  1. Been thinking about 2nd base and we got a serious logjam here.

    • Frazier - regular starter
    • Urias - utillity infeilder, backup at second among other spots coming off a gold glove season
    • Vavra - 2nd base is primary position, MLB roster and just gets on base.
    • Westburg - first man up from minors?   If long term plan for O's it's probably at 2B considering other options at 3rd and SS.
    • Ortiz - 2nd man up?  SS ready, but where does he fit in an IF with Henderson, Westeburg, Mayo (not to mention Mateo).
    • Norby!  Only led the Orioles MiLB in homers and off to a great start in AAA.
    • Prieto - big international signing last year, appears very capable at 23 years old.

That's at least 7 guys that are legitimate MLB players or prospects or better.

Feel bad for Norby  - he deserves a shot I just don't see how it happens in Baltimore.

Barring injury, I think this removes any 26-man active roster drama for Spring Training, especially if they do end up signing a LH OF. I think the battle for the 8th RP spot and the last bench spot are really the only obvious openings; maybe Stowers and McKenna too?

Rustchman, McCann, Mountcastle, Frazier, Mateo, Henderson, Urias, Mullins, Santander, Hays, Stowers, McKenna, Vavra/LH OF

    Gibson, Irvin, Kremer, Bradish, Rodriguez

Bautista, Tate, Perez, Givens, Baker, Wells, Voth, 8th RP (Akin, Hall, Krehbiel, Vespi, Politi)

That requires a big assumption that everyone stays healthy.

Veteranosity.   The players Elias have added do not have star quality at this point in their careers,  but McCann, Frazier and Gibsons have all been All-Stars and been to the playoffs.  Givens has also been to the playoffs.  They have been through the ups and downs of a pennant drive which should help the O's team.

The other thing that caught my attention is that all 3 of these guys are known to be great clubhouse guys.   Elias definitely appreciates clubhouse chemestry.

  4. If I were GM this board would roast me for not being aggressive enough.  But I wouldn't spend a lot of $$ on offense.  I woudl take 1B/DH guy like Abrau, 2 big starters - Rodon (gotta love the lefty in this park now) and Basset.   Potentially a bullpen guy.  I'd extend Adley and be prepared to extend Gunner during the year.

No surprises. Biggest commission may be Handley who a lot of posters like to be Adley's backup as soon as next year. Hopefully he is not selected.

I'd be surprised if someone took a rule 5 guy as a backup catcher.  Very few carry 3 catchers, and it really constrains flexibility if you can't count on your backup.

Interesting that they believe Holliday won't arrive until 2028. That's a bit longer than Jackson's plans.

If it takes the #1 pick in the draft 6 seasons to get to the majors, it's a fail.
