I keep thinking back to the winter when Elias said he was losing sleep trying to figure out SS/infield options. And he proceeded to claim a million infielders and select one in the Rule 5 draft. That has always made me wonder if he prefers Witt in this draft to get some semblance of MIF talent in the organization.

Quality post, I've had similar thoughts but am hoping he addresses this by taking some SS/infield guys in the second round and below. AR and then Mathew Lugo (Puerto Rico Academy #1 Prospect) is my dream scenario

  2. It will be interesting to see what the orioles do with that second pick. Do they go college arm and add to the group of Gray-ROD, knight, and D.L. (who should all reach the Orioles at around the same time)?

Do they go after another H.S. pitcher and continue to tier pitching throughout the system?

Do they go H.S. or college Bat and try to infuse some position player talent into a farm system that is very dry in that category?

Of guys on the mock, the early second round lines up relatively close to how I have guys ranked.

Guys that I really like include Sikkema, Dasan Brown, Baum, and Spencer Jones. If Spencer Jones is signable there, even overslot, that’s a steal.

As the Orioles drafting in the second round, would they be drafting spencer jones as a first baseman or a LHP? Has this spring filtered him into one direction or the other positonally?

Remember the Dodgers had signed Álvarez as a lottery ticket, when they traded him away he was still a lottery ticket. Plus the Dodgers are always awash with good prospects, they can easily afford to give away somebody who has legitimate potential. Plus, Alverez Was just a kid. Compared to me, 27 is still just a kid but by baseball terms it’s almost middle-age. I just don’t think Mancini has significant value. Was just a kid. Although he’s done amazingly well for a guy who is drafted 249th.

I'm not comparing mancini to alverez, im comparing mancini to josh fields. You helped prove my point. I wouldn't be surprised if ME traded some guys for young lottery tickets this summer.

  5. In 2016 the Astros traded josh fields, who had a 6-something era at the time, to the dodgers for  Yordan Alverez who they had just signed at the beginning of the international signing period. Yordan is now the astros #3 ranked prospect, #42 in top-100 rankings.

I think mancini will have better value than a 6-something era, but I will not be surprised at all if ME does something similar this year.
