  1. I've been going back to the late 70s and 80s cards that I always wanted but couldn't afford. Getting the hot new rookies isn't really appealing to me unless it's Gunnar/Adley. Got their first Bowmans, also a franchise future's with both of them on it /99, PSA graded Gem Mint 10. Went a little nuts back when Markakis was a rookie, bought a bunch of his rookie cards. Can't imagine they're worth what I thought they were gonna be.
  2. Nah man, the Mattingly rookies are still worth a few bucks. Of course, gotta be in good condition and all that, bu they're still valuable. Some of the junk wax era cards are valuable today, but they've gotta be graded 9.0+. I'm going to send a few away next week to get graded at PSA. I'll see your Rich Amaral and raise you a Mike Gallego. Word on the streets is that Adley won't be in Update this year.
  3. Bautista makes me nervous. Been saying it for a little while now.
  4. Speaking of cards, I must have about 50 of his 1989 Topps. And that was a dude who, even at 7 years old and not knowing anything about baseball, I could tell just by the photo on the card that he wasn’t good.
  5. If this involves you wearing short shorts from the era, count me out.
  6. Utah! Get me two! https://www.topps.com/cards-collectibles/topps-now/gunnar-henderson-2022-mlb-topps-now-reg-card-819.html
  7. Yankee fans are jealous. Yankee fan tears are the tears of angels.
  8. Looking forward to seeing if DL Hall can somehow miraculously harness his command over the next month.
  9. I don't think it has to do with his style of running. I mean, his top speed is like 30 feet per second. That's pretty elite. Rickey Henderson stole bases off the pitcher, not the catcher. Just read his biography, he wouldn't run unless he felt like he could get a good jump and that all started with the pitcher.
  10. This is where I'm at. Every time I go there, I just can't stand it. I dunno if it's the colors they use on their page but I can't stand Fangraphs. I understand the work that they do, I understand they're nerds, that's all good and well. But there's something about the writing there that rubs me the wrong way. So yes, they can F off indeed. I'm with this, too. It's a lot of fun and I couldn't give a Frenchman's **** about what Fangraphs predictions are for the final month of the season. I mean, I get it, they're in the prediction business because that gets fans riled up and gives us something to chew on but whatever. I side with @Tony-OHon this, they can talk all about their projections all they want, and that's fine. But they can't take that pesky human element into account, the thing that drives all of the stat nerds crazy, the variable that they'll never be able to account for. That's what makes this whole thing fun.
  11. I'm assuming if Mountcastle or Odor goes down with an injury they'd look to him to be able to fill that spot. Probably due to his sheer athleticism they'll try to see how versatile he can be and it's better to do that in the minors than on the fly in the majors. At least now he'd have an idea of what he'd be getting into at either position.
  12. I've found the corner of the internet where old fat white guys are discussing the sprinting style of a world class athlete who's arguably the fastest guy in the majors and wondering how it could be better. You guys get winded walking to your mailbox. I think I've seen it all now.
  13. Angelos has been owner for close to 30 years, I dunno what else could happen.
  14. I think I saw that exchange. Basically, he wasn't going to admit to being wrong about what the Orioles have done to have a season like this. He keeps banging the anti-tanking drum and won't let up. I get where he's coming from, it does suck to a certain extent. But what I hate even more is a team trying to spend money in free agency in order to appear like they're trying to win and failing miserably. That's not a long-term plan for success. I think I replied to Olney in that exchange that I remember the Raffy 2.0, Tejada and Javy Lopez Orioles and how miserable that was, too, and of course he didn't reply. I mean, if I were a Rangers fan this year I'd be IRATE. They've got a decent system but what are they going to do when Leiter, Rocker, Winn, etc get called up and they've got half a billion tied up in two players? Anyway, Olney has been dragged on twitter by Orioles fans for most of the summer and it's fantastic. I hope they don't let up.
  15. Awesome to see a hyped prospect come up and have one of THOSE games in his debut. Needs to be in the lineup every day for the rest of the season, no questions.
