  1. Man, Weaver can go get it but he has an awful arm.
  2. Been to Pittsburgh and it's a great ballpark. Maybe second to Camden Yards for me.
  3. You have to give Frazier some credit, he really does just take what they give him at times.
  4. I don't know if this is just one of those David Newhan streaks or not, but I'm going to enjoy Hicks' hot streak.
  5. The organization places a heavy emphasis on defense on 2B, SS and 3B which is why Ortiz may hold high value. Ortiz is an elite defender wherever you put him on the dirt. Westburg is an adequate defender on the dirt.
  6. Yep. He started at SS both games even with Leandro Arias on the roster, so clearly they think he's ahead of Arias. The one thing I'll never understand with the Orioles is their insistent on getting low-tier rehab players PAs in these games instead of the new guys. With only one team, you would think they would prioritize guys like Estrada and Tavera instead of the Craig's and Higgins' of the world. I don't think they realize the importance to players psyche when they know they will be in the lineup everyday vs getting a few games a week where a few bad games can start weighing on them.
  7. How do you know this? We know Povich was the key guy, but I'm no sure we know why the other guys were taken or whether they were considered a priority get by the Orioles. It's really just opinion by anyone not involved with the move.
  8. That's an interesting thought. A good catcher should always adjust his game calling and location if he feels he can get an advantage. Some of this probably comes up with good framing numbers for a catcher, but it would be interesting to see if this is catcher specific or team specific as whole.
  9. They just need to learn to follow the outfielders vs the ball flight.
  10. I think this is a great point. Sure, can you just watch the play on the screen, sure, but I want more information from the play that I can't see or pick up from the camera view. The PBP was so bad in SF that I literally thought the announcers were still announcing from Camden Yards off the TV broadcast like during COVID.
  11. The only good reason to dive into first base is to avoid a tag or avoid a collision.
  12. I'd like to see Chayce McDermott sent to AAA and used in a relief role to see how he handles being warmed up quickly, and used on consecutive days. While I understand using pitchers with good stuff as starter's in the minors to help them gain better command and consistency, I do beleive there comes a time when you have to decide what's their best roles. If they decide the guy is a reliever, then they need to start developing him as a reliever, which includes the things I listed above. This is why it's not just easy to take a "failed" starter and make him a successful reliever. There are some different skill sets they need to develop when it comes to warming up and usage. Pitchers like McDermott and Hall have value, but they need to be developed at this point in the roles they will have in the major leagues IMHO. I realize the Orioles seem to not agree.
  13. It's not even the same thing and you really are being quite silly at this point. Maybe you should think about moving on to another subject. You are repeating things that people have clearly showed you is wrong. I mean, feel free to dig in, but man, you are really dying on your sword here.
  14. I have three letters for this comment. W...T...F... Holy crap man. This may be one of the most ludicrous things I've ever heard. Players get hurt all the time. Do you really just want guys out there loafing around when the team is down? I mean I get not diving for balls when the team is down a bunch but running hard? If a professional athlete can't run hard without getting hurt all the time, they probably should not be a professional athlete. Sometimes guys tweak things, it happens. Calling them selfish for trying their best is something I don't think I've ever heard.
  15. I'm not even quite sure how this can be an argument with literal facts like this.
  16. "Live by the bump, die by the bump" - Frobby I think this is a new classic!
  17. I don't know, but I bet she wasn't a Joey Turner Mom!
  18. Good points about Cano's projected usage. I just used the easy way and added his usage in from AAA like it was his usage by the Orioles through the first two weeks vs taking his Orioles usage and extrapolating it out over just the amount of games Cano has been with the Orioles this year. Yours is probably a more accurate assessment. Maybe someone can find a team where five relievers pitched in 70 or more games for a team, but it seems like the Orioles are on some kind of record usage. Whether that's by design (Some new technique fed by data), their abundance of close games, or Hyde's choice, or some variations of the three, it'd definitely seems like something new.
  19. Perhaps that is part of the thinking, but again, unless there is an abundance of replacements, if they get hurt or wear down, it won't be a great strategy. Either way, there is a simple solution. In game where the team is up or down four or more runs, use bulk relievers to cover down on most of the innings.
  20. I think McKenna could be in trouble after Vavra if Hicks is still playing well. Basically when both Mullin and Cowser are ready, someone else has to go. it will be interesting to see who goes because McKenna has hit lefties well. Right now Vavra is dead weight.
  21. I agree, I just said I have hard time understanding her in the few games I've been too over the last few years. I also stated it very well could be the terrible sound system in the sections I've been in as well.
  22. True, but all of them are on point to pitch more this year games and innings wise (Well I'd have to check on innings for Perez). Five pitchers pitching in 70 or more games is unheard of as far as I can tell. Maybe the Orioles are trying something that's never been done before? While I'm ok with giving them the benefit of the doubt, and I hope it works out for them for sure, I will remain concerned over the usage and point out times where they didn't need to use a guy. I get out that guys like Cano need work because sinkerballers tend to get too strong when healthy and you want that late sink. Saying that, there are four other guys getting used pretty darn often as well. I just don't think it's sustainable over the year, but I guess we're going to see.
  23. We've had this discussion. Is it bad luck or do team's know how to position their fielders to get him out? I was going over those huge the bigger swarms of outs at SS, 3B and in RF and each case he hits the ball pretty hard (well over 90 MPH). I think we sometimes get too caught up with EV as the be all end all for good hitting. Sure, hitting ball harder typically gives you a better chance of success (that's shown in the stats) but if you hit a lot of ball to SS and 3B hard, is that bad luck or are you hitting a lot of pitches hard but at poor angles? Looking at his outs in RF, it's not hard to know how to play him there. He only has six hits to left field this year in total. Either way, his plate discipline is pretty awful and when you combine that with his lack of ability to make adjustments consistently, and you get a guy who has been a hole in the lneup. I'm glad Hyde/Orioles have finally dropped him to 6th in the lineup, but I'm startng to think that maybe some time in Norfolk where he can work on making adjustments might be best, especially since the Orioles have O'Hearn and Santander available to play there. And it's not like he's been very good defensively this year either.
  24. The .273 OBP is really the killer. I'm really surprised the Orioles with all of their analytics keep putting an absolute out machine in the lineup everyday. Now I have noticed they are finally starting to give O'Hearn and hopefully Santander if they promote Cowser more opportunities. I really think Mountcastle needs a reset in the minors. He was not done any factors coming up in a system at the time that did not make him learn plate discipline so you get what we got at this point. Maybe some Norfolk time would help? I don't know if he's fixable but he clearly has continued to decline in the major leagues as pitchers have figured out how to get him out and he hasn't been able to make the adjustment back.
