Probably. But maybe it was enough of an injury to be day to day and the need to make a roster move made the decision easier to 15 day IL him. Who knows really? It’s pretty convenient that a roster move needed to be made and all of a sudden someone’s hurt.

This team has to start playing better at home. I'm tired of them putting out these sad sack offensive displays in front of 35,000 paying fans against junk teams.

They’re 8-5 at home, 8-4 on the road. They score 5.5 runs per game at home. They also score 5.5 runs per game on the road.

    What was your point again?

It’s not the same …. Henderson was batting just under .200. Holliday is batting .040. So about 20 % as good as Henderson was at his worst. And he’s striking out in more than 1 out of 2 trips to the plate.

There is no sense panicking either way. But, there is nothing wrong with sending him down. I think too many of you guys are acting like not sticking with him is some kind of sin. As a fan, I’m worried about damaging his confidence too much.

Plus after all the bullshit from his father, hopefully now he will keep his mouth shut.

To be fair it’s such a small sample size, he could go 6 for his next 6 abs and be batting .225. I don’t think he should be sent back down unless he goes something like another another 1/25. At the very least, he seems to be having some more solid contact even without getting hits.

Give it 2 or 3 and I guarantee you will be hooked. Show goes places man, it's wild.

Yeah I hear that. I thought the same thing when I started watching Mad Men. I was like, "This show is okay, but I don't really get all the hype."  I kept watching and then I couldn't stop.

The Apple TV broadcasts are pretty sweet.   Great picture, great camera work.

Facts.  I like how all the score bugs sort of blend into the picture instead of just being on the screen (don't really know how to describe it).

  6. I think the only people blaming the pitch clock are the people who were already opposed to the pitch clock.  I'm never going to believe that allowing the pitcher to dick around with a rosin bag, walk around the mound, fix his twig and berries over and over (for however long they want between pitches) is going to prevent TJ surgery, which is obviously always a risk when you're asking a human to use his arm and elbow in a way it wasn't mean to be used.

People are obviously trying to act like pitchers going down with elbow injuries is a new thing, but the numbers don't really prove that.

I understand.  But the way some here personally attack other Oriole fans such as myself, just for having a differing opinion?

Reminds me a lot of political forums.  Which is a big reason why this country is do divided right now.

Dude when your posts boil down, “This my ridiculous opinion, which is really just fact, and you can’t argue against it because I’m so awesome at everything in life”, that’s going to turn people off. It will only naturally cause people to take shots against your claims.

The problem I have had with all the headlines about this. The Bridge didn't collapse, it got knocked down. You would think people that have been to College would realize this.

Kind of a distinction without a difference, no?

Yes, it got hit by a ship and the ship knocked it down, but it did collapse.

We significantly outperformed our Pythagorean record last year and didn't upgrade this year's roster to any notable degree.

By 7 games? We can quibble if that qualifies as "significantly outperformed" or not. I could easily argue that it doesn't mean that much considering how well the Orioles hit with RISP and how well they played in close games. Either way, why should they regress by 14 games?

I doubt that. What would Ohtani have to bet to beat his $70 million dollar salary?

Is your argument that wealthy people don’t gamble? Someone better notify Vegas.

I agree with others that this whole thing stinks of a cover up.

Yea, what's up with a guy averaging 5.9 fWAR/162 being considered good?  He's only got four top 10 MVP finishes in six seasons (he was a rookie and got traded mid-season the other two).

Why be snarky? It's not about whether he's good or not, he obviously is. But do you honestly think there are only 2 players better than him in the entire league?

I appreciate the different perspective from myself regarding "market size". However, no one answered my question regarding why the spending capabilities don't always match the city/population/market size? If there were a direct correlation teams like ARI, HOU, TOR, MIA, TEX, SD would have always been big spenders. However, those orgs histories show that their spending/budgets have changed with different ownership groups.

I am confident that the billionaires coming to take over the Orioles are not content to bleed money consistently. However, I believe that they are smart enough to make their money and see the investment opportunity here. I think we can win, spend, and the can still turn a profit. It may not be the profit that Angelos was looking for but I don't think that they are primarily in it for the same reason that John Angelos was. From the very outset, Reubenstein said the goal is to bring a World Series back to Baltimore. Of all the things (most bizarre) that John Angelos said, I don't recall that ever being at the forefront of his stated priorities.

I really don't understand the argument you're trying to make. A large market team not spending to their fullest market capability doesn't suddenly make them a small market. If the Dodgers decide to have a 30m payroll, that won't make them small market. It just means the owner isn't spending money. If a team like the Orioles spends more than their market theoretically allows, it doesn't mean they are a large market team.

Couldn't agree more. That is why it is so frustrating to read this stuff.  We have never been a small market team, but this fanbase has been beaten into submission over and over again by former ownership so bad they just can't wrap their head around this. I hope they prepare themselves for what is coming, they might have a nervous breakdown if we actually start spending at the ......middle of the pack level.

You can think that the Orioles should have a much higher payroll but they are very obviously a small market team.

Committed to running 150m payrolls?.....it's not 2015 anymore. That would still be below league average (in 2024 that is). The question should be if they are committed to running 200m payrolls, not 150m. 200m in 2025 and beyond will still only be 12-14th overall. It's like this fanbase has been in a payroll coma for a decade and just woke up. Wait how much do players cost now? And these teams are spending how much?? Wow! So much has changed.

There are only 9 teams with a payroll of $200m +. The league average is $158m.

Do you want to do that though for a 30 year old pitcher likely to command 200+ mil over five or more seasons? Maybe he ends up having a Scherzer like career and it will be worth it, but it seems risky.

I rather extend Gunnar and Jackson, unless we are going to be able to start dishing out huge contracts like candy.

I don't think anyone necessarily wants to give that much money to anyone. But if that's the cost of baseball players now, then it's the cost. I would rather give that type of money to a 30-year-old pitcher than a 30-year-old position player.
