Just came across Mayo’s Baseball Factory numbers from 2020.  His 60 yard dash was 6.81, which grades out as a 60 and is considered outstanding.   I had no idea he had that kind of speed.  Also, he threw 97 mph. He measured in at 6’5” and 215 lbs.  The guy is a gifted athlete.

It’s  one thing to have these kind of physical skills, but he’s performing on the field too.  Great looking swing with big numbers backing it up.  Here’s to hoping he keeps it up as he progresses through the system.

Sheesh, 97 MPH... so he throws harder than most pitchers.  6.81 60... I remember reading that 6.6 is the average for a MLB CFer, so it's safe to say he runs better than most corner OFers, and he could get faster - I recall Mullins came out of HS running a 7.0 60 and gradually improved to 6.4.

It'd be cool to see him get a MLB invite to ST and see if they say... "Damn, this guy looks better than Gunnar did last year.  Start him in AA this year."  How great would a Bowie infield of Mayo, Westburg, and Gunnar be?  Move Ortiz to AAA.

I’m suprised about Stowers given he had a full season of at bats.   I’d prefer to let him go into the off-season on this high he should be on.

I'm the complete opposite. He's got a huge problem with SO's - and he's no teenager at 23.  I want him to work at figuring out how to improve - whether it's a little bit or a lot.  Being ready to play in the Majors next year would be an enormous boost to his career.  This may be the opportunity of a lifetime for him.

Two days in a row Elias has made a very good trade with us coming out on  top in my opinion.. Kevin Smith plus for Castro is another steal in my opinion.. He is rated higher than Akin..

How so - seeing as Castro has much better stuff, and Smith is coming off a minor league season with a 4.57 ERA and 1.56 WHIP at 24 years old?  Even with Castro having a disappointing year at age 26, he had a 3.56 ERA and 1.317 WHIP with the Mets.  That seems like a clear loss for the O's, imo.

  4. I guess the same question regarding Marcell Ozuna.  He was cleared of felony charges but still has misdemeanor charges potentially pending.  There may (or may not) be more to his story, as his wife was previously charged with domestic assault against him.

It doesn’t look dirty to me. The camera angle might be a little deceiving, but it appears he may have made some kind of move toward 2B after running through 1B and needed to get back on 1B. The runner has every right to be on base. The fielder/pitcher does not get to dominate the base like that. You could make a case that he pushed him for both to avoid a collision with knees or getting spiked. Those things cause legitimate injury.

He has never been considered a dirty player that I have ever heard. To me, it’s a good kind of competitive toughness that is taught from 9 years old. If a player stands in the middle of first base without providing a path for the runner, the runner can run through them. It is what it is.

Good explanation that I hadn't thought of.  I think it's a little odd that it was posted - but no big deal.  .

I’m genuinely sorry about Wells, I really like feel good stories, and it doesn’t look like his is going to have a happy ending. The jury may still be out on Greene as well, but Sulser is getting up in years. He’s been ok, certainly worth the waiver claim, but if he’s one of our seven bullpen guys at the end of next season, it will be a very bad season.

That was from September 20th.  Fair enough that you don't hate Sulser - you just think it'll be a disaster if he's still on the roster at the end of next season.  And yes, Sulser is younger than Andriese.

I like Sulser. Why did you infer that I didn’t? I don’t think he should be closer because I dislike the idea of a closer. And I think Sulser is older. Or they are basically the same age at 32.

I just suggested it because his stats compare well with our own pen.

Hmmm, let me dig up our conversation about Sulser from a few days ago - pretty sure it was at the end of one of the gameday threads.  I'll copy and paste it here for you.

Why would the Dodgers pay all that money to get rid of him.  I'm sure people in Baltimore are more conservative than people in L.A.  Don't really want him anyway.  How would he react if the O's were going to lose 100 games next year with him on the team.?  I don't think you want to find out.

How does MLB's lux tax work?  If LA trades him, does whatever they agree to pay of his salary count towards the lux tax limit?

  9. Syndergaard is no Stroman, but he could make a comeback and will obviously be much cheaper and therefore much more realistic - especially considering Stroman is a NYer, and the Mets undoubtedly want him back.  Noah is scheduled to make his MLB comeback tonight - probably just an inning - from the UCL tear - so he's basically missed 2 years - but he did pitch 197 innings the year before.  High risk but high reward.  Just turned 29, but the hair may be past its prime.

I like Javier Baez since im not fully convinced the O's have their next SS in the system. He would be an affordable piece. Good defensively, doesn't take walks but thats why he comes cheaper.

I've always been a huge Baez fan, so yeah, I'd love for the O's to get him.  He's a spectacular defender - at SS or 2B - though he will make his share of errors.  And while he typically has awful so/w numbers, he's a productive hitter with excellent power.  He's also finishing off this season real well with a 1.067 OPS in September.  As far as everyday players, he'd probably be #1 on my wish list.

  11. The O's are obviously not going to get Kris Bryant.  Chris Taylor might be a good acquisition in the Melvin Mora mold - giving a lot of versatility.  He's hit well for 5 straight years - switching mostly between, SS, 2B, and CF - making it a sure thing that he wouldn't block anyone.  He even played CF in this year's All-Star game.

Two different things.  Sure, they are careful not to pitch guys 3 days consecutively.  The separate question is how many times does a Tate warm up, sit down, warm up again before coming into a game or maybe not come into a game and how much risk factor is involved in that.

Sure, but evidence is needed before making any of those accusations.

  13. What makes me skeptical about the accusation that relievers were over-used from warming up when they were not used is that during tv broadcasts, I'd often hear the commentators say such and such and so and so are not going to be available because they've pitched both of the last 2 days.  Not saying I know one way or the other, but I'd need evidence before making that accusation.

I do wonder if Andrew Jones's son has the best potential in comparison to Johnson (small size/projected to 2b) and Green (lots of strikeouts) who can either go 1st or 2nd. I like that Jones has the genes, id projected to be a CF and has less holes.

I'm no scout, but Jones really jumps out to me - such a nice short effortless swing that generates power, real good angular size for a CFer at that age, and no noticable holes.  And again the genes - so many things similar to his father - who was ridiculously gifted.

How big is this for our system that we have the #1 overall pick and he ties with Stowers for POY?  Also, what a draft by Elias in 2019. AR, Gunnar, Stowers. First three picks.

It's a feel-good thing - not sure I'd jump to any further conclusions.

It's undercover tanking.  Rest the gold glove who just hit 30/30 a few days ago.  Play the injured guy who might fail to make a game changing play.  I understand resting Mullins for a day after hitting 30/30, but not sure why a 2nd day was needed.

Or the O's aren't flat out lying when they reported that he's been rested because of a sore hamstring.

  17. Signing a long-term contract will pretty much guarantee Adley would spend almost all of his best years in Baltimore.  I kinda doubt he wants to force himself into that position, and I doubt the O's would offer enough to change his mind.  Also, I can't imagine he'd agree to a contract with the O's that has team options.

That play was impressive.  It's good to see him having a good playoff series.

If I am Elias I am doing what I can to get Cal to work with Henderson in the offseason to teach him about positioning at shortstop.  Taking lessons from a big guy who played SS would be pretty important and no one did it better than Cal.

Henderson is listed as 6'3, 195.  Who knows how accurate that weight is, but he's certainly going to fill out.  Not sure if that'll prohibit his range at all, but it'd be great to have him stick at SS with Mayo at 3rd.

Seeing him about a month ago, I'd guess that 195 is from a long time ago - a good 20 lbs ago.
