Absolutely snakebit man.
-
Wasn't expecting that to be overturned.
-
I get trying the change up, but if it isn't working, Burnes has to adapt. He is wasting too many pitches using it.
-
I'm honestly starting to get worried about guys like Adley and our prospects. If these guys don't pan out we aren't going to be a successful franchise for a while.
There's no reason why the offense should be this bad right now.
-
All is well now. Burnes gave up one earned even though he didn't have his best stuff. I hope this boosts his confidence, because he is an ace when he is on. Bats finally came through too.
-
So I'm wondering if this drives down his asking price a bit. If Burnes would sign for 5/150 would you do it? I think this is an aberration recently.
-
Burnes and Rutschman have got to be better in order for us to have a shot in the playoffs, but situational hitting has been a consistent problem too. Not sure how we win if we don't hit homers.
We struggle against bad teams too, so I'm not seeing a sweep in this series.

The problem is that Santander isn't good defensively now, and that will continue to decline in the future. His speed isn't good now, and will only decline. It's not like he provides hitting for a high average or OBP either. In the event he stops hitting HR's he's a guy that wouldn't be on a roster for any other reason. That scares me, just like Trumbo.

It will be hard to make the playoffs with the roster we currently have. If we make it we can't do worse than last year at least.
-
I think we let Adley go after this contract. He's a really good catcher, but his defense seems to have regressed overall, and I think we are wary of giving a catcher a long term contract later in their career. His OBP is down quite a bit, and I really don't care for his new approach at the plate. I wouldn't feel comfortable paying him $30 million a year or more, which I think is what he will command.

We should be able to close this out. Wonder who will close it out.
-
Fairbanks is just much better than anyone we have in the bullpen. 99 with control, and has two offspeed pitches.
-
Fairbanks is pitching out of his mind recently. This game is probably over 1-2-3.
-
I'm going to go ahead and blame the bullpen coaches somewhat here too. They've got to see what we do in the pen with the lack of control and velocity. I guess we just have nobody else to throw out there. I'd rather almost anyone than Kimbrel though. I never like losing.....losing because you walk everyone and allow guys to run all over you is even more difficult.
-
He's given up one single all inning. Unbelievable. Rutschman and Kimbrel have now given up four stolen bases.
-
Look, I'm just not seeing it "stuff" wise from Kimbrel now either. He can't get his breaking ball over, he has no fastball command, and his velocity isn't special either.
-
1-2 count and walks him, that's so frustrating. The last pitch wasn't close.
-
Rutschman looks like he put on some weight. He might need to work on conditioning, it's a long season and being a catcher is brutal.
-
Jimenez missed an 88 mph meatball, that might have been the pitch to hit.
-
Mullins with another great play. If you can get him cheap next year, please resign him!
-
Fairbanks looked great, wish we had someone like him.
-
I think many of us watched this team through some truly awful years, and some truly awful pitching. Being in first place for the moment is awesome. Sometimes I just have to take a step back and enjoy the team. It becomes way too easy for me to complain when my expectations are higher than they probably should be.
I don't think any bullpen implosion will hurt worse than Armando Benitez in the playoffs against Cleveland!
-
Urias just made up for it!

It's hard to downgrade from this year's Hays, but the O's managed to do it.
Hays is on the DL which is a pattern with him. The guy has just never managed to stay healthy long term, and he wasn't going to be in our future plans.
Who is going to end up the best career catcher? Wieters or Rutschmann.

Hard to say, clearly Adley has time on his side. I'm expecting him to heal from whatever injury he has by next year of course. Part of it could also be the new hitting approach, which I don't like.
Defensively I was always very comfortable with Wieters behind the plate, although career wise I expected him to hit more. If Adley doesn't return to form then I'd be lying if I said that I wasn't somewhat disappointed with his career and Wieters as well.
At some point for our team to win a World Seies our most touted players actually need to live up to the hype for a long time period.
