You concede the catch could have been made but he tried to press because of the double play. He should have taken the force out.

It was a bad throw, it was equally as bad a play on Mateo's end for not catching it, he had no chance to turn two but he could have easily caught that ball if he didn't think he had to turn two.

I've watched the last 5 games. He's made some fantastic plays and the only error I saw was the one where he lobbed the ball well over the SS head trying to turn two. I don't know what the other was, but he has excellent range there.

I feel like Mateo should have made that catch and I think he shouldn't have worried about making the DP when he saw the throw was left of the bag, it was certainly a ball that could have been caught and he should have just sold out for the force at 2nd. My opinion, anyway.
