I think it’s the game of the year for a few reasons: While it’s not a game against the Yankees or a game in our division, it’s still a very formidable opponent that is always tough for us. It was a playoff type atmosphere, as close as you can probably get to that type of feeling in mid-August. We did it in their house and I don’t care what anyone says, flying across country from east to west isn’t optimal. We did it the night after we got thrashed. That’s one thing I’ve always appreciated about Hyde’s teams, they can get their brains beat in one night and come back the next day like nothing happened. Irvin stepped up and delivered an immense performance, he was matching Kirby inning for inning. And I know we’ve been shut out this season but I think that was easily the best pitching performance against us by an opponent. Our bullpen was nails through middle innings until the end, capping it with a vintage Felix performance. The defense was air tight. The much maligned Mateo made an outstanding play, doing the jump throw from the hole. Cano made a great play off the mound. Gunnar kept the tag on that runner to secure that out at second base on the steal attempt. As gratifying as a walkoff against the Yankees or hanging 14 on them? Maybe not. But the Yankees are pretty pathetic this year, they haven’t been a threat for awhile now and they’re all but officially eliminated from a playoff berth. They’re sleepwalking to the end of the season. The Mariners are the hottest team in the game right now. So those are my reasons I’ve got it as the game of the year so far.

Correct, the fact that he strikes out batters at an absurd rate is helpful. But he cannot control the running game, anyone with good speed and a good technique can steal at will against him. I'm not sure if Marlowe fits that bill but I was a bit surprised to not see him try to steal third. This is hilarious. I wanted to rep you for that but I'm all out.

Dude made the mistake of sliding in feet first. I don't know why anyone would do that on a stolen base attempt for that very reason...harder to control staying on the bag when you slide in like that and pop up, you run the risk of coming off the bag. Easier to stay attached to the bag when you go in headfirst.

Agreed. We didn't get lucky or steal one. We eked it out. And yes, we have Felix. Insert some try hard quote from Kevin Brown about having the right King Felix here.

I don't know if this takes some of the wind out of the Mariners sails but I sure hope so.

I'd say there's a small chance that they bring him up when rosters expand in September. Get him a little playing time, get him a taste of a playoff push, let him know what he needs to work on to be on the ML roster on OD 2024. If we weren't in a playoff race and a race for the Division, I'd say there's a better chance that he comes up.

Out on my porch watching the game, having a couple cigars, I yelled when Felix struck that last batter out.

Bradish needs to deliver tomorrow. Our bullpen might be a little short. Hopefully this game cools Seattle off a bit. Maybe a bit of a backbreaker to lose a game like that...playoff type atmosphere, King Felix's night, packed house, Kirby was dealing...and they lost.

Nah, it wasn't lucky. C'mon. Irvin delivered a great start. The bullpen navigated their way through. Felix dominated. Mounty smoked that ball, there was no luck on that hit. I will say it was kind of lucky that Mullins was the runner on 2nd to start the extras, that was great. But the Orioles hung in there and did what they needed to do.

Tied at zero headed into extras, Kirby pitched a gem...Mullins stealing 3rd, Mounty with a burning single up the middle....Felix with a two inning win. Wow. Just wow.
