  1. I have no idea why we haven't done this yet. We have the technology to remove human error. We have the ability to be above reproach in this modern gambling age. Let's get it done. The minor leagues already use it and as we heard, it has affected players coming from the minors to the majors (why we have different procedures in the minors vs the majors is beyond me, like when they used different balls). I can't see what the argument would be for the other side.

This is my concern too. It's a waste of a roster spot.

We only have one true long man in the pen, and that's Suarez. You can burn him one night if say Kremer gives up 12 runs in 4 innnings, but then he's gone for the next games. If we don't have any injuries, someone should go to the pen when Grayson gets back.

  3. My fear with a 6 man rotation is how it limits the pen. What happens when we get one starter shelled by the 3rd inning and needs to be pulled? We don't have too many guys that we can option and bring up on the shuttle like previous seasons.

None in games at AAA. But now is probably a great time to see what he can do out there IMO. Don’t want to wait until next year to have to see if he can.

But nothing to indicate that management wants to see him play OF yet then, I guess

Some posters/fans want to get rid of good players like O’Hearn and Mountcastle because they believe the younger players will eventually be better.

In the scenario that you laid out, where Santander’s spot in RF is the only place available next season, I’m not sure that Kjerstad is the better player than Mayo. Mayo is a good bit younger and Kjerstad is not good with the glove. At least Mayo has a very good arm, so he may not be worse than Kjerstad in RF. Additionally, Mayo is more of an asset by helping to balance out the lineup due to his RHH.

Has Mayo played the OF much at all?

  6. I assume (and of course it's not best to assume), that our starting IF for near future is Mountcastle, Holliday, Henderson and Westburg. There are no starting positions for Mayo, Norby, Mateo or Urias in the next few years if things develop properly. Right not, I see no reason to get rid of O'hearn. Mateo is a very valuable piece off of the bench. I think Mayo and Norby are trade bait, unless you move people to the OF. We have Santander leaving this year and hopefully Kjerstad can handle his spot. That leaves Mullins in CF and Hays/Cowser in LF. Maybe Stowers gets up later; maybe not. We do have some CF depth later on with Bradfield. Now, these may not develop as expected, but if things go as expected, I think this is what we are looking at.

What makes Norby better than Mayo? And what is Norby’s place on this team next year even? With all the talent on the team currently and all the better/more talented INF in the Minors in front of him, I don’t see a regular place in the lineup going into the future.

He will serve a much better purpose in being included in a trade IMO than to start his clock now.

    I don't watch much AAA, but isn't Norby's defense better than Mayo's?

  8. Right now, which would do more for the major league team? Would Mayo go through an adjustment period like Gunnar, Cowser and Stowers did where they weren't very good their first time up? Will Urias come back around to his career average? Also, should we risk DFA Urias and losing him completely?

Yep.  Rotation is better if it stays healthy (massive fingers crossed).  Grayson and Povich are around, too.

If/when some of Santander, Mullins, Hays, Kjerstad, Holliday, Mayo start producing the offense should look really good.

Replacing Bautista is impossible but I still want another power arm for the pen, though hopefully Wells replaces Baumann at some point.

Maybe if all of those guys start hitting, we might not need a closer as much as we will be up by alot more going into the ninth. :)

I am sure they held him back tonight just in case Means struggled and he had to be the long man.  Can’t imagine they don’t try to get him work today.

Good point. They really don't have a long man in the pen otherwise

Do you expect someone to know for sure?  He was warming up tonight.   Most likely tomorrow.

More of a rhetorical question. I don't think he has pitched since going into the pen.

I love this thread.  It would be great if this narrative about Cano being a gold glover could make its way to an influential site like Fangraphs or other places.  Cano is an excellent athlete and doesn't get the credit for it.

This is what is needed. O's fans, make it a campaign. Call in to radio shows, comment on articles, email, text etc... on national sites
