  1. Interesting to see his lack of love for Mayo. I'm a bit surprised.
  2. As soon as everyone in this deal can find a way to line their pockets the best, a deal will get done. This is all just white noise during a great season. I'll focus on the field.
  3. Probably. I mean, we obvious scrutinize every Hyde moves because we are watching them every game, but there is little doubt other managers make some head scratching moves themselves. Now I'll be the first to admit that in game, he has more information than anyone on the situation and players at hand including how they may be feeling along with a team full of smart coaches. We play along because it's fun and we question things because that's what we do as fans, but in the end, wins and losses are the only thing that matters and Hyde always that on his side now. Doesn't really matter overall. He's going nowhere and probably will be either the manager of the year or among the finalists once again.
  4. I think this is a huge key to this team's record IMHO. The offense this year has more consistent contributors vs streaky guys like Mountcastle. Henderson and Rutschman will draw walks even in their "bad streaks" and Hays and Santander seem to be less streaky this year. One of the reasons I was down on Mountcastle was his streakiness because when he's bad, he's an absolute zero at the plate. The hitters the Orioles are now adding are the kinds of guys that find ways to get on base or help the team vs just being complete zeros when they are not doing well. That has helped.
  5. I think there is little doubt Hyde will be in the running for the manager of the year if this keeps up. We obviously see every move and some of his moves are head scratching, but the results are what they are and the results are all that matters at this point.
  6. Ha, the first group is just things you wouldn't have thought in spring training, not necessarily the bad things only, even though obviously those were the "bad things".
  7. Good Lord that's almost too much to ask at this point. lol But man that would be the cherry on top.
  8. So I asked ChatGTP to give ten paragraph essay in why the Orioles system is so good. This is what it came up with. No names, but interesting on what it came up with: Introduction The Baltimore Orioles have long been revered as an esteemed Major League Baseball franchise, with a rich history of success. However, it is their outstanding minor league system that has become the true catalyst for their sustained excellence. Through astute player development, comprehensive scouting efforts, and a commitment to nurturing young talent, the Orioles have established themselves as a model organization for fostering young baseball stars. Paragraph 1: Strong Leadership and Player Development Philosophy One of the key factors behind the Baltimore Orioles' exceptional minor league system is the organization's strong leadership and player development philosophy. The Orioles' management places a significant emphasis on investing in talented coaches and instructors to provide the best training and guidance to their prospects. The emphasis on cultivating a positive learning environment ensures that players can develop their skills to their full potential. Paragraph 2: Robust Scouting Network A crucial element contributing to the success of the Orioles' minor league system is their robust and extensive scouting network. The organization leaves no stone unturned in identifying and recruiting the most promising talents from both the amateur draft and the international market. This dedication to finding hidden gems and unearthing raw talents has helped the Orioles maintain a pipeline of gifted players throughout their minor league affiliates. Paragraph 3: Modern Player Development Facilities The Orioles have invested significantly in state-of-the-art player development facilities, providing their prospects with cutting-edge tools and resources. These facilities include modern training centers, data analytics systems, and advanced technology that enable players to refine their skills and adapt to the rapidly evolving landscape of professional baseball. Paragraph 4: Individualized Coaching Approach The Orioles' minor league coaching staff adopts a personalized approach to player development. Recognizing that each prospect has unique strengths and weaknesses, coaches work closely with players to tailor training programs that address specific areas for improvement. This individualized attention enhances players' overall growth and ensures they are well-prepared for the challenges they will face at higher levels of competition. Paragraph 5: Focus on Character and Leadership Development Beyond honing their on-field abilities, the Orioles' minor league system places a strong emphasis on character and leadership development. Players are encouraged to demonstrate sportsmanship, integrity, and a commitment to community involvement. This emphasis on developing well-rounded individuals contributes to the overall success of the organization both on and off the field. Paragraph 6: Progressive Mental Skills Training Recognizing the mental aspect of the game, the Orioles incorporate progressive mental skills training into their player development program. Players receive guidance on handling pressure, staying focused, and developing resilience in the face of adversity. This mental preparedness enables prospects to thrive under the demanding conditions of professional baseball. Paragraph 7: Collaborative Approach Across Affiliates A cohesive and collaborative approach exists across all levels of the Orioles' minor league affiliates. Coaches, trainers, and front office personnel work in sync to ensure that prospects experience seamless transitions as they progress through the ranks. This unity fosters a sense of belonging and mutual support, which positively impacts players' confidence and performance. Paragraph 8: Proven Track Record of Success The Baltimore Orioles' minor league system boasts a proven track record of success. Over the years, numerous players have been called up to the Major League squad, where they have made significant contributions. This track record serves as a testament to the effectiveness of the organization's player development methods. Paragraph 9: Embracing Advanced Analytics The Orioles have embraced advanced analytics in their player evaluation and development processes. By leveraging data-driven insights, they can identify trends and optimize player performance. The integration of analytics has allowed the Orioles to stay ahead of the curve and make informed decisions when nurturing their prospects. Conclusion In conclusion, the Baltimore Orioles' minor league system stands as a beacon of excellence in Major League Baseball. Through strong leadership, a robust scouting network, modern facilities, and a focus on individualized coaching and character development, the Orioles have managed to consistently produce top-tier talent. By embracing analytics and fostering collaboration among their affiliates, the Orioles have firmly established themselves as a model organization for player development. As they continue to nurture the stars of tomorrow, the Orioles are poised to remain a formidable force in the world of baseball for years to come.
