  1. I don't buy that Harvey is deliberately throwing at his old friends/former teammates, when our teams only play each other 4 games a season.  Doesn't make a ton of sense.

I mean why didn't the Nats bunt their guy? When we failed to score, a bunt and sac fly wins it.

Oh, I got you.  That's a good question.  The sacrifice only increases the chance to score a run from ~63% to ~67%, but they only need one run.  Maybe they liked the match up they were getting with that leadoff hitter?

My understanding is that due to the ghost runner rules, it's statistically disadvantageous for the away team to bunt the guy to third.

Away team has to try to score multiple runs, and the sacrifice increases the chance of scoring one, but shrinks the chances of scoring multiple.

  4. That was practically ball game.  Historically, a home team who starts their half of an extra inning tied, with a guy on second and no one out wins ~82% of the time.

Kimbrel needs to retire. If he won't, we need to release him.

If we don't want to release him, here are some useful things he can do with his abilities:

    • Mop-up man. Pitch a few innings when the O's are down by 6 or more runs.
    • Ball boy.
    • Bullpen catcher.
    • Minor league bench coach.
    • Aberdeen Ironbirds assistant pitching coach.
    • Oriole Bird mascot (wear the suit).

Sadly, we paid him entirely too much money for them to consider cutting him.  But yes, he needs to be removed from the closer role ASAP.  Literally anyone else would be better.

He had the MASN camera man fooled too!

I was just wondering where the ball was, because Rosario looked like an outfielder who'd totally lost a ball, not an outfielder who was tracking one  😆

    Holliday bomb!

Hopefully getting used to any swing adjustments he's working on.  O's have an off game tomorrow, I was hoping to catch the Tides game instead to see how he looks, but they have some weird thing with their schedule where all their Thursday games are at noon for some reason.

Some really lazy looking swings from Mullins. Obviously not seeing the ball. It’s like he’s just waving his bat through the zone.

He's been absolutely lost versus LHP recently.  Hopefully he can figure it out.

Note the pitch that got O’Hearn and Hyde thrown out of the game.  Not the worst call of the day, but one of them.

That was Hyder trusting that O'Hearn was seeing it correctly, but I know Hyder gets super steamed when we get clearly impacted by high or low pitches.   You can't always catch inside outside from the dugout, but up and down is visible and obvious.

  10. Robo-umps are simply not going to be an optional thing.  They're going to have to be incorporated into the game in some aspect or another.

This has been the worst season in memory for terrible ump calls in baseball, and fans all over the league are reaching their boiling point.  MLB continues to ignore this issue at its own peril.

I stopped paying attention to it after they got swept in the playoffs.  I don't care if it was a non regular season series, it's still a sweep.

I keep seeing people saying this here and there, but... ALL stats are divided up by regular season and post season.   If you're going to track anything statistical in baseball that way, then why should this be any different?

    What has happened to Gunnar?

A slump.  He's the 12,358th major league player in history to go through one.

  13. One of the few times I agree with throwing over the third attempt.  If you can't hold a guy on who's got a 90%+ stolen base success rate, that dude is practically already standing on second anyway.  May as well make one more throw over and try to surprise him.

What a a battle by Cedric Mullins.

Even with the flyout, that helps a lot.  We needed someone to make this guy throw ten pitches in an at bat.

Did I read somewhere that the Os starting pitcher picks the unis?  Burnes has been in the black city connect quite a bit IIRC.

They don't choose when they wear the City Connects, they are pre-scheduled for specific games.

Trevor Williams are mowing us down.  After a travel day and an off day, we may not score today.

Or the bullpen will enter the game later and they'll score a bunch, as we've seen these guys do many, many times.
