1. Although generally a well tolerated procedure as surgeries go, make no mistake. This is major surgery and there have been occasional disasters. But, the ultimate question is the rehab and return to function. The best studies have identified about 80 percent of major league pitchers who undergo TJ surgery return to their prior level of functioning (i.e. at a major league level). https://sciencelife.uchospitals.edu/2014/03/04/do-major-league-pitchers-throw-as-hard-after-tommy-john-surgery/
2. With today's loss bringing us to 53-37 and 72 games remaining, then just going 37-35 takes us to 90 wins. 41-31 the rest of the way takes us to 94 which is what I predict. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
3. Little comparison between those two teams, imho. Cal led that team with 25 HRs for the entire season. Trumbo already has 27. Third base on that team was split between Floyd Rayford and Tom O'Malley. Manny is a bit better than those two. Jonathan Schoop vs. Alan Wiggins??? please. Their starting rotation of Boddicker, Flanagan, Davis, McGregor, Ken Dixon was mediocre at the time but all had ERAs under 5 and Storm was under 4. As a group their starters were a little better than ours though Tillman is a better performer this year than any of the 1986 group. Our bullpen is light years better than the 1986 group. Don Aase is nowhere near Zach. Their next group of Rich Bordi, Brad Havens, Nate Snell, Odell Jones are not comparable to O'Day (when back), Brach, Bundy, Givens at all. I also think their offense was nowhere near as good as this group. They scored 707 runs in the entire season and we are on a pace to score 830, almost a run more per game. This team may yet be able to overcome terrible pitching from 4 and 5 slots with their offense, defense. The 1986 group overplayed in the first half and fell to their talent level in the second half, imho.
4. Pretty unusual for one team to have played 4 more games at the ASB than the other. Orioles will have played 87 and the Jays 91 at the break. So this business about the Jays catching us by the break is really a bit of a red herring. They are 3 games back in the loss column as of tonight's games.
5. That's why they sent us Chris Davis. And the guy they traded him for kicked dirt in their face. Texas will never win a title. Trying to save Dyson cost them big time. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
6. Chance blown to get out in front. Worst two losses of the year. This opportunity blown will be significant at the end of the year. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

9. It is the problem with any type of drug monitoring. If your system is not close to foolproof, then, really, what is the point? Too bad that it is not a better system. And, in the interim, any player who performs beyond expectations beyond a certain age or with increased power is going to be suspect by fans of other teams. And the roots of it all come back to the obscene amounts of money, of course.
10. We went wire-to-wire in April. There's that.
11. I don't know. When I was this kid's age, I never strained a groin nor did I never play any ball with anyone who ever strained a groin. Maybe we exercised our groins more back then...unknowingly... And look at Cal, he never strained his groin. He must have been working it out a lot. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

13. Me too. This one will turn out to be a disastrous decision by DD. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
14. I agree. It was very encouraging to see Nick turn on a Jose Fernandez 97 mph first pitch and pound it into right center stands last week. Maybe his power and strength continued to improve during the subtle, longer parts of his recovery process. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
15. An argument can be made that deals (particularly trade deadline) are not DD's forte. Arrieta, Strop for Feldman Hader, Hoes for Norris Eduardo for Miller Davies for Parra Two genuine big league starters and two likely 2016 big league starters will be pitching for other teams. And we will have....no return at big league or prospect level. While I supported and still support the Miller acquisition as truly going for it last year, and I even understood the Arrieta deal at the time, this deal is not one that I support. I think it continues a depletion of pitching prospects in our system particularly since our two top prospects both have arm concerns. And I do not think it makes getting to wild card or playoffs this season substantially more likely than with our current group of position players.
16. And now Feldman is out for at least six weeks with torn meniscus. Too bad it was not before he pitched against us. Wonder if they would have any interest in a Bud reunion? http://blog.chron.com/ultimateastros/2015/05/29/scott-feldman-placed-on-15-day-dl-after-knee-surgery/#31931101=0
17. I think Wieters in his walk year is going to be exponentially better than the Joseph/Hundley 2014 production. And a healthy Machado in 2015 upgrades Flaherty/paredes etc 2014 production. And Chris Davis will be in the most important year of his career..any uptick at all towards 2013 would certainly be much more production than we got in 2014 and would also replace some of Cruz 2014 production. Throw in an unexpected 2015 year like, say, a breakout year for Schoop. All of these have to be essentially noncontributors for us to truly be worse in 2015 without Cruz. And Cruz of 2015 will be likely worse than the Cruz of 2014. And we may still yet add a bat in the offseason. DD has a plan and plans involve a budget process and a valuation process and not wavering when the dollars go up beyond what you believe the player value to be. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
18. Thanks for all the information!!! I will take a September just like August, thank you!!
19. James Johnson. Not much different. Now stinking for the Toledo Mud Hens. One inning, two runs, an error on a throw, two doubles. http://www.detroitnews.com/article/20140808/SPORTS0104/308080119/0/sports0104/Jim-Johnson-shaky-his-debut-Mud-Hens
20. Oops. Sorry, brain collapse. Forgot the trade, obviously. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
21. So the Cubs rotation that will take them places is Arrieta, Hammel, Wada with Strop in the pen. I think not. lol. Good for him making it back to the big leagues, though!! But I think big league hitters will pretty quickly figure out that 25 cent, back door slider and be pounding him like they did in AAA.
22.

Roy,

I received the items today in the mail!!! Thanks so much! The photograph is also great. I noticed that the flags above Memorial Stadium in that photo of Boog were flying at half staff- Would you have any idea why that would have been? I am planning to go to the Cardinals series in August (although I may get up there to some other games before the season is out).
