The Orioles are not acquiring a guy that’s due to make 40+ million next year. Full stop.
The Mets will likely pay at least half depending on the prospect they get back.

Piggybacking this, the Cubs won their 8th in a row and are now 3.5 out of the division and 3 out of the WC, so it's extremely unlikely they'll be selling.

So the Rangers traded a Top 50 prospect for a 39 year old rental with a 4 ERA, who they still have to pay 15M? And they may also have to pay this guy 43M next year, which they want to do. But he wants to retain flexibility to opt out and possibly get more than 43M? Rangers are a joke organization in many ways, but I am envious of their owner’s willingness to spend.
No. The Rangers pay 22.5M, the Mets pay everything else.

Looks like the Scherzer deal might be dead. Rangers want Max's 2024 option guaranteed, but he wants it to remain an option. Met fans are pissed.

Really sounds like it's going to be Luisangel Acuna and Thomas Saggese which is a significant haul for an aging Scherzer

I don't get being upset about owners that spend money on players instead of pocketing the profits.
I will say that Moreno appears to meddle a lot and is pretty easy to root against.
Yeah he's a terrible owner, but it would be fun, and great for the game, to see Trout/Ohtani in the playoffs. I promise you MLB desperately wants them in.

They lost their last two including Giolitos last start. Arte Moreno and team couldn’t put a playoff team together with a 200+ million payroll and now they had to trade future assets for more. I hope they don’t make the playoffs. That’s what the hell I’m talking about.
I've never understood actively rooting against teams that have historically been bad, especially if they aren't even in your division. Like who roots against the Pirates, Tigers or Rockies?

Luisangel Acuna not in the lineup and Brock Porter pulled after 3 scoreless innings. That would be a huge haul.

No Porter or Walcott apparently

If the rumors are true that’s 3 top 100 prospects in Acuna, Walcott, and Porter.
Mets may be taking on some of the pay to get better haul.
Porter made his start.

Why would the Marlins want to trade him?
Maybe they hate guys with absolutely electric arms, who are a command tweak away from being a frontline starter?

I wouldn't do Westburg for ECab, but the fish do need infield help.
Would we do Edward Cabrera for Ramon Urias + X non-top 100 prospects?
Would Baltimore? Absolutely. Would Miami? Not a chance.

The crew on The Fan seem to think we passed on him because we're going after bigger fish. Just their opinion, no sources.
Those rankings were severely out of date

I've seen nothing that indicates Vargas is as highly valued as Basallo. And certainly you've shown nothing showing that. They're prospects, and things can happen along the way in their development, so either or both may be a huge success or either or both can fail, but right now Basalla is the more valuable prospect according to pretty much everyone. That's no knock on Vargas, it's simply the way it is. Why you chose to push the issue and make a claim that no one else is making concerning their relative values only you can answer, but, as I said, I don't find it credible.
Number 1, I never said he had more or the same value as Basallo. I said "Vargas has huge helium, and isn't that far off from giving up Basallo. One of the guys at Baseball Prospectus wanted him in their top 50." In another thread I posted a tweet which I'll post again.
I don't know what your deal is or why you're coming in here looking for a fight, but if he's a prospect in the running for top 50, as is suggested above, then their values are not terribly different. Frankly I'm not sure why I even bothered to summarize this for you since you weren't looking for an honest discussion from the beginning anyway.

This doesn't do much for your credibility.
They got two nice looking young prospects and they didn't have to eat any of Robertson's salary. Good deal. As much value as Basallo? Umm... no.
Or maybe you could read more. I already posted a tweet showing a guy from Baseball Prospectus saying Vargas is in the discussion for top 50 at the end of the year, but way to come in taking shots.

You're all wrong, this was a significant package. The rankings you're looking st are severely out of date.

This is 100% wrong. Vargas has huge helium, and isn't that far off from giving up Basallo. One of the guys at Baseball Prospectus wanted him in their top 50.

Ohtani proceeds to immediately through a complete game 1 hitter the day after the Angels pull him off the market. He's kind of good.

We are going to get Lance Lynn. A 36 year old who is awful this year but Elias has "I can fix you" syndrome just because his k rate his up. Well so is his ERA, WHIP, hits allowed, and HR allowed
He's actually still quite good against righties(.658OPS), but he has been an unmitigated disaster against lefties(1.037OPS). Unless someone sees something they think they can instantly fix, I'd guess he'd be a pen guy.
