Hi. It’s drek/ Chris. Greetings from Erie PA. Moved here about four years ago. The missus is home and doing well. Thanks for the love.

Comedy and Everything Else podcast, and a Neko Case live show. I may have to give her solo stuff a try....
Oh, and Patterson Hood's new solo record. Not bad so far, but a little samey.

The Dictators - Every Day is Saturday (demos that may just be superior to the album versions)
-
Yeah, I gots work tomorrow. But dang, son - WBC is on! Korea and Japan!!

You might find this shocking, but I'm perfectly comfortable with you being wrong.
Oh, and "icky" is part of her charm. She's a force of nature, though - and is channeling a lot of that earlier spasmatic stuff into something more controlled. It's a little hit or miss, but I think parts of it are undeniably good.
You are too kind. Truly, I do not deserve the way you treat me.
Honestly, I had a song from an early ep of their's off off a Mojo comp that cribbed part of Crimson and Clover. Good tune. I just find them really limited. But, again, I have admittedly Catholic tastes where rock bands are concerned. If I hear drums, I need some bass.

Oh, Scottie, you underestimate us.
I'm listening to the Yeah Yeah Yeah's new album, It's Blitz.
I didn't expect much, but, honestly, half of it is pretty great. I would have Karen O's babies.
I have a hard time believing it's good (bassistless bands make me uncomfortable, and one-guitar-bassistless bands are just plain unnatural), but I suppose anything's possible. But man - Karen O is icky.
New John Wesley Harding (quite good, backed up by the Minus 5) and that Superdrag album (so far, eh).

The Small Faces - Ogden's Nut Gone Flake
I had the pleasure of turning a work friend onto them. Always a good feeling to share Marriott and the boys with someone who has a look that's a special mixture of joy (from having heard something wonderful for the first time) and anger (from having not heard them before).

Listening to "Simply Because" by Rooney.
That there is a fine pop song. Just went and looked at the track list - I'm A Terrible Person, Stay Away, Sorry Sorry - There's two thirds of a fantastic little pop record there. How was the follow up? The lead off track didn't spur me to pick it up.

A southpaw guitarist I didn't know about. With a leftie Tele. Wonder what that cost him?
My lefty Tele cost me around $800; guessing his is a little better

Still on about the band...
I'm almost embarrassed to post this.
Almost?? Dude.

The Last Waltz DVD, because Comcast stinks.
If you don't have it, pick up Rock of Ages. Toussant horn charts, no special guests, and no overdubs (so far as I know).

I'd heard of it before, and bought it on your "minor masterpiece"-esque praise for it.
Plus, well, she's hot in a 40ish indie rock kind of way. It veers a little close to AOR but it's pretty good.
Gotta love that eMusic sub, eh? Actually, the track the Ride is pretty AORish, but much of the album goes in other directions. My favorite track is Real Life. Ah, grown woman desire. (Also why I love Essence by Lucinda Williams, btw). It's also my problem, as I don't know how you follow it. (hence, minor masterpiece).
Antony is on a lot of the record. Still not sure how I feel about him.
And agreed on the hotness.

Today:
"Suspect Device" - Stiff Little Fingers
"The Trapeze Swinger" - Iron and Wine
"The Patient Ferris Wheel" - The Gaslight Anthem
"Act Nice & Gentle" - The Black Keys
"Cut and Run" - Electrelane
"The Ride" - Joan as Policewoman
"Furr" - Blitzen Trapper
"Keep Yourself Warm" - Frightened Rabbit
"Sentimental Heart" - She & Him
"Each Year" - Ra Ra Riot
"Upon Viewing Brueghel's 'Landscape with the Fall of Icarus'" - Titus Andronicus
"Crimson & Clover" - Joan Jett
"Never See Me Again" - Vivian Girls
"Handle with Care" - Jennie Lewis
"The Birthday Wars" - Oxford Collapse
Well, alright! Are you the other person who owns that record? The b-sides are good, too.

Here are some artists that I just can't seem to get enough of lately.
Aesop Rock, Amos Lee, Atmosphere, Ben Kweller, Brett Dennen, Brother Ali, Coldplay, Common, Felt, Joe Purdy, The Roots, Sigur Ros, Stereophonics and Tool!
Anyone out there a fan of any of these artists?
I'm quite fond of Stereophonics, and have no problem with Tool. The Amos/ Brett/ Ben wing of the earnest young singer songwriter building does little for me.
Right now? It's all about Mel Torme for me.

Listening to ... the massive "O" during the Steelers/Ravens national anthem .. in Pittsburgh. Yea!
Heh. That's the stuff.
-
And The Truckers are only getting better...
Hmmm. Dunno if I feel the same. To be fair, I haven't given the most recent record a huge chance, but on first listen it didn't grab me. I feel like that record and Isbell's solo record cound make one fantastic single record. Thoughts?

I discovered some cool bands recently.
I've been listening to the Smiths, The Cure, and The Hold Steady.
Hate to tell you, but they've been around for a while.
Drive by TruckersDecoration Day
Love that record.

Kiss Alive. Did that ever sound like a genuine live record?

I make a couple of mixed CDs for my father each year, generally with a slight rootsy/alt country bent. This Xmas the playlist is:
1. Furr, Blitzen Trapper
2. Westfall, Okkervil River
3. Goodbye California, Jolie Holland
4. Mykonos, Fleet Foxes
5. Stockholm Syndrome, Yo La Tengo
6. Stolen Car, Beth Orton
7. Louisiana, The Walkmen
8. Steve Earle, Sugarland
9. The General Specific, Band of Horses
10. Just Be Simple, Songs: Ohia
11. Daughter, Loudon Wainwright III
12. Young Pilgrims, The Shins
13. The Trapeze Singer, Iron & Wine
14. Why Do You Let Me Stay Here, She & Him
15. Nothing But A Heartache, The Flirtations
Some of my guilty pleasures in there, and some things that push the envelope a bit, for him (who's 66 and lives in Cecil Co. - not exactly Pitchfork or CMJ's prime demographic.)
How's your mix cd going over in your Brooklyn bar of choice?
And any chance to mention how great (and still criminially underrated) Loudon Wainwright was and is makes typing this early worthwhile.

Arzachel - Arzachel
Weird psychedelic prog band who released one record under a name that wasn't even the name of the band when they existed. Due to contract issues, this was the only to get it released and the insert has fake names and bios for the band members.
You may have heard this track on Adult Swim.
I own and oddly love that record!!!! You, me, and my bassist (who turned me onto it) may be the only people who know who they were. I paid him back by playing him The United States of America. Who got the better deal?
And didn't they morph into Khan?
As for me, right now it's all about Your Happiness by Compulsive Gamblers. I'll be moving onto the Reigning Sound quite soon.

Joan as Policewoman and Catherine Wheel's Chrome, over and over. I wish I enjoyed another shoegaze band half as much as them. And do they truly qualify? Judges?
-
Listening to the new Ray LaMontagne "Gossip In The Grain". I've enjoyed some of his earlier stuff but haven't committed to an entire album yet. Kinda reminds me of early 70's perhaps a cross between Joe Cocker and Harry Nilsson......
Respect for bringing up Harry. What era? Early angelic voiced, or later, completely soused? They both have their charms.
-
The Mummies. I feel so dirty, in exactly the right way.

It's technology. You fear technology, remember?
Why do these words keep popping up on the toaster?!?!
Prayers and good thoughts for weams (Update: Weams has passed on after watching the O's beat the Yankees)

Hey, all. Sorry to hear WEAMS is having a hard time. I have some very fond memories of hangout games back in Baltimore. Here’s hoping for a speedy recovery.
