Zippy chance the Marlins take that deal.

Maybe not that one but I do think marlins would expect some ML talent as they are trying to win now.  They won't be interested in taking risks on Norby or even some of the higher prospects.

No major trades?  If Elias is afraid of losing a trade every now and then, then he doesn't have any business being a GM.  The more important variable to me is how many prospects turn into Actual Major League Baseball Players - a number we all know is well below 100%.  101 wins means the rebuild is over and the competitive window is open, so the job now is improving the team for 2024.  To me that means cashing in a few prospects regardless of the risks.

It also means spending more money whether John Angelos wants to or not.  It doesn't need to be top-half, but if the budget for 2024 remains in the lowest quartile then we will all have our answer as to what aspirations JA has for the Orioles.  After last season, I'm not going to assume the O's are going to remain bottom feeders, but I don't expect a huge, all-in strategy either.  My guess is around a $20 million bump in OD payroll.

I agree with trading one of Santander or Hays for SP.  My preference is Hays.  I don't care which of Cowser or Kjerstad is the one kept.  I would love to see Mayo switched to RF at AAA as Santander's long-term replacement beginning in 2025.

Agree with this.  With that in mind doesn't that imply our chances of winning next year are better with Hays, Mullins, Santander in the outfield than Cowser/Kjerstad?  The former have proven themselves, and at least one of the latter may never get to those levels.

Any manager could lead a team as talented as this one to 101 wins. Take a look at my posting history to get an idea of how poor Hyde is as a manager before calling me an idiot.

Dispute my arguments (about Hyde being a terrible manager, which I've stated multiple times with examples and analysis) with facts instead of insults.

I do appologize for the insult in my  post-game frustration.  My perspective is that leading a team is as much about building a strong team chemistry as in-game decisions.  Hyde has definitely done that.  And while this team is talented, it has almost no experience.   No one expected them to do what it has done, so dismissing the contribution of the manager is totally unfair.

I would be fine with trying him in the bullpen but he will need to earn the trust to be closing games. Make him get a few high leverage outs at least. Or just DFA. Our bullpen is solid as is. As they say, don't fix what ain't broke.

Agree with needing to prove himself in pen first before anointing closer.  But I would def try this before DFA.  And ASAP so we can see him for next couple weeks during reg season before having to make decision on playoff roster.

MLB.com:  1 player from every contender we can’t wait to watch this October

    Orioles: CF Cedric Mullins
There aren’t a lot of teams on which the 28-year-old Mullins would be considered a graybeard, but the Orioles are one of them. He’s as grizzled a vet as anyone -- a true O's lifer -- and he’s absolutely impossible not to cheer for. He’s the heart of this team, and no one here deserves a long postseason run more than he does.

When I read the article title, I expected to see Gunner here.  But I actually love this writeup.  Would love to see Mullins have a great postseason .

Need and players still on the roster could determine this. Holliday is a good overall defender at SS, but he's behind Ortiz and probably Gunnar (do to his plus arm) for now defensively at SS. If Westburg settles in at 2B, and Ortiz is up and playing well at SS, it might make sense to see what he could do in LF due to his plus speed.

Now, no one wants to take a guy off the dirt if they don't have to, but Holliday's average at best SS arm does fall behind both Ortiz and Gunnar at the moment. I haven't seen anything that makes me think Holliday can't play SS, but just that he's behind the other two for me. Now moving Gunnar to 3B makes sense because with everyday reps there he would be a GG in my opinion.

I guess you know you have a pretty good group of players already when you can see a scenario where Holliday ends up in the outfield on this team. Again, not a swipe at Holliday, but more about how good Ortiz and even Gunnar is at SS.

at least one of these 4 should be traded this off season.

  7. There has to be some trades this winter, otherwise the good culture that Elias has built will be at risk of deserving guys being pissed they are not getting their opportunities.

I'm embarrassed, in one respect, to share that I, a big O's fan, barely watched the World Series in '83.  Why?  Because I was 18 and in love for the first time! lol   I spent as many waking hours with her as possible and everything, including my beloved team, was secondary.  Did see the last game, so at least I have that. 😄

    and where is she now?
