  1. That's why it's in the Rants section. They clearly don't have one, and this is just one the thousands of small examples why it's ridiculous to suggest they do. But please, enjoy the plight. It's just so funny to me that people actually believe that nonsense. It's all good though.

They do have a bias, you're correct. It's a bias for good teams within driving distance of Bristol, which sucks if you want good coverage, but in the big scheme of things really isn't all that bad... nobody dies from it.

    There ya go...

  2. Hey CNN, how's about you let us run a drill on a working (read: non distress and Coast Guard to Coast Guard working radio channel) channel without going all 9/11 redux on the nation?

We do maneuvers like that all the time, cause you know, we are part of DHS. They can try and put the blame back on us all they want, but they were some irresponsible mofos with that reporting today. Its a ridiculous expectation for public affairs to know about what Smallboat Station Blahblah is doing on a Friday morning. I have, during the summer, 13 of those under my supervision, and I literally just don't have time to know what ROUTINE drills they are doing.

IMO, the TV-news media of all stripes refuses to accept responsibility for anything. They fuel upset, and they dumb down the public by refusing to educate the public about any of our several important issues. While people choose up sides about different news channels, in these respects they're all pretty much the same. They will put the crazy stories first and they never quite get around to covering substantial matters at all. The fact that they call themselves "journalists" is, IMO, a bad joke, and that's pretty much true regardless of which channel you're talking about. Collectively, they're a noise and fear industry, not a news and information industry.

  3. It's an apartment, not a dorm. She'll know it's me. And I am passive-aggressive. And I don't like discussing other people's peeing habits with them.

The actual solution here is to just flush it twice if I'm that grossed out and stop being such a whiner, because in the grand scheme of annoying things she could do, this is not even in the top 1000 and she has been great otherwise. So instead I am here. :P

Oh, I see. I did think you were talking about a dorm.

Maybe it's just the way they did things in her home.

I once lived in a college town, and one summer there was a big drought and corresponding water shortage. Some unknown person or group put flyers in everybody's mailbox with a note saying "Tape this above your toilet." The flyer said "If it's yellow, then it's mellow. If it's brown, flush it down." Nobody knew who did it, but the town saved a gazillion gallons of water soon thereafter.

  4. People who for some reason stop flushing the toilet after midnight. Maybe you are trying not to wake me up. Thanks. But:

    1) My room is right next to the bathroom and the light is obviously on. Hence, I am not asleep.

    2) It's gross.

    3) The door makes a squeaking noise 1000x louder than a toilet flushing when it's closing and you don't pee with the door open, so why not flush?

    4) I routinely use my blowdryer and Dustbuster at 1am, so I am obviously not extending you the same courtesy. Why not be rude back? And flush the toilet?

The problem is, I can't just casually drop in and say, "Hey, you know what, you can start flushing the toilet at night, it's okay." That's just weird. So instead I come here and complain.

Put a sign on the wall. It probably won't work either, but at least it might. Posting here definitely won't.

    I will shut up now...

  5. Here's another wrinkle...it's happened when I'm not even talking to anybody of power. Here's a perfect example, something that happened a year or so ago: I was talking to a visiting third party person of similar job duties as me. He was inquiring as to how he could accomplish certain tasks here, and I was telling him that the facility was "unfortunately not built to accommodate his particular set up," and that we'd have to figure out a way to get his stuff up and running properly. A higher ranking person overheard this exchange, and complained to my director that I was speaking negatively.

Uh, what? I was being truthful AND a bit politic. I apologized for the shortcoming, and I was even going out of my way to be helpful! But I was actually reprimanded for "negatively representing."

It was the "unfortunately" that probably did it. You admitted that your place has shortcomings. You should've said, "This facility was tailored to our suite of design requirements and priorities. What you're describing assumes something else. We'll have to find a way to accommodate your particular requirements." Makes it sound like what he wants is the problem, not any "unfortunate" thing your bosses did ;-)

  6. Also, we literally just began a test in our district for making the phone service in the stores better --- specialized labor to answer phones as a one-stop-shop, to give customers an all in one service option. I'm the supervisor for my store and it's freaking amazing how crazy people react when they get great phone service. I'm even having my guys and gals call back customers that they miss a call from, to which I had a guy exclaim, "HOLY (poop)!" once we called him back. We've been running it about two weeks now and good results.

Yeah, people really like it when a company doesn't treat them like crap, and instead treats them like they're worth being treated right. You'd think companies in general would have noticed this by now, but evidently not. So, it sounds like your company is on the cutting edge of doing something obvious and sensible ;-)

  7. Actually it's the State of Jefferson.;)

    Jefferson

It's definitely not the California you're thinking of Cindy, but it's still amazing.

Speaking of states that never were, don't forget the states Lincoln, Sequoyah, and Absaroka.

Sequoyah actually made a lot of sense if you ask me, especially after the ancestors of those folks got marched out there on the several "Trail of Tears" death marches due to Jackson's policy of ethnic cleansing for land east of the Mississippi. But even in the 1900's, Congress wouldn't trust "the Injuns".

Plus, there's the state of Franklin that actually existed for a few years, albeit without admission as a state.

  8. They don't have a single good commercial. And if they did, they'd ruin by playing it 20 times a night.

That's the main thing. You'd think people in advertising would understand this. It wouldn't be nearly so bad if they would make enough of them and then rotate them so everybody doesn't get sick of seeing the same damn thing umpteen times per game. It can't be a good thing to have commercials that generate animosity and disgust.