  9. if I told you in spring training that the Orioles would be in 1st place on July 21st but: Cedric Mullins would miss significant time with two stints on the IL Grayson Rodriguez would have 7.33 ERA in 11 starts Kyle Gibson would have a 4.76 ERA in 21 starts Dean Kremer would have a 4.80 ERA in 20 starts Cole Irvin would have a 5.11 ERA in 8 starts, 11 games and spent significant time in AAA Baker (3.83), Perez (4.88), Voth (4.94), and Akin (6.85) all would take steps back from their 2022 performances Mychal Givens would have an 11.25 ERA in just six games over 4 IP Dillon Tate and John Means have not pitched in the majors yet DL Hall would only pitch in only one game at the majors and be in Florida getting reset Ryan Mountcastle would be slashing .233/.268/.424/.692 and lost his job against right-handers to Ryan O'Hearn Aaron Hicks would be starting outfielder for the Orioles Jorge Mateo would be slashing .214/.264/.346/.610 and lost his everyday gig The Yankees would be in last place in the AL East Now, this is not a negative post at all. What I'm trying to show is that it's not like everything has gone right for this team and they are catching lightning in a bottle. This team has overcome injuries and poor performances from players they were counting on coming into the year, yet here they are in first place. Now obviously there are a lot of good stories: The emergence of Felix Bautista as an absolute dominant force at the back of the bullpen Austin Hays slashing .300/.338/.473/.811 Gunnar Henderson slashing .247/.342/.476/.818 Anthony Santander slashing .271/.345/.494/.839 Adley Rutschman slashing .274/.373/.431/.804 The emergence of Ryan O'Hearn, .305/.353/.506/.859 The emergence of Yennier Cano 1.53 ERA over 41 games and 47 IP. Kyle Bradish with a 3.05 ERA in 17 starts Tyler Wells with a 3.54 ERA in 18 starts (19 games) despite giving up 22 HRs Now, the Orioles are playing above their Pythagorean W-L: 53-43, 477 Runs, 429 Runs Allowed by six games, but I just find out it absolutely amazing that this team is in the first place in the hardest division in baseball while everything has not gone perfect. In fact, far from perfect. I really don't even have a theory on why they are doing so well overall other than this team just finds ways to win. And no matter what, I'm going to try and enjoy the ride!
  10. I didn't have an issue with the bringing in Frazier to bunt. First off, he did the job, but with Bautista able to go two innings, all you really need is that one run most likely and if Hyde felt Frazier gave him the best chance to have that runner at 3rd with one out, I'm ok with that.
  11. No doubt this team still needs another top reliever. Just depends on if we can get one without giving up a top 7 or 8 prospect.
  12. I would think so. He may be very important tomorrow if the game is close.
  13. Right, tomorrow's the game where you hope either you get a bunch of runs or just kinda of let you starter stay out there a bit longer than usual. We all want them all though but tomorrow the pen will be short.
  14. Definitely the right way to use the pen by Hyde, but Bautista will not be available tomorrow so if we're going to lose one, tomorrow is the one.
  15. Great job by him for sure. Gets a big K and then gets the 4-6-3 DP.
  16. Oy... Frazier almost didn't get that out ... Great arm by Henderson on that one!!!
  17. Not mad, just trying to understand Hyde's questionable call to pinch hit Mountcastle for Mateo with two outs and no one on losing his best defensive SS.
  18. Why take out your best defensive infield for the miniscule chance Mountcastle runs into one with two outs and no one on in the 10th?
