  1. Because he's not far from that right now. Only thing really missing is the slugging. SG said a .260-.280 hitter. Right now, he's at .268. SG said a .360-.380 OBP. Right now, he's at .366. It's very reasonable to assume moving forward that the separation between his batting average and his OBP will be around .100 points. It was over .100 last year, it's close to it this year. If we're going to do any kind of projections on him, I feel that one will be the safest bet. So, we're 2/3 of the way there. Where he's disappointing is the slugging percentage. He has not hit for power and I don't think there's anyone here that thinks he SHOULDN'T hit for power. He's a big, strong dude. We've seen him hit some bombs and we've seen him hit some doubles. I'm not sure why he's not hitting for power but I don't believe he's going to be a .417 slugger for the rest of his career. I expect that number to be higher next year. With that, the other numbers will bump up a bit and he can get there. I don't see why .850-.870 is out of the question if he hits for more power...and I'm not even saying more homers. He hit 35 doubles last year, there's no reason he can't hit more than that next year.
  2. I like picking on SG but I agree with him a lot. And I agree with him here. We've got last year and this year to look at Adley...one great season where, if he'd played the whole year, could have snagged the ROY from Julio Rodriguez and got some down-ballot MVP love. And this year which is solid, but not great...certainly not as good as last year. Too early to tell who he is moving forward. It's hard to project. That said, I don't think SG's .870ish OPS projections are out of line at all. They're reasonable.
  3. I think so, too. Frobby, be prepared to be challenged to post a photo of yourself here shortly.
  4. I guess you could make a case for Brady at #11. I asked if Jones is a top 20 Oriole of all time, that's wide open for interpretation as to what that means. I'd probably have him somewhere past 15 though. I agree that he was a better overall player than Jones when he was at his peak.
  5. Brady Anderson at 11? I'd love to hear these thoughts.
  6. I think Manny could have been if they didn't screw up keeping him. Gunnar could lay claim to that title in the next few years. If we're including managers, I'd say Buck might be the most important Oriole of the 21st century. But I think Jones probably takes that title outright.
  7. I think a case might be able to be made for him. If someone is going to do a WAR tally and leave it at that, he might fall short...but in terms of his importance to the franchise, being a leader, etc, I'd say he's up there.
  8. No wonder @Frobbyslapped your hand for mischaracterizing his post earlier. If we're talking about "schtick," yours is to consistently misrepresent and slightly twist a post to suit some sort of argument that you're dying to make. I don't even know if you're aware that you do this but you're like the Jean Claude Van Damme of it. Let's look at what I wrote: I said that I agree that he looks worn down. If you could set your ego aside for 30 seconds, you'd see that I agree with you that he's played way, way too much. I don't believe DH-ing counts as a full day off...yes, it's not as much wear and tear as crouching behind home plate but it still invites dings and some amount of wear and tear. One more time for the slow people: This thread has been completely dormant for three weeks up until 13 hours ago, no one had made a post in here since August 29th. So yeah, Adley's been struggling but no one's been pissed off about it enough to bump this thread (you included) until the aftermath of last night where he roped one right at the 2nd baseman and also hit into that double play that killed a rally. Last night extended a losing streak to three games and it was a game against our competition for the AL East Crown. I'm going to go out on a limb and say if we win that game last night (Adley coming through in that situation or not, doesn't matter) that this thread isn't bumped and no one's talking about how poorly he's been hitting. In other words, this board loves a whipping boy (even though some of the criticism leveled at him has been warranted) and Adley is becoming one because he hasn't been as good as he's been last year. And suddenly, the team isn't winning. In other words, winning games and being up 4 or 5 on the Rays would make everyone forget about how he hasn't been performing. So...to your point: Funny thing, no one had mentioned for three weeks that he wasn't doing those things until last night. Might have been some mention of it in the game thread but no one's been coming to the table with it in the general forum because winning and first place masks everything. Which was my initial point all along.
  9. I agree that he looks worn down. But is everyone pearl clutching here if we haven’t lost three straight? If he doesn’t hit into that double play last night is everyone still freaking out?
  10. Just hope we got the good Cano tonight and maybe there's a chance we can tie it up in the bottom of the 9th.
