    Obviously they aren't.

That's the market.  That's the cost of doing business.

I went to the store this morning.

I didn't say the price of these eggs is ludicrous, even if it has doubled in the last couple of years.

I needed eggs so I bought eggs.

No reason to think eggs are going to cost any less the next time I go to the store and while I can use an egg substitute it isn't as good and it's a lot more work.

Yeah but we already got eggs. Might not be grade A but we got them.

  2. Angelos is not going to spend millions of dollars on long term contracts on the top tier guys and I can’t say I blame him many of those contracts if not all were ludicrous.

As far as the mid tier FA while certainly more reasonable many we’re still multi year deals and still quite expensive. I believe Elias believes in our guys and believes he can get similar production from guys already on the roster or on the way and at a fraction of the cost.

I would be curious to hear Sig’s take on the Gibson, Frazier and minor league signings. Is there something him and his team see that leads them to believe we can get better production out of those guys.

  3. Miami is the probably our most ideal trading partner along with everybody else’s. They have a pretty good surplus of young talented pitching. Alcantara is rumored to be untouchable but Lopez and Lozarda are supposedly available and would be upgrades over what we already have.

  4. As far as the Braves go no I doubt their a good fit but I do think the Marlins are with a guy like Lopez whose what making around 3 mill and is under control for a couple years. That makes more since to me but he’s probably going to cost an awful lot and I imagine the marlins asking price has gone up after this offseason.

  5. It sure has been depressing. I mean you would think ownership after seeing how close we are to being serious contenders would be willing to make some financial long term commitments to a couple guys that would more competitive and help close the gap between us and other teams. You’d think they’d want to garner some excitement to generate more revenue by putting more butts in the seats and selling more merchandise. Instead we get remarks from ownership stating they’ll spend more wants there more butts in the seats.

I think the 90’s with signing guys like Alamar, Palmerio Tejeda etc. The Bedard Trade it seemed like Angelos was more committed to fielding a winning baseball club than he is today.

Personally I’m of the thinking their intentionally keeping payroll low and don’t want to add any major liabilities because the sons plan on selling the team as soon as Peter dies.

  6. I think we learn a lot about this young club this year. Was last year a fluke and we see regression from our young pitching that contributed mightily to our success last year or do they build upon that success? Does Hays and Mountcastle rebound? Will this be developmental learning year for G-Rod or does dominate like he’s capable of? What about Hall  is his command improved enough to warrant a spot in the rotation? Gunnar Henderson, Mateo, Urias where do they play? Stowers plate disciplined improve enough that he deserves everyday playing time? How much of an impact will Westburg have? Is his ready to seize the 2nd base job?

I think this team still has a lot of unanswered questions.

Elias has got to be looking for a way out at this point. He has built the organization into something special from almost nothing and once it’s time to make that step, there is no green light. I have a hard time being mad at how Elias is handling this. I feel like he may have been under the impression that he could make some moves but it feels pretty obvious that ownership has somehow nixed that. The type of language that Elias has used since the Winter Meetings sounds like damage control. I can’t imagine someone in his position doesn’t realize that now is literally the best time to spend.

Either that or he is an idiot and I don’t believe that for a second. It’ll be interesting to see what he does with the next club he works with, assuming they aren’t cheap liars like O’s ownership.

I fully anticipate Astro's Owner Jim Crane to come calling. The media has already reported his interest in Sig but I'd bet he'll be checking in on Elias as well especially  if he can get him out of his contract with the O's.

I guess where I'm at as an O's fan, is that I'm hoping that when Peter dies, that MLB forces the sale of the O's.  Then finally the O's will have an owner who has winning as his #1 goal instead of pocketing millions.

It wouldn't surprise me if they didn't already have a buyer lined up frankly I'd be more surprised if they didn't.

  9. The marlins when they trade Lopez are going to get a hefty haul. His demand is skyrocketing with all these long lofty contracts. All your small & mid market teams will all be competing for his services driving up the price because they refuse or can't compete with the larger market clubs in free agency, but at the end  of the day he'll get traded to the  yankees or the dodgers of the world  because they will be more willing to part with their best prospects because their  not as dependent on them as say the orioles.
