I'd have preferred it if he went this crazy on arms.  Like my strategy from a few years ago, just draft nothing but pitching, rounds 1-50.  Someone good would have had to have landed.

Just on a flat monetary value, wouldn't it make sense to do the opposite?   Pitchers are more likely to get hurt and they play fewer innings than the position players.  Why not draft and develop a ton of position players, let other organizations take risk on pitching, and when a good pitcher(success w/o injury history) emerges trade with the surplus of position players.

We've been waiting a few years for this to be true. Hopefully we don't have to wait another 1+ years to start the fun part of this process.

I have a feeling they make some exciting trades to bolster(start to build) the rotation next year.  Means, FA, Trade acquisition, the rest in house.  Try to pick up another SP via Trade & FA the following year and fill out the pen with the SP rejects.

  3. Everyone says we are going to have to out smart the other organizations.  Well, he sure is trying something new here and I like it.  Pitchers taking shorter deals and pitching strategies changing completely is changing the market and players value.  With pitchers going fewer and fewer innings their value goes down.  Try to hit on a home grown arm, trade for a stud with surplus, and sign some short term deals   It will be interesting to see what Phase 2 is.  I suppose the first trade for P or P FA signing will trigger Phase 2.   Next few years are going to be exciting.

I haven't been following his promotion closely. Can anyone explain why they waited until end of June? Does that have to do with Super 2? I assume he didn't just take his performance to a new level in the last month...

Rays have been in a slump since losing Glasnow.  Doesn't effect service time.  Wanted a jolt.  Got one.  Stoked he's been on my bench for 2 years in my AL only Dynasty league.

The mound not in the middle of the diamond feels even more blasphemous than seven inning games or a runner on second to start extras.

The mound is 66’ 9” from second base.

Have you heard the story of the time the Oakland A’s had a $1 mm discrepancy in their accounting records, and eventually traced it to a $1 mm check that Rickey Henderson had never cashed?    Turns out that he had framed the check and hung it on the wall.     I guess cash flow was not a concern for him!

I love Rickey Stories.  My buddy (writer @ WaPo from San Fran) tells a story he heard from his mom who worked at Pac Bell.   Apparently Rickey had overpaid his phone bill one month and his invoice showed an credit in ().  He thought he owed more and continued to pay double bill for a few months until they finally called him and told him to stop paying his phone bill for a while.

That’s what I was thinking as well, soccer is easy. At least soccer looks easy. You just have to have unbelievable stamina. I’m pretty sure there’s more to it than that, but it’s hard to see. On the other hand, Money sure does stimulate interest.

US soccer is terrible because the best athletes play basketball and football.  If Lebron James  was a center back and (name a fast running back) was attacking forward we would never loose the World Cup.

Any player in USA who plays soccer and is good goes to Europe at a young age.  Thing is, those kids arent the elite American athletes.

The NBA is seeing more European participation, does the MLB have any scouts or investigators in Europe? Baseball is not very big over there, but if you can throw 95, run, have quick reflexes, And you’re 16, I bet major-league baseball would be happy to take a look at you.

I played baseball in Europe.  You don’t see 95.  You don’t often see 90.  The best players on euro squads are the 3 international slots they allow which are typically taken by Dominicans, Cubans, and Venezuelans.

This actually might be the biggest black eye baseball has had since the Black Sox scandal.    It’s really tarnished the game.

It’s the first time I can remember the national media talking about baseball in January.

Sitting 96-97?! If so, that would be amazing.  He usually sits 91-93, no?  Anyone else see the game on Friday?  Cuz if he can sit even 94-95, gotta think the ceiling is higher than a #3...

Every time I looked at the radar after a FB it said 96/97.  I don't remember seeing many 95's and don't think I saw any 94's, but let's be honest I probably looked over at the radar reading 15-20  pitches or so.    My guess is gun was a little hot, but man did he make the glove explode.  We watched the first two innings behind visiting dugout, the kids came back after striking out shaking their heads and laughing.  We walked out to the deck that goes behind the fence at shorebirds stadium and the sound the glove was making on FBs was unreal.  I was most impressed by his curveball, it was missing bats by wide margin.  I don't recall seeing many change-ups.   It was very impressive.  He is a big boy
