  1. There's always a market for catchers, and Severino's playing like a 60 game all-star. Teams not wanting to commit 200 mil to Realmuto (not to mention giving up a package of top young players) might be willing to give up a good prospect for Severino.
  2. In the meantime, I appreciate that you did it. I didn't realize people would somehow have a hard time with it.
  3. I think they're more likely to end up shooting the confidence of Diaz and Mountcastle by being so slow to promote them. Most good players need to be given a challenge to improve and get frustrated when they aren't given a challenge.
  4. We know with absolute certainty that Smith is awful, and he's participating in the failure of our pitchers. We simply cannot keep playing him if management cares about the product on the field. I find it hard to believe that either Diaz or Mountcastle could be worse, and there's no reason to believe playing either of them will hurt their development. And they will likely continue improving while Smith will not - by this point in his career he most likely is what he is.
  5. Yes, I think so. Washington loaded up their lineup with righties, but what really started it was and 11 pitch walk by Turner - gotta give Turner a ton of credit and then a great at bat by Soto - who's the best hitter in baseball now. There were 2 or 3 bad defensive plays, and his pitch count escalated to 34. That was it. The one worrisome thing - he couldn't get a swing and miss. Still, his stuff looked ok. I think he'll be fine.
  6. No bullshot? https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/tyler-florence/shrimp-cocktail-bullshot-recipe-1948085
  7. I just vaguely remember him being super-fast - nothing about any seafood.
  8. And he can get away with saying things like "hit dongs" when using green font. Everyone wins.
  9. Hyde's always talked big about Santander's potential, and with all these fairly young players improving, I gotta give Hyde some credit - if for nothing else than improving their confidence. Also, these guys have all showed up buffer than last season. Just looking at Hyde, I gotta figure he's got something to do with them lifting more.
  10. I'm hoping it works out for Nunez at 1st base - and if he focuses just on 1st base and works hard at it, he can do a decent job there - he certainly cannot at 3rd base - where he should never play again. But yeah, he's got to improve, or he's just a DH. 1st base is a more important position than most people understand, imo - even if not much athleticism is needed.
  11. Some of the O's batters are a bit difficult to walk. And just wait till both Mountcastle and Hays are in the lineup together. Actually, we have been waiting. The over/under for Ryu's walks vs the O's is... 1.
  12. That's no reason to not improve. It hasn't been a problem, but it could and should be better at 1st base, and defense could and should be better in LF.
  13. Smith is one of the worst LFers I've ever seen - maybe THE worst. I can't imagine Mountcastle isn't better. Same with Diaz, btw.
  14. This thread makes me wonder where we'd be if we had average play from our 1st base position and - to a lesser extent from LF. Having said that, I don't know for sure if Mountcastle and Diaz (with Nunez being the everyday 1st baseman) would have provided average play at this point in their careers.
  15. Seriously, not everyone would get my reference, so it makes sense to use the font. Alternatively, I could have corrected your spelling.
  16. How about posting in green font when you're kidding. I've had trouble telling with you, lately, tbh.
  17. It's interesting how people can watch the same plays and see things completely differently. On the first fly ball to Smith, that was definitely catchable by a good LFer. I was watching the Nats broadcast of the game, and FP Santangelo even said it look catchable to him and was surprised Smith didn't try to catch it. And if he made that catch, Means could have survived that 1st inning. On the Nunez play, it was a weakly hit ball than wasn't hit far behind him. Nunez first step was forward - which slowed him and then he backpedaled for it - as it fell just behind him. It wasn't quite directly behind him. Even with the bad 1st step, he could have turned 90 degrees and got to it quicker than backpedaling. Just bad instincts altogether on his part. These are plays that are never going to be ruled as "errors", but they're mistakes that kill a pitching staff.
  18. Yeah, that just can't happen when you're 1 run down in the 8th.
  19. This looks like it's all Mean's fault, but... it's not. That first hit to Smith would be caught by a good LFer, and the bloop hit near 1st would have been caught by most 1st basemen.
  20. I wonder if Alterto's teammates have copied some of what he does. He's certainly an unusual hitter. What really got my attention last night was Arietta pitching around him... to get to the red-hot Santander - especially with Santander usually being a lefty hitter and Alberto a righty against the righty Arietta. That tells me pitchers have a lot of respect for Hanser.
