  1. Cool example from 25 years ago.
  2. Fair enough, but I don't think 2nd base is a non-premium position. I think first base is a non-premium position. I will grant you that I don't think 2nd is as premium as SS but it's not on the other end of the spectrum. If Jackson Holliday were indeed to move to 2nd base and hits like we all think he can and be a plus defender there, he'll have earning value.
  3. I'm still not impressed by Grayson blowing away AAA hitters and making them swing and miss. That doesn't mean I don't want to see him back in the majors...I do. I'd like to see him back up here soon. But I'm withholding any expectations of significant improvement. However, it would do this team a great deal of good if Grayson could do a 180.
  4. Dude, if you want to hijack every thread you can talking about pitching, you're off to an awesome start.
  5. I know it's so easy (read: lazy) to paint Boras as some evil character who has ruined baseball. While I'm not a particular fan of his either and I realize what I'm about to say comes off as an apologist, I'm frankly exhausted of everyone blaming him for things that haven't happened yet. Let's make one thing clear that we should all be able to agree on: sports agents exist to represent the best interests of the athlete. That's it. They exist to negotiate contracts with teams and endorsement deals with companies. And no one has been able to do it better than Scott Boras, clearly. He's the biggest and best for a reason. AND he has the advantage of being first to market, he's been doing this since the early 80s when million dollar contracts were becoming a thing. Wikpedia says that they have a 20 million dollar, 23,000 square foot office and a 75 person staff that include a lot of former players. On top of the basic contracts/endorsements that an agency negotiates, they also have strength and conditioning and sports psychology services. It's a full suite of services for a ballplayer. It's an impressive operation and I don't think that can be denied. To pretend that Boras "will do what is in the best interest of Boras" is silly and not based in any sort of reality. He has repeatedly shown over the years that he's the absolute best in getting what his clients want. Remember when Schoop wanted to sign an extension with the Tigers? Who'd he hire to do it for him? https://www.mlive.com/tigers/2021/10/jonathan-schoops-extension-with-tigers-gives-him-worry-free-winter-its-peace-of-mind-i-wanted.html If Jackson Holliday is pissed that the Orioles somehow moved him off SS, you can bet that Boras will try and represent his client to the best possible outcome. If Jackson Holliday doesn't care about being moved off SS (again, something that hasn't even happened yet) I don't think Scott Boras will really care as long as his client is happy.
  6. I think everyone's been admitting this all over the place for years now. This isn't new. You could practically drop this sentence in anywhere in the history of the OH and it'd be true. I can't think of one point in the past 20 years where we could look at an entire pitching staff and be like "Nah, we're good, don't need two more arms." I hope that Elias pulls a trade or two to get some bullpen help here, IMO that's the biggest point of concern. I don't think our rotation is all that great but I'd really like to see him get two more bullpen arms because I think being able to bridge to Coulombe, Baker, Cano and Bautista is a huge obstacle right now. But this is a Cowser thread.
  7. He's looked way better than Ortiz, especially at the plate. I think you're using hyperbole a little bit too much. No one here has ever expected Cowser to be something like Mike Trout. I don't think it's unreasonable to see someone slashing .330/.459/.537 at AAA over 257 plate appearances and wondering WTF is taking so long that he hasn't been called up. Especially when there are guys like McKenna on the team. IMO, this move is, like, two weeks too late.
  8. Just when you think Gibson might be getting it together.
  9. Gunnar and Adley striking out looking c’mon.
  10. I’m out checking my grill. What’d he do?
  11. Love hearing the Thorne golden pipes. But it’s offset by Bordick. I wonder if Kim would have had a good career if Buck liked him and gave him more of a shot.
  12. Glad to see MASN got the memo about the Keegan Akin game.
  13. Yeah saw the rain delay but usually game threads are started well ahead of time. But Gibson is starting today so I’m assuming no one’s excited. I know I’m not.
  14. Probably will continue to look helpless against lefties if he never gets a chance to hit against them. Can’t look for any improvement if he doesn’t get the reps. I shudder at the thought of Mountcastle rejoining this team. At least get Mateo out of there so there aren’t two automatic outs in the lineup near each other.
  15. Didn’t seem to hinder Cal much in ‘91. But this is the part where @Frobbygoes and looks up stats about how Cal’s 2nd half wasn’t as good as the first. I’m not worried about this hurting his swing or him getting exhausted or whatever. He gets a cool father/son moment at the stadium closest to where he grew up. One should be so lucky.
  16. I love Mateo but it’s time to make a change. Hurts to see because he’s a good dude but he’s just been unbearable with the bat lately and the defense is still very good but not what it was last year.
