American boats. :noidea:

Because the exchange rate makes greenbacks the new American peso...

  11. However, it's a valid drawback to the situation from where he stands.

But who cares about whether sportswriters like the nightlife (or whatever) in ST? This is like bands doing songs about how rough it is being rock stars on the road, instead of doing what they're supposed to do, which is to write songs about things relevant to their audience, like true love and broken hearts and personal crises and stuff like that...

  12. Okay local media. Stop griping about spring training moving to Sarasota from Ft. Lauderdale. I'm *REAL* sorry you liked the Ft. Lauderdale area better for your own personal reasons, but the situation is HUGE upgrade for the team. So shut your traps already and find new favorite places in the spring. You're still down in FA in early spring for crying out loud "working."

    What are they whining about?

  13. These days, when you go to baseball-reference.com, about half the time there's a very annoying ad for Outback cleanser. The ad sprinkles little piles of virtual dirt on your screen and then wipes them away. While it's doing this, you can't do anything. You have to wait until it's over. While this just takes a few seconds, since you're powerless to do anything, it feels like longer than that. And each time it happens, it feels longer and longer. I never heard of Outback cleanser before, but I have now, and I will make a point of never, ever buying it, no matter what. How clever of them.

  14. Motherf***ing poor people.

Rela nice of you a-holes to break into my car and steal my golf clubs, school books, freaking homework that's due tomorrow, expensive calculator, sunglasses, cleats, bat, glove, and probably more stuff that I can't remember being in there.

I guess 3 years in the city without prior incident isn't too bad, but god dammit this is annoying. Really hope my insurance company doesn't give me a bunch of crap about finding receipts for everything in there and just gives me what everything was worth.

But hey on the bright side, I'll have some new sticks for golf next year!

You're dissing people who are poor about this?

    Jeez...

  15. Again, why were the Yankees never on TV when ESPN first started covering Baseball? Every week it was the A's, Blue Jays, Braves, Pirates...etc. I don't have a "blind spot", I'm not saying that the Yankees and Sox don't get covered. I hope we haven't gotten to this point with you thinking that I don't see that.

My argument is and always has been that it doesn't matter who is winning..As evidenced by the Orioles/Royals being the first ESPN game televised, and the Yankees not being overdone on ESPN before 1995 or so. That's all.

I have told you that I worked at the local ESPN radio affiliate for some time, or have I? They laugh at the message board nonsense that ESPN "hates" their teams and "love" others. It happens everywhere, in every sport. Scott Van Pelt talks about this on his show all the time.

You keep changing the subject to irrelevant things. Nobody's talking about the guys who were there when they first started. Nobody's talking about ESPN-radio.

It's the guys involved with SC and BBTN and deciding which items are treated as important. People who used to work there admit it, and people who watch it can see it.

I don't know why you can't. Instead, you accuse others of having some anti-ESPN agenda.

Why would I have an anti-ESPN agenda? I don't. I like what they do about some things. But when it comes to MLB, they are terrible.

  16. Fair enough, although I think it's because you hate those particular teams. Let's say the Braves and Marlins were battling year in and year out, and those were the two teams that got so much attention. I wonder if you'd feel the same way. Not to say you wouldn't, but it makes me wonder.

No, it's really not. I don't really hate the Red Sox anyway. The phony fans are annoying, as are Youk wiggling his butt and Papelmouth doing his O-lips, but to me that has nothing to do with the franchise. To me, they're just the Red Sox. I do hate the MFY's, of course. You should too.

It really is a BOS-MFY bias on ESPN's part. I don't know why you can't see it. Guys who work there admit it. There is actual first-hand testimony about it, in addition to the everyday evidence that everybody-but-you sees. I just don't understand your blind spot about this. It's just your not-hating the MFY's and your being absurdly pro-ESPN that seems bizarre. Other than those two things, you seem like a reasonable guy....
