    Absolutely yes!!

Why would we (a team with the best record in the league and a realistic chance at a World Series) be willing to make our team worse this season in order to hedge for future seasons especially with a farm system this good?

I'm not going to call you nuts. But I think you are asking the wrong questions. We don't have a credible player to stand in for Hays and reliable give us an .800 OPS right now. Sure Cowser and Kjerstad COULD give us that kind of production. But that is a BIG RISK.

Completely agree.  No chance these guys get traded this year.

Hays and Santander are probably both at peak value right now. It doesn't mean you trade them, but if Elias felt like the return made the team better this year then I'm all for it. Would have to be a return of pitching I would think

We have a chance to win the World Series this year and these guys are our most productive players.  There is no way in hell either are getting traded.  While Cowser may be a great long term asset and ultimately replace one of these guys, he's clearly not ready to lead a playoff charge.

How about Kevin Gausman in his years with the Orioles?  4.22 career ERA with BAL and he was obviously worse in several seasons.  Pete Harnisch was another guy (4.49 career ERA with Orioles in a pitcher's park--ERA+ pof 85 vs 91 for Kremer).

I know O’Hearn has been a surprise, but should the Orioles consider Paul Goldschmidt if the asking price is reasonable?

With Goldschmidt due $26M next year, I doubt it would pass with the Angelos brothers if Elias could work out a trade.

That would be a great fit.

  5. Fastest runner: Enrique Bradfield Jr., OF, Vanderbilt (80 grade)
Callis: The Vanderbilt outfielder would be the most obvious. I actually think Bradfield might have run slightly better as a freshman and sophomore than he did this year. He actually went 46-for-46 stealing bases last year, and I think he got caught seven or eight times this year. His speed -- and it’s not just speed but also his ability to use it -- he’s a wonderful base stealer. He’s a tremendous defender in center field. He gets a lot of Kenny Lofton comps. That’s the upside on him. Not only does he have this top-of-the-scale speed, he knows how to make the most of it.

  6. Have to think both Verlander and Scherzer would be available.  Both have contracts for the remainder of this year plus next year at about $43mm per.  Either could be a great fit for the O's as they make a playoff push.

What do you all think the prospect cost would be?  Obviously would be higher if we look for the Mets to pick up some of the $$.

    Interested?

  7. Seems like with the Reds coming in with Ely this week, Monday would be a good day for the O's to bring up their own young stars.  Be one way to inject some energy after a couple weeks of scuffling a bit.

  8. I think that Elias really prioritizes culture and veteran presence.  Not that Westburg, Cowser or the like would negatively impact culture on their own, but he likes the balance we have with young guys, young vets and older vets.
