"...Adley Rutschman has already cemented himself as a cornerstone of the Orioles franchise and is just beginning his upward trajectory towards superstardom. His value is only going to increase and it would be prudent for Elias to attempt to secure Rutschman long term now before the cost grows and the temptation of free agency becomes too much to resist..."
How much would an Adley Rutschman contract extension cost the Orioles? (birdswatcher.com)

He looks really haggard in that photo. Yikes.
Leaping to the #1/#2 prospect had an "Emperor Palpatine" impact on him.

Kind of an odd/fun write-up for Westburg in that list. The "bad" is almost as good as the "good." I'll take it.
67. Jordan Westburg, SS/3B, Baltimore Orioles
The Good: Westburg is as consistent as they come, and he’s just hit since he turned pro out of Mississippi State. In fact, the entire package is a bucket of 50s and 55s. He’s an above average hitter with a strong approach, and should hit for power, play defense and run at an average clip.
The Bad: What he lacks here in superstar ceiling he makes up for in easy floor. He might end up handing the shortstop position to Gunnar Henderson, but the skills and baseball I.Q. are high enough that he can slide in anywhere on the dirt.

Grounded out in AB # 2. He’s a bust.
Probably should have Tony update his rankings.

I remember playing a cassette tape of that album in my car mile after mile. When was that, the mid-late 80s? Thanks for taking me back.

How often does an organization have the number one guy two years in a row, and it’s two different guys?
or was Witt #1 for BA last year?
How often has a team drafted two eventual #1 guys in the same draft?

The Orioles Actually Have a Shot at Acquiring Juan Soto (birdswatcher.com)
Interesting hypotheticals:
1) Mullins, Bradish, Hall, Stowers, and Westburg for Soto and Corbin, and
2) Henderson and Rodriguez for Soto and Corbin.
Both "offers" seem far less than what the Nats say they want.

Adley Rutschman's Catching influence on the 2022 Orioles (birdswatcher.com)
What is most significant is the belief around the pitching staff when Rutschman is behind the plate and how well pitches are framed around the zone. The game revolves around the catcher and the Orioles now have a player they can build a team around.

From Live Q&A today with Keith Law at "The Athletic"
QuoteThomas Clocker C.
I read comments about O's pick Beavers having a swing that needs fixing. Sounds like the same comments when they took college bat DJ Stewart and that pick went no where. How worried should I be about Beavers ability to make the necessary adjustments to succeed? He appears to be more athletic than Stewart.
QuoteKeith Law
Totally different regime, though. I like Beavers more than Stewart at the same age, also.

How Florida’s Jud Fabian fixed his strikeout rate before the MLB Draft - The Athletic
Still, defense can be Fabian’s carrying skill. And there is even evidence that his offensive profile — if sustained in pro ball — would be enough to earn him a steady job in the major leagues. Fabian won’t turn into Mike Trout, the three-time MVP who combines power and strong defense with a superior ability to bat around .300 and reach base at above-average rates most seasons despite a pedestrian strikeout percentage. But Fabian is a human highlight reel in center and he has enough raw power to project as a 20-plus home run hitter.

Law thinks maybe he ends up at 2nd:
Wagner is a draft-eligible sophomore who was undrafted out of high school in 2020 and hit just .214/.305/.345 as a sparsely-used freshman for Clemson, but he broke out in the Northwoods League last year and carried that into this spring, tying for third in Division I with 27 homers. He shortened up his path to the ball and stays inside it much better now, allowing the Green Bay native to make more contact and drive the ball consistently, with 60-70 power to his pull side and enough to hit a few out the other way. He doesn’t like the ball down, however, and the way his hands start makes him vulnerable to pretty much anything in the lower third of the zone and down.
He’s rough defensively at third and probably ends up in an outfield corner, although he might be better at second base than he is at the hot corner. It’s big power with bat speed for someone looking for an upside play among the college hitters.

Juan Soto trade sweepstakes: What these 10 teams can offer the Nationals - The Athletic
Didn't see this posted here before. A fascinating position for the Nats to be in, and what a COLOSSAL expense (money and in prospects) it would be for anyone who trades for Soto.
We may be in the same position as the Nats if one or more of our young guys are as good as we think they are. Let's hope we're able to reach comparable hauls as these if/when we're faced with an ENORMOUS contract demand by a player.
Adley Rutschman’s “First Half”
in Orioles Talk

Key stat shows how absurdly rapid Adley Rutschman's growth has been (fansided.com)
"...A rookie seeing pitches this well, this early in his career has to make Baltimore feel good about the direction they’re headed in, and the rate of improvement from the beginning of the season to now in picking up pitch location is even more useful. To jump from worse-than-average to near-best is no small feat for a first-year..."
