  1. Well, I can't speak for anyone else, but I said at the time it was a GREAT signing by Seattle and never wavered from that position. And I think everyone's tired of talking about Cruz. But I'll agree with you that the Davies for Para trade was more obviously foolish.
  2. I doubt it affects anything he does as far as future baseball contracts. Seems to me that this is his business, and if I was him, I'd be po'd if a local writer wrote about it.
  3. We have some interesting characters in the minors that could help the O's bullpen at some point - Miranda's a lefty who could be a long man. Maybe Gunkel from the right side. Richard Rodriquez looks solid. Chad Roe will likely get opportunities as long as he does well in Norfolk. And Mike Wright might make the most sense.
  4. Matusz is going to have to have a big year for us as a long reliever (sorry for the temporary hijack).
  5. Like this guy? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_vejfmGQPc
  6. And these young pitchers would be playing for cheap. And this year, we traded our first round pick for Gallardo. This is more than a trend - it's the way the O's front office does business.
  7. Is the plan to start his season at Frederick?
  8. LOL, message board impersonations: science or art?
  9. Wow, speak of the devil. Who's next?
  10. The Nick signing remains a mystery to me as the Braves seem to be preparing for a protracted rebuild process. Andrelton Simmons (baseball's top defender) is on the block (supposedly to an unnamed NL West team not named the Giants), ace Julio Teheran is on the block, Mike Minor is available, Cameron Maybin is available. Not really understanding this, because they traded their top prospect for Hector Olivera - who they thought was going to be their 3rd baseman but turns out to be so bad there that they're having him move to corner OF - assuming he stays healthy for a change. And never understood why they acquired Swisher and Bourn. It's looking like a real mess in the Atl.
  11. It seems like in every close game the O's have won over the last month or so, Manny's had a major part offensively - and we know what his defensive ability is.
  12. As the camel said, Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike! Nice hitting in the playoffs!
  13. Lifetime OPS+ is 97, and it's 72 for the O's. Gotta expect starting corner OFers to get over 100.
  14. They just need to win 30 of their last 29.
  15. Ok, the bolded part is the part that I wasn't following before. I would not assume that Milw would take the chance of offering him the QO.
  16. The O's get a compensatory pick if Parra is signed?
  17. Yeah, it might be the most useful of the modern stats.
  18. Just wondering if I have this right - We're supposed to believe that his dramatic improvement in offense is for real, and we're supposed to believe that his dramatic decline in defense is a fluke? I'd be okay with this trade if I thought we had excellent organizational pitching depth, but we don't - not even close.

    Zack Greinke

His personality and ego are big turnoffs a lot of the time, but he has an amazing sense of the strike zone. From what I've heard - the best since Ted Williams. Once he gets the respect that Williams got from the umps, I'm not sure how anyone's going to get him out.

    Zack Greinke

If people believe pitchers can no longer expand the strike zone due like Mssrs Maddux and Glavine used to, watch Greinke work. Nobody else gets those pitches 6 inches off the plate - and on BOTH SIDES of the plate. Talk about working the ump.
  21. The draft is all about projection and youth - the youther the better, as they say. If he stuck around another year, he'd have to improve significantly just to keep the same prospect status. He's already a clear 1st round pick. If he sticks around and shows he's a tweener - not big enough for PF and not the perimeter skills and athleticism of a SF, then he potentially drops out of the first round. Anything's possible, but I'd be surprised if he stays another year. More importantly, MD got Diamond Stone!
  22. I think the assumption is that Dekker is leaving for the NBA - for good reason considering how he's looked in the post-season. Wisconsin will likely be a solid team, but losing Dekker and Kaminsky will leave a mark - and they don't have the upside MD has. If Brantley and Trimble develop chemistry together - this MD team could win a national championship.
  23. I would go with Seattle over you on this one. If he stays healthy, he'll be worth the money. And winning is better than losing.
  24. I see. Seattle loses their pick, but it doesn't go to the O's. The O's just get the supplemental pick. My answer to the poll question depends on what they do to replace his bat. If they manage to make a good trade for Kemp, I'll give them a thumbs up. But if they don't get a reliable middle of the lineup bat, I give them a thumbs down. It's the combination of moves that's more important than the individual moves, imo.
  25. Also, I'd expect that he'll have fewer days suspended. In case you're wondering, that's not age related. Apologies if it's been asked and/or answered before, but what is the O's draft pick compensation going to be?
