  1. The best should be yet to come. I'd take this past month as the sign that we should be preparing to "flip the switch" for next year, but I wouldn't be making any moves yet except those that boost our chances next season and beyond.
  2. Notice this doesn't actually say John has ever broached moving the team to anyone. It's very likely nothing but conjecture conjured up by an opponent in a legal battle to make John's control of the team seem scary.
  3. Hasn't played again since. edit: Oh he's back, and I found his dedicated thread!

This is what Ohtani did though, right? Effectively giving up on a lot more money to come over sooner. Also, I think the the new labor deal could still change these rules. It's cool that even after 100+ years of baseball you have players still doing things never been done before. Hopefully this guy lasts longer in his top form than Kerry Wood did.
  5. I remember driving and tuning the radio to some of those Joe Angel and Fred Manfra broadcasts and just being awed the sounds of the game and their voices. Soothing voices that were made for baseball and could transport you into feeling like you were listening to a Brooklyn Dodgers game during the radio golden age or something. It's making me wistful thinking about it!
  6. Haskin starting the season hot at AA.
  7. I was on mlb.com and saw that headline and was like, I REMEMBER THIS!! I liked reading about how Jake Fox still enjoys recalling this run.
  8. I think this is all serious stuff, and players have been too lax in their behavior. But to my knowledge the virus is much more likely to be passed around within a team versus between teams, ie on chartered flights and in the dugouts and crowded locker rooms. The virus doesn't spread from surfaces too badly, especially as compared to as compared to being in close quarters without a mask, and it won't be too bad on the field where there's open air. But it only takes one person on a team to catch it for them to spread it across the roster if the team isn't taking enough precautions. This has to be a wake up call because otherwise this season will be over sooner rather than later.
  9. Say we accept Villar doesn't fit into the current timeline and his talent is useless to us. They still could've kept him and then waited for a decent deal. If they never got a nice offer, then nothing lost except for some modest money to pay a good baseball player. The risk is nothing and there's a potential for some return. I have to think they're incompetent or just want to spend as little money as possible.
  10. Roch says Hays is going to be playing in extended spring training games this week, and if healthy could be starting in CF right now. If he hits well, it might not be too long. June?
  11. How is that a really good return? Look at Schoop, he's an MLB-established strong second baseman with over a year of team control.
  12. Davis been reading this thread.
  13. We let Nelson Cruz walk and then learned our lesson and locked up Davis and Trumbo.
  14. Ortiz destroyed that phone and had previously charged the mound at Gregg, and he talks a lot. Also he's good and on the Red Sox. Lots of good reasons to hate him, especially those last two.
  15. Can't say I'm a fan of the deal, but Parra has a career obp of .330. Not fantastic but actually only exceeded by Machado this season. The .370 he's got going this year would be the team's best so hopefully he's able to keep it up.
  16. If you'd voted, your selection would be highlighted in italics.
  17. Apparently I voted Too much: worried about only 2 months of Miller vs a long career of ERod, which certainly is looking like the right choice now. However, I gotta say that as last season went on, if you'd polled me again, around playoff time, I probably would've changed my tune. And if we'd won a WS I'd definitely be singing a different tune right now. This trade was one of those gambles, you don't know EdRod is gonna be a hit and you don't know how far the Orioles will go. Was it too much to give up? Oh yes, it looks like it, but it's the type of move you can debate about forever.
  18. I'm not originally from this region but have been in the DC area for awhile. My gf at the time (10 years ago) had just gotten into UMd Law School which is in Baltimore... we went to check out the city and were walking around and saw an Orioles game was about to start. Walked up and bought tickets. It was fun. Went to more games. When the Nats moved in, I thought maybe I'd start watching Nats games, but instead just kept following the Orioles and realized I'd become an Orioles fan. Despite how bad they were
  19. Wwoulda been kewW to get good ol' Koji.
  20. The offense has been clicking lately. Nick, Adam, Chris, and of course, all season long, Cruz. Even Hardy and Schoop were flashing the bat today. This could be a great time to roll off some wins if the pitching cooperates.
  21. I agree with weams here on the Johnson front, not necessarily about the tickets, but the guy had a fantastic season that year. We can say oh, he was subpar in a couple playoffs games, I think we need to dump him. But a GM can't really afford to make that deal and give up on a valuable closer who was a big part of a winning team based on just a feeling like that.
  22. Blowout win, but not really a laugher when you're trailing 2/3 of the game.
  23. Nice bump. Someone find the one about being antsy the day after an off day for tomorrow. Or maybe make a new one because I think someone closed that one.