  9. I know jail is the absolute worst for child abusers, but I bet plenty of the pedophiles on the show would rather go there than have their secret unveiled on primetime network television.

They're not pedophiles. They're after sex with underage teenagers. That's not pedophilia.

Pedophiles are after little kids who haven't hit puberty yet. Different thing.

  10. Perhaps, but that's not enough for me to label him as "selfish". I don't 100% agree that he necessarily took the "me first" stance, since it was never even brought up, but I'll admit that I won't dismiss it either.

It was brought up. ARod brought it up before he signed there. He asked Jeter if Jeter would consider moving from SS, so that ARod could be the MFY SS. Jeter said he would not. When asked if he would agree to let the best SS in the history of the game play SS for his team, Jeter said "No".

  11. We've discussed this before, they never asked him to move, not even once. A Rod offered to play third. Is A Rod a better SS? Of course, but Jeter was the SS in New York at the time, and they were in the market for a 3B after Brosius. It is what it is. If this is all you have to show how he isn't classy, it's really a stretch.

Seriously, Shack, i love ya like a brother, but Jeter has NEVER been in trouble off the field, I've NEVER heard a bad word said about him by a teammate or an opponent. Honestly, you want your athletes having a big ego. Look at Cal Jr, my goodness, no one had a bigger ego than him. He wouldn't even look at Manny Alexander that night on the bench when Davey pinch ran for him and Manny got picked off, remember that? He reluctantly finally moved over for Bordick, but it certainly wasn't like Cal was volunteering.

I would be remiss if I didn't point out that at least we're having mature, rational discussion about this. Normally, there's always someone who will come in with a brilliant "Jeter sucks", type of comment. So thanks to all for that.

I agree that he's a great #2 hitter and will deserve his place in the HOF because of that. I agree he's been no trouble, and that he has a quality that makes you want him to be on your team. However, I don't believe that's all there is to say. Nobody in the MFY FO was gonna make him move, for reasons that have to do with MFY politics and ownership. IMO, that doesn't change the fact that he took a very clear "me first" stance.

  12. They are a perfect comparison. Great players, great guys, both give a lot to charities, spend more time in the community than anyone...etc. Those kind of things make it hard not to compare to me.

Both guys are pure class on and off the field. That's my point.

Jeter is the reason they shifted ARod to 3B. He was quite clear that he was staying at SS and ARod could play somewhere else. Because of him, hit team had the best SS in the history of the universe playing out of position so that Derek's ego would not have to adapt to playing 2B instead of SS. So, instead of the best SS, the MFY's wind up with one of the lesser SS's. IMO, that's not class, nor is it putting your team first. It was a case of Jeter putting what's best for his own ego ahead of what was best for his team. Now, it's OK with me that he did that, because they haven't been to the WS since. But painting the guy like he's "pure class" is going a bridge too far when he does something like that to his team.

  13. Beaner = #1 poster on OH

    /drunk but stating truth homie

    Dear Pedro,

You're drunk. In the morning you will realize that beaner makes a point of saying he does not hate the MFY's.

What are you gonna think of your rash and unprincipled alcohol-fueled behavior then?

  14. Here I am, drunk off my you know what. Not ready to crawl into bed, yet, in fear of ending up like Bonham or Hendrix. So...having some time to kill I hit up the OH and come across these 5 pages of greatness....

Captain obvious here...But that sure looks a lot like Rich Hill's delivery.

Um, no it doesn't. You're just drunk. In the morning, you will see that they look very different.

The only thing they have in common is leaning way, way back. That's it. Other than that, they have zilch in common.

  15. I watched the game on MLB.TV. Among many, many stunning social gaffes tonight, he subtley put down the Nationals announcer by "asking" him if he ever pitched in the big leagues, which of course he had only pitched in the minor leagues. My jaw hit the ground - a new low (if that's possible) for Jim Palmer.

What in the world are you talking about? The Gnat's announcer is Rob Dibble, one of the Nasty Boys for Cincinnati. Palmer never asked him if he played in the majors. Palmer knows he did. Can't you at least get your story straight? Not only are you bashing Palmer for your own ignorance, you evidently can't even hear what he said.

  16. Well. I am embarrassed because I didn't know that! :) I live in Los Angeles and don't follow the O's locally so I don't know much about the local broadcasters in Baltimore. I just assumed with the name Jim Hunter that it was THE Jim Hunter.

Still, Palmer is a blow-hard, never the less.

Don't play dumb. Your goofy idea that Catfish Hunter broadcasts with Palmer came up when you did the same thing 12 days ago. Back then, several people pointed out to you that Catfish Hunter has been dead for some time. But, evidently, you just drop in to bash Palmer but don't bother to read anything or learn anything.

  17. So do I...and I just can't help it...I like them.

Me too... IMO, they make it more like talking...

However, we probably shouldn't rain on his rant. ( <--- note the period )

  18. Since the news broke, I think I've seen at least 8 "Manny Being..." jokes.

It wasn't exactly creative or hilarious the first time, but now its just plain irritating.

A good rule of thumb is that if a joke is really easy to come up with, its probably not funny.

I'm 6'8" and if I had a nickel for every time somebody said "How's the weather up there?", I'd be a rich guy.

A couple days ago, I was talking to an otherwise intelligent woman who said she recently saw Kevin Bacon in the airport. She said she really, really wanted to say something to him about how this affected her 6-degrees, but she was too shy. Boy, I bet Kevin Bacon never had anybody say anything like that to him before. I bet she would have been the very first one.
