The Athletic power ranking kept us exactly the same as previous despite an 8 game winning streak. We are still behind Rangers, Diamondbacks , Dodgers… and of course Braves and Rays So let’s see.. maybe a sweep of Dodgers and four wins at the Trop will garner some respect

Yes Moreno has money but he has created a very dysfunctional organization ..

It won’t require “emptying the farm” . Rays could get it done easiest given their depth, Yankees could too though it would be much more emptying of their depleted system, Dodgers could but appears they are not . Astros could, Rangers could , Red Sox could. And we could too of course. Don’t mistake though .. I do not want us to do it it it costs anywhere what is being suggested. I think his price ends up less than you assume. In fact, I will predict thst when the deal is done, we will look at it and many here will say “Gosh, we could have beaten that.” It is my opinion that Ohtani values winning more than all the other factors and spending the last 5 years with these perennial losers will not convince him to sign up for more.

I disagree that the Angels have “as much a chance” as any. I think the Angels have virtually zero chance of resigning him. Angels are losers, they have not had a winning record since 2015 despite having both Trout and Ohtani. They finished over 30 games behind Houston .. twice.. with both stars. Their organization is a mess and they are not competitive with Houston, Texas or Seattle over next five years imho. I think Ohtani is sick of losing and will not risk more of the same. If he does, then he can be the finest player in history never to have a winning record. No, he will not be an Angel imho. As to what teams would pay him stupid money and stupid contract? Well everyone knows who those organizations are.

I agree with most of this!! Excellent post. The only way teams now can have runs of playoff and WS appearances is to build the core from the draft -Houston, Tampa Bay etc. The Yankees can do things other teams cannot do … my real fear us they can Cashman and steal Elias. When I grew up, the Yankees were awful .. Ralph Houk, Horace Clarke last place awful. The Red Sox won in 67 and had competitive teams and WS appearance in the 1970s. The Orioles and the As were the dynasties. But yes, everything is different now!!

Over 162 games , yes. But baseball has had many stars who slump a bit when traded or in playoffs or World Series. It is high risk if the price is as is being reported. plus the MFYs could resurrect Babe Ruth.. they are not going anywhere the rest of this season.

In the incredibly SSS category .. Ohtani has hit .143 lifetime at Yankee Stadium and .245 lifetime at Camden Yards and .261 at Fenway but .348 at the Trop lol

Well if multiple top 100 prospects is the price .. I would pass But Yankees have 41st and 79th - Jasson Dominguez and Austin Wells as their only two .. so if they want to ship them off for a couple months rental where the NY media gets to Ohtani and he slumps and they still finish 4th . That would be excellent!! Similar results for Red Sox would be good too!!
