  1. No, I don’t think he’s got any fantasies about Cal’s record. Might he play all 162 this year? I’m sure it could happen, but if I were Hyde I’d prefer to give him a day off every month or so once the weather heats up.
  2. He can probably do some back to backs, but not 3 in 4 days. If he goes back to back, he needs at least 2 days off.
  3. It kind of got overshadowed by Irvin’s pitching and O’Hearn’s homer, but Adley’s double to break the scoreless tie was just a very professional Adley at bat. He knew his job was to get a deep enough fly ball to get Mateo home, and that’s exactly what he did. It just happened to land in the right spot for a double, but the run was going to score either way. I have the utmost confidence in Adley in a spot like that.
  4. My memory of Nick is that his pet phrase was “you know,” inserted once or twice per sentence. “Yeah, I was, you know, looking for a good pitch, you know, to hit there.”
  5. Obviously he’s not this good, but he’s in a groove now and needs to stay in the rotation. It’s fun to watch him work when he’s locating his stuff well.
  6. Watching that vs. his last couple of outings was like night and day. The O’s need to go out of their way to keep Kimbrel fresh. As I said earlier, no more than 5 outings every two weeks. If that means someone else needs to close some tight games, so be it.
  7. To be clear, it’s an impressive accomplishment.
  8. Good to know. Maybe that explains some of his command issues prior to tonight’s game. For all the ups and downs he’s had this year, he has a 2.89 ERA in a league where the average ERA is 4.95. Hopefully tonight is a bellwether for how the rest of his season will go. He needed an outing like this.
  9. And even fewer at times! On a quick look, Mel Ott hit 10 homers in his team’s first 29 games at age 20.
  10. People do need to realize that the season used to start much later than it now does. Frank Robinson hit 38 homers as a 20-year old rookie, but the season didn’t even start until April 17. I’d bet there are some other players 22 or younger who hit 10 homers in the first 29 games of the year, but the 29 games weren’t played by April 30.
  11. And I hate the Mets with the heat of 1000 burning suns.
  12. The Pirates have pretty much done their penance by generally being even worse than the Orioles in the 21st century. Not easy to do. I have nothing against the Reds. People just need to understand that the 1969-71 O’s were better than any Reds team. their fans are also long-suffering at this point. I disliked that Phillies team and I still dislike the Phillies. Bryce Harper is a great player but I’ve never liked him. We wiped the floor with the Dodgers but I’ve rooted against them ever since. And they’re really annoying now, the way they throw money around. May they never win another playoff series.
  13. The whole “Nick doesn’t work out in the offseason” myth was just made up nonsense based solely on the fact that when Nick would show up for Fsnfest with his Mountain Man beard and be asked what he’d done that offseason, he’d always say he’d done a lot of hunting. News flash: it’s possible to work out and hunt, and hunting is more fun to talk about.
  14. I’m wondering if there’s something physically wrong with him. He’s not the same guy as he’s been the last two years, and not just because he’s now pitching in AAA.

    FCL Orioles 2024

Rolphy Cruz certainly fell hard. Earned a mid-season promotion to Delmarva last year after posting a 1.192 OPS in the FCL, and he’s out of the org less than 11 months later.
