  1. For me Davis sits. Mancini is given first base next year to make or break. Chris can DH occasionally or fill in for an injury. I take Chris from Spring Training and tell him he has to bunt against the shift if he wants back off the bench. That's what he is to focus on and leave him alone till he gets that right.

Wasn't awful, but he had the advantage of a big lead, a favorable strike zone that the Jays kept batching about, and some nice infield D. Jays couldn't keep from swinging at his high fastballs. He placed some nice breaking pitches for crucial strikes, wasn't afraid to throw them in dangerous counts. Like many lefties, was sneaky fast.

Good to read that this season for a change.

Didn’t Roger McDowell get the manager job with the Braves because of his history with the organization and developing pitching?  So McDowell wasn’t a very good manager but he was in charge of the pitching 2006-2016. So we got the top pitching guy, from one of the top pitching orgs.

Atlanta can offer Gausman things that we couldn’t. The Pitcher batting. No AL East. Big ballparks. Wonder what that does for a guys’ confidence?

I've always felt that these things make a big difference (not that the O's don't suck in starting pitching development). I wish there was some way to quantify it. How much of a difference?

Lol it's getting hard to keep "waiting and seeing" on this trade. However, at least I feel pretty good about the Manny, Schoop, and Britton trades. I can still sleep at night knowing we went 3/4 :D

This is kinda what I was thinking. I felt like getting him out of the AL East would help him (as it should any pitcher). You win and lose trades. Right now it looks like we winning 3 of 4. I'm cool with that.

I’m curious whether people think Adam Jones or Nick Markakis will get the better contract this winter.   A few points to consider:

    1.   Nick is nearly two years older than Adam.

    2.   Nick is having a career year, while Adam is having a subpar one.

    3.   However, if you look back further than 2018, Adam has usually been the better hitter.

    4.   Nick is a known quantity in RF.   We’re still waiting to see how Adam adjusts to playing a corner.

    5.   Nick has been the more durable of the two.

    6.   Nick is by far the more patient hitter and is probably less dependent on bat speed and thus less vulnerable to a decline based on bat speed.

    7.   Nick’s current team might want him back, whereas Adam’s probably doesn’t.

So, what say you?    Who gets the better deal this winter?

    Total contact or annual average?

It's only going to hurt because the Orioles couldn't get it out of him.  But as I said previously, they never were.  So what's the alternative, just hold onto guys and not have them produce here because we're so afraid of having them go elsewhere and producing?  It's my hope that they'll figure out how to develop pitching but there's no way to tell that they'll be able to.

Maybe the Braves can tease it out of him, but he's 3-10 with a 6.33 ERA in interleague, it's not like he's performed well against the NL.  Granted some of those games came in Baltimore where the opponent got to use a DH.

What are his stats in NL parks?

  7. I think pitching in the AL specifically in the AL East matters compared to pitching in the NL especially. But, that being said, we have a real problem with starting pitching. It could be drafting, development or coaching or all three or something else but we have an issue.

If I was a contending team with some room payroll flexibility and a hole at 1B/DH, I'd most certainly consider adding Trumbo. The commitment isn't that long to him and he's a year removed from hitting 50 HRs.

Let's hope he keeps hitting in August and we find a taker. In the AL, based on production from 1B especially, The Yankees or Mariners could utilize him.

I was thinking of the Yankees. They can absorb his salary.

  9. How about one thread for updates on how our former players are doing? We could use it for Machado, Schoop, etc... that were traded this year or even if we want to include players that left us years ago.
