I would hope that with the #30 and #39 picks they could have found someone they coveted.

Very true and I believe they did. My word could of been a little different I think honestly by going underslot selecting Kjerstad it allowed them to get two guys they coveted in the 4th and 5th, so they end up with 6 guys they really like. Whereas taking Martin probably would not if allowed them to get guys they valued as much in the later two rounds so the value you get buy taking Kjerstad nets you two additional guys you really like is IMO greater value and adds more talent to the system than if you take Martin who will eat up the money not allowing you to sign as great of talent in the later rounds.

  2. So I read the draft as if the O’s by taking Kjerstad were able to get three guys they coveted whereas if they had taken a Martin probably really would have gotten just the one guy they really coveted. Only time will tell if it was the right move but I like it. Martin would really have to be elite and viewEd head and shoulders above Kjerstad to take him there. the O’s must not of thought so and see more value in who they ended up with.

  3. I’m a little concerned not just because of this spring but the combination of last year in the minors and this spring. He hasn’t shown anything at the plate. I did see some video of some good looking bp sessions but that’s the only positive I can think of.

  4. As I’ve said before. the new regime has had a full season and now a full offseason with Davis I’m sure with oberservations and analysis from last season they put a offseason program in place for Davis to follow so far from everything I’ve read and noticeably seen in added bulk along with a small sample size of at bats it appears to have had a positive impact on CD. I have faith in this regime and believe if anybody can get the best out of CD they can.

He’s had three years to take direction from the organization  three years to “find motivation” and he hasn’t. The money is his whether he earns it or not, and there is absolutely no doubt that he is not earning it. The powers apparently want to give him another year to not earn it, and that is their choice. I am in the “release him yesterday” camp, and I have seen no reason to reconsider.

I understand let’s wait and see how he does this spring let’s hope the new regime was able to have a positive impact on him. Maybe new leadership could be able figure out what motivates him and was able to get more effort out of him this offseason then the previous regime.

I don’t see releasing him making a huge difference this year in the win loss column. With the service clock issue with Mountcastle and the money invested in Davis let’s see if he can show some improvements but if not when it comes time that Mountcastle and others need everyday at bats yearly to mid summer and his presence hindering them and there no improvement then I think they cut him but not before then. I think this just the more realistic scenario with all the money invested in the guy the last thing ownership wants to year from the new regime is to cut the guy they invested in 160 mill in instead I’m sure The regime is saying we can do this to get better results out of him.

Davis is uninterested in working. Hard to blame him. Baseball is hard. He has 161 million dollars whether he’s good or bad...

    why work?

I’ll wait to pass judgement. He has bulked up which obviously required some effort or work on his part, but did he do his own thing or did he take direction from the organization? Hopefully he found motivation somewhere to put in the work. However he hasn’t shown over the last couple years since the contract that he’s willing hopefully  he found that willingness. If so it should show this spring in camp.

I did not insinuate that the guy was lying, although never forget, he is a company man. However, the question remains valid. If Mike is in control of Davis, why is Davis still here, when it is obvious that one, the money is spent, and two, Davis isn’t going to get better. He is nothing but an embarrassment.

edit: and we can ALWAYS use an extra roster spot. When a spot is held by a useless player, anybody else, regardless of position, would be an improvement.

The new regime has now had full year observing and gaining data on Chris and others. Now they have a full off season implanting and suggesting he needs to work on something they did not have last year. I think they’ll give him the chance this year to see if he can’t improve maybe not even the full year and if they don’t they’ll cut ties.

  8. I have hope that now having a full season under his belt and this offseason with new regime that some respectable hitting especially the long ball will come back. Grant it I imagine he’ll still strike out at alarming rate but if his contact fly ball ratio could stay the same and those fly balls from last year and yr before can again turn into homeruns we could be in for a surprise. I have a lot of faith Sig and hope Davis listened to suggestions.

  9. Would love to see us sign Holt. Solid glove, can play third, hits for a good avg and gets on base at a pretty high clip.

I can’t see him cost much more than 3 million so he comes rather inexpensive.

Has anyone heard any chatter of him being linked to us?
