On April 11, the Mariners were 13-2 and were the toast of baseball. Not only did they have a gaudy record, they were leading the league in many statistical categories. On May 11, the Mariners are below .500. Crazy game.

I wish more hitters could pitch. It would really make the game more interesting, with more strategy.

"Don't hate the player, hate the game." Here I go with hate again, sorry. What I mean is there is a reason there is a committee and it's not just the baseball writers' call.

"Hate" was used in the internet slang sense. To me, the fact that Baines was voted in over many players with larger WAR appears to discredit WAR not Baines.

This thing with Davis is a statistical anomaly. He hasn't just broken the record, he smashed it by almost 10 ABs and counting. In a sport with this long a history this is unheard of.

I don't get the hate for HB. He was great as an Oriole. Professional hitter. No-nonsense guy, kept to himself, and just hit the ball consistently.

Davis always had holes in his swing even when he was hitting 50 HRs. The Ks were always too high. It was all there and you thought that baseball professionals would have seen it coming.

The shame in all of this is that if they had just mediocre pitching and if Davis was providing just 2 WAR this would be a team in the hunt.
