  1. Don’t like the splitter up there. FB at 101 right there again please.
  2. I was speaking more to the situation in which he found himself. He did, however, give up a double that inning. He did well to end the inning without allowing a run.
  3. Since pitching into trouble in the 2nd this may be the best I remember seeing Lyles pitch.
  4. Well, on the bright side McKenna had a nice game and Watkins pitched well after the first.
  5. Pretty good AB, fouled off some tough pitches.
  6. I’d like it to be Santander and then have a hot July so they get a decent return.
  7. Someone must’ve told Bautista to use the splitter “occasionally” if at all. The splitter looks a lot better when they’re trying to hit off 100 mph.
  8. Brown kept saying Ryan had a an unusual delivery, he really didn’t. He has a wind up (which is rare these days, but used to be commonplace) and his arm action is a bit long. So, you could say that is unusual. But Thielbar separates his hands and brings them back together which is a very unusual “delivery” and Brown doesn’t mention it.
  9. I’m not a big fan of his defense, but he does a good job of that.
  10. These fans are watching a “great” performance by the umpire. I’m sure that’s why they came.
  11. Anyone else read (I think it was Fangraphs) that Perez has an expected ERA of 5.12? Lot of hard contact.
  12. He’s proven he can hit ML pitching, it’s a valuable commodity. But even his best skill would be enhanced if he had more plate discipline. If he brings back someone who is relatively the same age at a position of need I make the best move for the team. For the Orioles, who Elias has said need a pipeline of controllable talent, guys like Stowers, Westburg and Henderson fit that bill. And they all play more important roles defensively than Mountcastle. As I’ve said, I like RM, but in the right deal he’s gone.
  13. Agreed, but RM plays 1B, positionally it’s not that valuable and he’s average at best. He’s one dimensional. He may get better over there, but I wouldn’t count on it. Would you really be against a similarly aged pitcher, also cost controlled in trade? It fits your criteria, right? Maybe it isn’t available but I’d be willing to do that. And, as stated, that trade brings back much more than would Mancini. Didn’t realize RM is off limits for you.
  14. Yeah, almost the same thing.
  15. Yes, I meant Mayo. And of course it would have to be the right trade. I like RM’s bat, but I’m not tied to him like I am with some of the other guys coming up. My point is Mancini has limited value in trade. Whereas RM could get them a nice piece, like a pitcher in the example you made.
  16. Here’s a radical idea, trade RM and keep Mancini at 1B. Mancini is a better fielder and more valuable this year (1.6 to 1.1 rWAR). RM would surely bring more in trade because some GM will be mesmerized by the power and his youth. Mancini would be even more valuable if Hyde would stop playing him in the OF. And he may be one of those guys who’s more valuable to the Orioles than another team. In a couple years they likely have someone coming up to take over for Mancini, maybe Baumler if the glove won’t play at third, Kjerstad, heck even Diaz. Might be motivation for him knowing his hamstrings hold up better without all the running in the OF.
