  1. His timing is completely off. Looks lost frankly.
  2. He got one! I think it helped facing a flamethrower like Uribe. Clutch hit too.
  3. Anyone else think his timing is off with his stride foot? That was the first thing I noticed about him, he is lifting it up way too early before the pitcher delivers the ball.
  4. Update: Julian Reese is coming back for his senior season, which is huge. Him and Queen could be an interesting pairing that could cause matchup problems for the opposing team. Now if Reese could at least hit like 65% of his free throws... Two significant transfers, Ja'Kobi Gillespie, a PG from Belmont and Rodney Rice, a SG from Virginia Tech. Both should provide some much-needed shooting/scoring. Gillespie is ranked 18th overall in the transfer portal by 247. Kaiser, Lamothe, Batchelor, and Swanton-Roger gone. I believe there are two scholarships open.
  5. That's not the reason I am done with him. I am done with him because he is a poor hitter and does not contribute much to the team. Stowers and Cowser are clearly better, and Kjerstad's ceiling is higher. I think CVS sells shut your mouth pills.

  7. If McKenna makes the roster over Stowers, Cowser, or even Kjerstad I'll be fairly upset. It is time to say goodbye to Ryan McKenna. Don't care about his defense. Watch him drop another fly ball like last year vs. Boston.
  8. Probably a longshot to make the roster, but hard to overlook what he is doing. I hope he makes it as deep bench guy.
  9. Who knows? That's why I was asking when he got hurt. Was it literally like two days ago? Or was it during the off-season? In general pitchers get hurt a lot because they put so much stress on their joints. Throwing a baseball over and over with tons of velocity takes a toll. It happens often.
  10. Get real. I hardly think straining your body and doing grueling exercise regiments is the key to athletic excellence either, particularly as a pitcher, whose shoulders and elbows go through an incredible amount of wear throughout their careers. Training is fine, but not in excess. Bodies need to rest and heal.
  11. I don't get it, did he get hurt on the first day? How do you get injured during the off-season? Training? I saw Gunnar was injured too. Dudes need to relax and save their bodies for the season.
  12. After watching Maryland lose at home to Rutgers a couple of days ago, I am sure this is a wasted season. Offense is so putrid to watch, no one can create shots, and when guys do get open shots they either pass them up or brick. Gonna have to win 3 out of the next 4 to even be remotely in the conversation for the tournament, and that is highly unlikely.
  13. They definitely are way better scoring 2s than 3s, they showed a stat yesterday on the broadcast yesterday indicating that Maryland was one of the best "scoring 2 point basket" teams in the nation, or something along those lines. Reese was getting position in the paint and Young was feeding him. Once Reese gets space and momentum going to his left he is hard to stop. Even Swanton-Rodger had a nice score under the basket. I'd like to see him get some more time and develop, cuz Reese in our only consistent big. Outside shooting is indeed terrible. You are correct in that the set-up pass should be crisp enough so the shooter can gather and shoot in a fluid motion, that is not something I noticed. Oddly enough, I though two of the biggest buckets in the second half were 3s by Harris-Smith and Geronimo. Gonna need contributions like that if the Terps want to go anywhere this year. Young, Scott, and Reese can only do so much.
  14. Huge win! Young and Reese were marvelous. Harris-Smith hit a big 3 late which was nice to see. Biggest win of the season by far. Gotta keep the momentum going and beat Northwestern on the road.
  15. While I am disappointed with this year so far, I would like to remind you that this is Willard's second season with the team. He made the tournament in his first year and even won a game. I feel like a new coach needs at the very least three full seasons to have a decent sense of how he is doing developing talent. Home game Thursday vs. Michigan, chance to get back on track. Terps need to string together 4-5 wins in order to get back into the tournament conversation. Beating Illinois on the road on 1/14 would be nice.
  16. I don't like it all that much either. Gonna need Rodriguez to develop into the ace we all hope he can be. Also hoping there will be no regression from Bradish. Any chance Hall becomes a starter?
  17. Terps got Palmer, who is AAU teammates with Queen.
  18. Nice win last night, flying out west and winning on the road is never easy. Young was brilliant. I liked seeing Harris-Smith play with a little more confidence. Traore got on the court, he has tons of size but needs lots of work with his fundamentals. Also needs to bulk up cuz he was getting out-muscled in the paint. Transferring out is mostly about playing time. Harris-Smith, Kaiser, and Lamothe will be the main guys next year, assuming Reese moves on, which also isn't guaranteed. I don't see any of them transferring, unless for some reason they just hate the culture.
  19. I would rate Turgeon as a fairly good recruiter actually. As far as coaching and developing talent, average. Then preparation and in-game coaching is where he failed the most. Need to give Willard time. It's difficult to bring in top 50 recruits every year, only a few blue chip programs like Duke, Kansas, etc. do that on a consistent basis. That being said it is critical if you want to truly compete year in and year out. And the transfer portal has added a whole new dimension. Don't undervalue Queen, if he could get him that would be major, would be the highest recruit Maryland has had since Jalen Smith. There are a couple other possibilities, Bryson Tucker, SF from Bishop O'Connell being the main target, and Malachi Palmer a combo guard from Mt. Zion Prep and also the highest ranked player from the state of Maryland. I watched some of the game tonight. Hard to evaluate against a scrub team like Alcorn State, but the whole team played way better. Nice to see Harris-Smith and Kaiser hit some long-range shots. Even Batchelor hit a couple. Gonna need that from them not just this year but their entire careers at Maryland.
  20. 247 has Queen as 100% signing with Maryland, I can only pray that is true. Disappointing that there are no other prospects.
  21. There are a few problems. One, Scott has regressed big time. He can't make shots at all. Young has a bit too, although he had a big game against Penn State. Those two need to score a lot if this team wants to do anything. The team has zero depth. None of the freshmen have looked that good. Kaiser finally made some big shots tonight, but has struggled mightily. Same thing with Harris-Smith, he has struggled big time. We are counting on those two being impact players right away, and it doesn't look like they are. Lamothe doesn't get any playing time. There is no one off the bench that is good. Batchelor sort of sucks. Losing Martinez and Hart hurt a lot, they both brought energy and scoring. Long brings a little, but his game is limited. The good news is the season is still young. The losses against Davidson and UAB were bad without a doubt. Aside from that they don't have any bad losses. If they had lost against Penn State at home, which they almost did, that would have been trouble. Julian Reese looks to have improved a lot, I will say that. He is not good at the free throw line, but he is a monster rebounder and can score around the hoop. Finally, 3 point shooting- they suck. Like really bad. Willard needs to recruit some shooters badly. If the freshmen improve and Scott finds his game, this team will get better. But I don't have any large hopes for this year. If they make the tournament as an 8-10 that would be a small miracle.
  22. Wish Santander bunted with two on and no out in Game 1. That is the one I wish we had back. Just felt like the smart thing to do there. I know he is a power hitter and all that, but you only get so many chances. Game 2 got away from us so quickly. Grayson needed to pitch better, bottom line. I don't know about bringing Baker in, I mean who is that guy anyway?
  23. Young coming back is huge! Could be a very potent backcourt provided Harris-Smith has the goods.
