  1. It doesn't bother you that OUR team, one that has been absent (re. clueless) from this market, suddenly, now, with a mere change of "who's in charge" knows enough to invest in trading a controlled asset - AND a salary dump - to acquire money to invest where they have NO presence? Come on. This ownership is clueless about how to run a MLB team. They change course like the wind. Old Pete has always had final say, after all. Now the son(s)... I think trading assets is the way to go, but this one, in particular, could have been done in the winter like Cobb and Cashner will be. Ultimately, it is a salary dump. What kind of international money and a prospect or two would have been gained w/o O'Day in the deal? Sometimes you gotta eat bad investments................
  2. This is what scares me most about anything "new" that appears to be going on. This is something that could have been done with some patience and thought during the off-season. Of course there was speculation that he might be traded, but not that O'Day was going to be part of it. That negated any decent prospects, yet the aim seems to be international money. I'm just worried about quick decisions. Chris Davis was a quick decision. Bad. Now, after having no presence in the International Market suddenly we are going to be huge players. This FO has no identity, no organization. Other than whoever being in charge making the "final decision." I remain very skeptical. For me, the jury is out on whether this was a good deal. But my feeling is it was hasty and we probably could have done better.
  3. Call it a deficiency if you like. Yet in the years where he was an injury fill-in and speller, his DEF was what kept him in there while the bats on the rest of the team filled his void at the plate. Those IF's were among the league leaders. This year, with our failures both at the plate and defensively, his OFF would have looked even worse for sure. But our 27th in the league in IF efficiency (read it here someplace...) would have likely been a lot better, I'd say.
  4. Flare Dog replacing any of the injured IF guys early on would have been better continuity defensively than any of the dumpster dives that were in there. You don't merely shrug off a quality IF glove. Especially one that has worked with the players still there in the past. Our IF DEF was dreadful all year and worse with injuries. Ryan gets a bad rap because he's a sub par bat. His fill-ins and JJ's absence in the IF this year have been underappreciated.
  5. I wish Flare-dog nothing but success. Love that guy. I wish he was having it here.
  6. Booing Davis or Ubaldo or any of "your own" is more akin to a fatherly kick in the pants...
  7. Personally, I like Davis too. Seems like a cool guy. But .088 is not acceptable. A 1-11 batter cannot remain in the lineup. If we wanna win, the Angeloses are going to have to admire their investment sitting on the bench.
  8. If this is a trend, where the organization - thru Buck with knocking a prospect down a peg - is going to start with plate discipline, I think it's a positive move. I understand the argument of opportunity costs with good pitches, but there is a ton of free swinging. I'm especially concerned each year when we have a good starter on the ropes and struggling to find the strike zone and many of our guys march up there first pitch swinging. It drives me crazy. I think Buck's account at the presser included a bit of levity for the press and his criticism was likely a little more pointed to the kid. Hopefully, anyway.
